Digital X-rays offer a huge advantage in early detection and preventive services. Advanced image manipulation and analysis, for example, allows your doctor to detect early stages of gum disease through recognition of bone level changes, or by evaluating the results against a previous treatment.

An intraoral camera is an indispensable diagnostic and educational tool. The tiny video camera moves around inside of your mouth and generates a tooth by tooth video exam of your teeth. Using an intraoral camera allows patients to better understand their dental needs by seeing what the dentist sees and then having it explained.

Lasers are a non-surgical approach to arresting the progression of periodontal disease. Following scaling and root planing, a laser is used to significantly reduce the bacterial colonies and decontaminate the infected periodontal pocket. Lasers also remove the infected tissue lining the periodontal pocket. As the infected tissue is removed, microscopic blood clots form and your body's natural healing response takes over. As you heal, the tissue reattaches to the bone and your gums return to a healthy infection-free state.

I had a terrible toothache and they scheduled me in the same day! Dr. Kaila did an inlay on me and the whole process went smooth and quick. :D

I rarely write reviews but I've been so happy with SD modern dentistry. Dr. Gail, all the front desk staff, the hygienists, all so friendly, helpful and accommodating. I especially like how clearly they provide cost break downs so you know exactly what you're getting into! And dr Gail answers all my questions so thoroughly.

A modern office with friendly staff! I had a very thorough dental cleaning with laser a few days ago by their amazing hygienist, Anna. I would highly recommend this office for your dental needs!!

This office is great. Just had a chipped tooth repaired, it came out after a few months. They didn't charge for the repair. Gail has great upbeat energy and Jason, the assistant, was super professional and welcoming. Will come back for a cleaning soon! Thanks

I've been with this office while they've gone through changes of staff and through a few different dentists as well. And I stuck through billing issues in the past that have costed me hundreds. Its been up and down to say the least. But I stayed, and saw an improvement with some issues. At this moment, my biggest concern is their seeming switch to using an answering service and you are no longer able to speak directly with staff. The "support" answering service is absolutely awful and have ZERO customer service. They are snippy, rude, and insist on getting personal information (full name, full birth date, address/zip code) just to pass along a message. I fully feel it is absolutely unnecessary to provide such sensitive details just to take a message- and to be ill-mannered and impolite about it in the process. Through every other issue I remained a patient/client, but honestly this might be the last straw for me and I'm already asking others for referrals to start seeing a new dentist.

The dentists at the practice are fantastic. BUT their admin people are absolutely incompetent and dishonest, especially when it comes to billing issues. I worked with them for over a year to resolve a billing snafu because they failed to properly bill my semiannual cleaning to my dental insurance and then repeated the same error multiple times after I worked with my insurance to streamline the process for them. Eventually, despite promising that their accountant would write off the amount because of their errors, they sent the amount to a collection agency after months of silence and without reaching out to me. Even when I contested the amount and explained the entire backstory, and the new admin admitted to the mistake on the phone with me and informed me that the old admin person (Christina) had been forced out months previously, they still fought me with collections. After the back and forth, I gave up and paid even though they messed up. Working people do not have time to go through this onerous contest process with collections, and this office knows it. The entire experience was horrible and unnecessary. The great dentists here do not make up for this admin fiasco. Maybe it is better under the new admin, but I would stay away to avoid a similar experience.

This location always knows how to clean my teeth just right. Gail is the best dentist and makes sure all her patients are taken care of. Annette is the best cleaner and also Kristina at the front desk is very nice. Highly recommend!

I received a dental implant at this location. I was scared and had a million questions but My dentist as well as the oral surgeon came in to talk to me and made me feel comfortable. The procedure went smoothly and I have no complaints. Excited for my new tooth lol.

She was very patient with me and spend a lot of time trying to calm me down. The staff was very helpful and always available to help. She is very professional, and she takes the time to explain what needs to be done and provides valuable advice. It's not easy to find a good dentist for your tooth problem. I highly recommend their dental services to anyone I know!

They've been my dentist for about 2 years and they've always been pretty good. In late March, I've been trying to call them to schedule an appointment but they've never called me back. Seriously, I've called like 20 times and left 5 messages but no one has call me back once. Totally weird.

This was my second time to Downtown SDMD. The first time was an excellent experience as well. This time Anna worked on my teeth . I can honestly say, she has the absolute best attention to detail I have ever experience with a cleaning. Besides that, she was very professional and nice to talk to. I waited maybe 3 minutes for my appointment, My whole experience at DSDMD was spot on.

Very poor business practices. They will try to upcharge you for unnecessary work that costs hundreds.

I will be taking me and my family's business elsewhere. I had an amazing experience with Dr. Al-Khouri, but have had an unacceptable experience with Dr. Spencer Nice. My daughter had a loose tooth that was giving us concern because she hadn't been brushing it well, as well as the tooth next to it. They were literally caked in tartar. We brought her in and he said it was completely normal and there was no need to clean anything. Fast forward a month, the tooth is still loose, and the tartar is even worse. We scheduled another appointment, and Dr. Nice again said everything was normal. He pulled the loose tooth out, but there was still what we thought was a tooth covered in tartar. I told him to clean her teeth, I'll pay extra, I don't care. His response, "I'll clean them really quick". What's the rush, man? My 6-year old daughter is your patient -- give her the time and respect she deserves. He "cleaned" a little bit, but there was still a huge buildup of tartar. We decided to see another dentist. Within 10 minutes of seeing the new dentist, he had removed the tartar. It turns out the tartar was not on a tooth, but rather just a tower of tartar, growing out from another tooth. He removed it with a few quick strokes of his instrument. Why Dr. Nice couldn't make this same evaluation and do this same quick fix is beyond me. Either he was too busy and didn't care enough to do this job properly, or he's a fraud. It's a bummer, because I liked the staff at Downtown Modern Dentistry, I had a great experience with Dr. Al-Khouri, as well as the hygienist who did a deep cleaning for me earlier this year. Dr. Al-Khouri took a leave of absence when COVID lockdown happened, so my guess is they were struggling to find a new dentist to take her place, and they settled on Dr. Nice. My experience with him and my daughter was completely unacceptable, and he's not someone I can trust for another second with my or my family's dental health.

They are charging me $220 for no reason when I already pay everything and they didn't fill my cavities properly, a week later I felt a hole. After 3 months they keep trying to charge me the same amount after talking with them 3 times. They told me they have more than 75 cases like mine. I find it amazing that they are trying to steal from so many people. I would not recommend this site even to my worst enemy. Worst of all, I have to keep dealing with them so they stop sending me letters to charge me the wrong money.

Its very easy to schedule appointments with there app. I would like to give a shout out to Dr. Nice, Tina, Anna and everyone there who has helped us. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to our next visit.

After not having been to the dentist since before the pandemic and having changed insurance, I gave this place a try for my first appointment and general cleaning. When I arrived at 8 am, I was greeted well and asked to wait until I was brought in. After around 10 minutes, I went to do the usual x-rays as a new patient. This is routine procedure but the machine wasn't working properly so it took longer than it should. After that was wrapped up, I was asked to wait for the doctor. A good 25-30 minutes passed before Doctor Nice came into the room. He asked if I had been to the dentist, and I replied that because of the pandemic, I had not been in over a year but was looking forward to getting my teeth cleaned today. After looking around my teeth, he mentioned I had sensitive gums and would recommend that I do a procedure that would clean my teeth but also take care of the sensitive gums I had. He said the front desk attendant would come into the room and go over the "benefits" with me before anything else could be done. Another 30 minutes passed by, and the front desk worker finally came into the room. She explained that the special procedure (Dr. Nice called it Cleaning Plus), would be X amount of dollars and that if I agreed to do it, then the hygenist could take care of it that morning. I didn't feel comfortable spending that amount of money yet, so I asked the front desk worker that I'd like to do the regular cleaning today since that was covered by my insurance. She looked confused, and left the room to speak to other staff. After a few minutes, she returned and said that the hygenist didn't have time to do the regular cleaning. At that point I was very confused and asked, "so the hygenist does have time do the cleaning plus procedure that is more expensive but not the regular cleaning?" The front desk worker was visibly uncomfortable and said yes. I told her that didn't make any sense. She excused herself again and a separate worker came in, explaining that Dr. Nice refused to do the regular cleaning for me and that he would only allow the cleaning plus one that was hundreds of dollars more. This got me very upset. One - I was told that the hygenist had time to do the expensive procedure but not the regular one. Two - Dr. Nice refused to do the regular cleaning and would only allow me to have the cleaning plus one unless I paid more money. This last point is especially troubling because it is highly inequitable. They are basically refusing service to people that can't afford what Dr. Nice "recommends." Do not go here. Save your time and go elsewhere.

No matter which dentist office I look at, the reviews are terrible... Agree with the negative reviews. Agree with Dr. Al-Khouri (who is no longer there) being fantastic. I get my teeth professionally cleaned 4x/year, one of the times includes x-rays and Doctor check-up. As of the date of writing this, I do not feel confident that I will receive fantastic service at my next appointment. But I have enough faith in the new Office Manager, Christina, to book another teeth cleaning appointment for 11/24. 2021 Staff turnover was detrimental. I have been 3x's so far this year 2/24, 5/24 and 8/31: ever-changing Dentists (different one each time I've been), 2/24 plan renewal was charged but never activated, 2/24 nervous Dentist w his first patient real patient ever, 5/24 completely green (newbie) dental assistant, 5/24 & 8/31 ghetto up-selling of additional services such as blue laser light beam and Fluoride treatment while I am in the dental chair, 5/24 the Russian Hygienist told me that I have gum disease that will require an expensive and painful root canal, 8/31 fake charges for services not received, 8/31 highly incorrect billing, 8/31 gave 2 opportunities to correct the billing. 8/31 I came in under a dental plan that should've been activated 2/24 as I had been to the same location, for a routine teeth cleaning, Dr. Check up and 2 x-rays. Before, beginning the 8/31 services, I requested a procedure quote, which was way higher than usual. The first billing correction request: Asked the front desk girl to fix it while I was getting my teeth cleaned. When I was finished: I was charged for things that I did not accept such as fluoride for $25; I only had 2 bitewing x-rays but was 4 bite wing x-rays $90; another random x-ray $62; 4 photos of the 4 x-rays for $270; some other unknown image for $35; another dental plan renewal $104; oral hygiene instructions for $88, etc. 8/31 Should have been a $75-$100 procedure but was billed for $990. I was livid, and now running late to work. Second billing correction request: I asked the front desk girl to make the corrections and to email the correct bill. She did not make any corrections. 9/9 I received a $990 bill in the mail (refer to image). Enraged, I downloaded all of the appointments, CC statements and invoices. Armed and ready - I called the SD Modern Dentistry, asked to speak with management to take care of billing issues. Spoke with Christina, the new Office Manager. I bluntly shared my feedback and complaints. CHRISTINA HANDLED IT! Props to Christina because I was ready to leave SD Modern Dentistry. Surprisingly, I ended the phone call with a smile and updated my records. Realizing that I did not have another teeth cleaning on the books, I called back to set another appointment. Giving SD Modern Dentistry another chance. THANK YOU CHRISTINA FOR YOUR EXCELLENCE IN RECTIFYING THE SITUATION.

Worst dentist I've ever been to in my life. Don't be fooled by the new office/modern gadgets. The dentist is inexperienced and lacking skills. I had my mercury fillings removed here, and today I found out (via x-ray) that they left a lot of mercury still in my mouth. The fillings they did had to already be replaced as well. Stay away.
