A northwest Ohio native, Dr. Nathan Downey grew up in Whitehouse and attended Anthony Wayne High School. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at The Ohio State University,then completed a general practice residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he received a Master of Sciencein biomedical sciences.
Dr. Downey completed a fellowship at the University of Florida in orthodontics before graduating from The Ohio State University orthodontic residency program with his specialty certificate and Master of Sciencein oral biology.
During Dr. Downeys training, he was active in various orthodontic materials research projects thatresulted in scientific presentations at the International Association of Dental Research. Dr. Downeys passion to provide the best care for his patients is evident in the numerous continuing education courses he attends.
Dr. Downey is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Great Lakes Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association (ADA), the Ohio Dental Association, the Toledo Dental Society, and the Cleveland Society of Orthodontists. Heis also actively involved in the community and supports many programs and schools.Orthodontics gives Dr. Downey an opportunity to make a positive change in the lives of his patients, but it also enables him to be a strong member of his community.
When not engaged in his favorite activity (creating beautiful smiles), Dr. Downey enjoys spending time with his wifeJennifer andtheir daughters, doing family activities, downhill skiing, hiking, playing tennis, and traveling.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.
Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!
Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.

Dr Downey and his team are second to none. Very thorough, Dr Downey checks progress on his appointments at every visit and his team is competent and easy to work with! I will continue to refer all friends and family to Dr Downey!

Dr. Downey and his staff are some of the most wonderful people and medical professionals that you will ever meet. They are very optimistic and upbeat. They explain everything in great detail. My children LOVE going Downey Orthodontics! We absolutely recommend them to everyone.

Dr. Downey is by far the nicest, most compassionate, and truly skilled orthodontist around. He always put your needs first. OK..the staff...WOW...the staff is UNREAL...they are Fantastic. Such a friendly bunch of ladies , each and everyone of them is superb. From making an appointment... to getting your braces checked, checking retainers and night guards, ....you can not ask for a better place to go!! Two of my children and my husband have had braces here at Downey's!!

Amazing staff and doctor. Always friendly, professional, explain what they are doing and why. Dr Downey is very honest and gives different options of levels of correction desired. All work well with their young clientele, makes them feel comfortable and important. Couldn't imagine going anywhere else in the area for orthodontics... they are A+++++ Their results are fantastic too. Great smiles with all 4 of my children.
