Dr. Thompson believes in an interdisciplinary treatment model that coordinates dental care with other medical practitioners for total body health care for his patients. He employs advanced DNA bacterial testing methods and other leading-edge dental science to enable early risk assessment and personalized treatment planning.
In addition to his dental training, Dr. Thompson is pursuing a Fellowship in Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine. In this continuum, he has presented to physicians a program titled, Periodontal Disease and the Heart: A Collaborative Opportunity in their Fellowship module XVI-D titled, Metabolic Cardiovascular Medicine.
Dr. Thompson has published professionally in the June, 2010 publication of Dentistry Today an article titled, Salivary Testing for Periodontal Disease Diagnosis and Treatment and in the December, 2012 publication of Inside Dentistry an article titled, Verifiable Outcomes Using Salivary Diagnostics in Periodontal Medicine: Test and retest for clinical success. He has also authored an online course available in the U.S. and Australia titled, Personalized Periodontal Medicine: The Future is Here! Advancing the Health of Your Patients, Your Team and Your Practice!
In 2016 Dr. Thompson founded the Wellness Dentistry Network which is an internet based community of dentists with a keen awareness of how oral conditions affect whole body health. He also assists dentists and their teams with implementation strategies designed to put knowledge to work in their daily practices. Building a knowledge base of how to integrate oral health issues with medical health issues continues to evolve. Getting started, keeping current, and growing is the challenge in this exploding area. To confront this challenge is the mission of the Wellness Dentistry Network.
Among other topics, he coaches risk assessment treatment planning, digital photography, and systems to transform traditional hygiene services into value added experiences of personalized periodontal medicine.
Dr. Sharvil Shah grew up in the Ann Arbor area and attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate studies. After finishing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Shah went directly to dental school at the University of Louisville, one of the top ranked dental schools in the country.
While in dental school, Dr. Shah excelled academically while also contributing to the community. He won the prestigious Psi Omega Achievement Award and volunteered his time through many dental service organizations. He especially cherishes the mission trips he went on to Belize where he was able to help the local population there through providing free dental care.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Shah has continually increased his knowledge of complex dental procedures through conferences and continuing education seminars. Dr. Shah has extensive knowledge in root canal therapy, gum grafting and all forms of extractions. Dr. Shah is also very knowledgeable in restorative dentistry and Invisalign technology to straighten teeth.
One of his main areas of focus is replacing missing teeth with dental implants. He was trained at the prestigious American Academy of Implant Dentistry Maxicourse, learning from the pioneers in the field. He is one of the youngest graduates of the prestigious Kois Center, a prestigious post-graduate training program focused on excellence and predictability in restorative dentistry. He is on track to become a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. He is also an active member of the Michigan Dental Association.
Dr. Shah believes in developing a relationship with his patients and genuinely getting to know them and their families. He provides the best care to his patients in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Outside the office, Dr. Shah is an avid sports fan, especially University of Michigan sports. If hes not at a Michigan football or basketball game, he is most likely spending time with his family and his three dogs, Wilbur, Mowgli and Bagheera.
Dr. Chelsea Watkins grew up in Bloomfield Hills and is a long-time patient of Dr. Thompsons practice. Growing up in the practice, she developed a passion for dentistry at a young age and looked to Dr. Thompson as a mentor. Upon graduating from Lahser High School, she was accepted into an accelerated seven-year dental program at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Watkins also received the Quintessence Award for excellence in Restorative Dentistry.
Throughout her education, Dr. Watkins was constantly looking for ways to enrich her educational experience. She made contributions to university research projects on genetics and sterilization, and was inducted into the National Jesuit Honors Society, Alpha Sigma Nu. Her involvement in the American Student Dental Association and Delta Sigma Delta, in addition to her academic success, granted her scholarships from these organizations. She also volunteered for a Mission Trip for the past two years to Guatemala, where she provided free dental care to the underserved population of Chichicastenango.
Dr. Watkins has had the opportunity to work in diverse clinical environments throughout Michigan. Dr. Watkins is excited to be in Bloomfield Hills serving the community in which she grew up. Her goal is to develop exceptional relationships with her patients. She strives to make patients feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for. Dr. Watkins looks forward to working alongside Dr. Thompson, Dr. Shah, and the rest of the team at Integrative Oral Medicine.
We are excited to welcome new and established patients back into our practice! Our office has always utilized personal protective equipment (PPE) that has exceeded all the CDC guidelines, however, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we have instituted additional guidelines and protocols to ensure your safety.

Dr. Watkins filled two cavities yesterday w/o causing any discomfort or pain. I received professional and courteous service from both Dr. Watkins and her assistant during the entire procedure. Dr. Watkins uses top of the line equipment in her work (such as 'dental sandblasting) for simpler cavities. The dental hygienists at the office use ultrasound equipment in their dental cleaning processes.

I , once again went to Dr. Thompsons Dental practice to have my teeth cleaned! Alexis, the Hygienist, was very professional using I presume the latest technology! She used water cleaning and polishing that was much more comfortable than having picks under your gums. Both Alexis and Dr Thompson are friendly, welcoming and nice to be with. I can't say enough good about my visit!.

I have received personalized Care and great treatment at Integrative Oral Medicine. Dr. Thompson, has knowledge on many medical issues related to oral care and has helped me with several of those. I have been able to get in quickly during emergencies and there is good follow up with my needs.

I drive 4 hours from the tip of NE Michigan to see Dr. Thompson and his team. What I appreciate the most is Dr. Thompson's skilled expertise and experience and his understanding of the intricacies of how our entire wellbeing is connected to dental health. He never misses a chance to guide and educate. This directly translates into the quality of his staff, who are also highly trained and skilled. Combine that with everyone's genuinely warm and friendly caring, and I can honestly say Integrative Oral Medicine is one of the best places on earth to go for dental health. I am incredibly grateful that I get to be a patient here. A special shout out to Alexis, who did my cleaning yesterday and did a phenomenal job.

This was a regular visit for cleaning and exam. No X-Rays this visit, last time. Service and courtesy the whole time. Maria was excellent as ever, always nice to see Etta, Dr. Shah came by to say hello and had my first visit with Dr. Watkins. Superstars in the office and support. Had an appointment with Michelle for a semi-annual cleaning. She did a great job as always. Dr. Watkins came in and alerted me to a possible old filling issue, which could be repaired with a sealant treatment. Dr. Watkins and Misty took care of that in about 10 minutes and I was out the door. My family has been going to Integrated Oral Medicine for years- very gentle, professional and on time. Dr. Thompson and his associates are the best!

I've been going to this office since I was a child (I'm 65). Most recently I had a teeth cleaning and the hygienist, Michelle, was efficient and friendly. Due to Covid-19, there are strict precautions taken. They even minimize the number of patients in the office at one time -- you text them when you arrive, and they text back when they are ready for you to come in. Exactly on time, too. I also appreciate very much how the DDS, Dr. Thompson, emphasizes the importance of good oral hygiene on overall health and is at the forefront of new and better technology/procedure. Incidentally, I recommended Dr. Thompson to my dad when when he moved back to the area. My dad was extremely pleased with the results of Dr. Thompson's care.

This place saved my life, literally, WOW- I can't say enough nice things about Dr. Thompson or this clinic, but more than that- you need to understand, what this dentist offers, is BAR NONE- it is a huge advance for dental care and health and wellness in general. As a Naturopath, I always recommended getting the tooth pulled instead of a root canal- for 20 years, until I was a root canal victim myself and after an infection ate away my cheekbone and required a bone graft- IOM was recommended to me. What he is doing is something I have hoped and prayed for-for many years and we are very blessed to have him here in Michigan. I am going to be doing a 3rd edition of my first book and adding a chapter on dental health and the wonderous work that Dr. Thompson is doing for humanity. Cheers Dr. T.

I continue to be impressed with the high level of dedication, professionalism, skill, and state-of-the-art technology of the doctors and staff of this practice. I had my routine dental cleaning yesterday and my hygenist, Kayla, noticed a problem. Kayla informed Dr. Watkins, and after diagnosing the problem, Dr. Watkins said she could fix the problem immediately, or if I preferred I could come in at a future time. I said immediately. Dr. Watkins repaired the issue swiftly and competently. I tease Dr. Watkins about her youthful appearance and being the "new kid on the block," but make no mistake: Dr. Watkins is continuing Dr. Doug Thompson's and this practice's tradition of excellence.
