Dr. John Dougherty joined his father's side at Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental in the summer of 1972 after graduating from Oregon Dental School (now OHSU). Together William and John took the dental practice to new heights, including relocating to Dougherty Laybourn Menashe Dental's current location at 1809 NW Davis St in the late 1970s. The father and son team practiced side by side until Dr. William Dougherty's eventual retirement in the early 1990s.

Scott Dougherty, DMD is a Portland native and a graduate of Jesuit High School, located in Portland. He earned undergraduate degrees in combined science and finance at Santa Clara University while competing in baseball and basketball for the Broncos. 'Dr. Scott,' as he is called in the office, completed his graduate degree at OHSU School of Dentistry.
Dr. Scott is a third generation dentist, following in the footsteps of his father, John and grandfather, William. Outside of the office, Scott enjoys hiking, playing basketball, and supporting both the Portland Timbers and Thorns, local soccer teams.

I wanted to make sure I write this before my head hit the pillow. My experience with the Team at DLM was confident, constructive, compassionate and personally gratifying. I had a referral into the practice. Never been before. I have sat in many a legacy DMD chair and nothing compared to the unconditional support, treatment and instruction I received today. The efficiency of the clinics operation from staff to the absolute latest equipment allowed me to quickly gather data, discuss, assess and make a plan for the three needs we discovered. Discovered in the office, because it was all one pain. Excruciating pain last week to a motivated and a forward trajectory this morning. From Brittany upon entrance, to Taylor my hygienist. Dr. Scott with the lead and Laura with my plan in her hand on the way out the door. DLM is not just a local family dentists office. It is generational knowledge and skillsets honed into memory and forged with the future. Toothache? Want a new smile? Chronic bad breath? What do you want to do with your oral situation? Sara the hygienist was amazing!!! So good at explaining everything so I could understand. I had no idea I had been doing things wrong my whole life. :) Dr Dourgherty also explained everything so I could understand everything as well!! Such a great team!! I walked away with a better way to take care of my teeth knowing I have Dr Dougherty on my side helping me for the rest of my life!! Very happy to have found him!!!

All good as usual. Nice place, quality work and excellent staff. Doctor Andrew is a first rate dentist and Sarah is a great hygienist with a gentle touch. I have been a patient at Dougherty Dental for over 30 years with Dr. John and Joanie at the start. Through business transition and expansion, now seeing Andrew Laybourn, Rikki and most recently Sarah, all have been wonderful to work with.
