Dr. Derek C. Barnes earned his undergraduate degree in biology from The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. He then entered The Medical University of South Carolina, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, placing a focus on cosmetic and family dentistry. He served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills school of dentistry and a member of several professional dental associations and societies, including: The Charlotte Dental Society, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, Old North State Dental Society, AJ Williams Study Club N.C. Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club. Dr. Barnes was also honored as a fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologist. In striving for excellence in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, he is a strong advocate of continuing education. He has completed many hours of advanced cosmetic, implant, and restorative courses to stay abreast with the modern innovations of todays dentistry which he employs in his private practice. He has devoted several years to surgical dental implant placement education at the Triangle Dental Implant Institute and the Alabama Implant residency program. He completed a comprehensive Implant Residency Program. The residency program focused on sound implant and surgical practices.

Family and family time is very precious to Dr. Barnes. He is happily married to his lovely wife Natasha Barnes. Dr. Barnes has two beautiful young men, Derek II and Jordan. He is an avid fisherman and loves to charter boats to sport fish in the Gulf Stream. Dr. Barnes is also a private Pilot and flies airplanes as a hobby.

Dr. Barnes and his dental team enjoy observing the patients reaction when they discover their new beautiful smiles using veneers, tooth-colored fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants. He has also developed a reputation of performing all dental procedures as painlessly as possible. His office offers you a comfortable, relaxing, family environment that gives unhurried personal care and attention. He is an advocate of keeping his patients comfortable throughout their procedures. Natasha has been a part of our dental team since 2008. She attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Natasha received her degree in business with a minor in marketing. She previously worked for Wells Fargo for 14 years. Natasha treats every patient like family and delivers the BEST customer service possible while educating the patients on how to maximize their insurance benefits. Natasha enjoys working with our patients to achieve their dental goals. Seeing their smiling faces when they leave our office warms her heart. In her spare time, Natasha loves spending time with her husband, Dr. Derek C. Barnes, and with her sons, Derek II and Jordan.

As an educator, Misty enthusiastically teaches patients how to prevent dental disease by use of proper home care techniques. She also promotes sound nutrition, prevention of periodontal disease, and cosmetic dentistry. Mistys goal is to maintain dental health for each patient with total patient involvement and personalization of treatment.

Misty is proud to be a part of this dental team because Dr. Derek C. Barnes takes the time to make every dental restoration just right and has a genuine desire to give each patient and situation his best effort. As a result, we all give our best and enjoy contributing to our patients dental health.

Weslie has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island. She and her husband relocated here to North Carolina from Connecticut in 2016, where the rest of her family still resides. She has enjoyed getting to know the Charlotte area and eating out at all the new restaurants.

Weslie appreciates working with people and making them feel comfortable while helping them maintain optimal dental health. She likes working with a great team that is always willing to help when needed, and with doctors that take time with every patient to ensure they have a positive experience.

Morgan joined our team shortly after she receieved her dental assisting certification from Lake Norman Dental Assisting school in March 2017. As a dental assistant, Morgan helps our practice run smoothly by working well with her co-workers and keeping a good attitude. She loves being part of a team that works together and is always willing to help each other out, which brings a great atmosphere that Morgan loves to work in!

Morgan has 2 brothers, and she loves spending as much time as possible with her family, especially her 2 nieces. In her free time, she also loves being outdoors, particularly at the lake. She also enjoys spending time with her 2 dogs, Myan and Paisley.

Monique has been a certified dental assistant with the Dental Assisting National Board since 2019, and she loves how passionate and organized everyone at Derek C. Barnes, DMD is. Her warm personality brings joy and comfort to even our most anxious patients!

Lilly graduated salutatorian from Central Piedmont Education Center with her dental assisting degree and awards for professionalism. She is always here to lend a helping hand and share the responsibilities of getting work done. She loves bringing better and brighter smiles to our patients, raising their confidence and improving their oral health! Lilly helps us keep the practice running smoothly and efficiently.

Lillys parents immigrated from Vietnam in 1990 to give a better life to her family, which includes one older brother and two younger sisters. When shes not at work, Lilly loves to play pool! That is how she met her loving boyfriend, Jacob. She also loves spending time with family and friends.

Amber attended Central Piedmont Community College for her Associates Degree in business management with a focus in marketing. At the office, she works with patients and insurance companies to resolve insurance challenges effectively and efficiently. She loves working with Dr. Barnes and our amazing team, helping patients get the best dental care and experience they can.

Amber has been married to her husband, Keith, since 2015. She is the eldest of four children and a dog mom to her senior Husky. Amber considers herself a bit of a cinephile she loves watching movies and TV shows, as well as trying new foods, barbequing and baking from scratch.
