Dr. Hermansen began his higher education by gaining a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences atCalifornia Lutheran College(now University). He then continued towards his doctorate by graduating from theUniversity of California San Francisco(UCSF) in 1973. He has since become a member of the ADA and received the following certifications and awards:

Since 1976, Dr. Hermansen has been providing qualitydental care in Redwood City, California. Although he does believe in the value of his work, he also seeks to continually improve his skill set to provide the best service possible for his patients. Dr. Hermansen prioritizes his continuing education as he attends classes (usually monthly) on a variety of subjects. This is well above the mandatory amount, thus enabling Dr. Hermansen to provide advanced care to his patients.

Dr. Hermansen has volunteered in a number of ways over the years. This includes participating in school screenings, health fairs and career day presentations; providing free dental care through local and statewide organized programs; serving as a dental society board member and committee chair; serving as a dental alumni association board member and past president; participating in CDA Cares; and serving for six years on the CDA Council on Peer Review.

His goal as a dentist is to help patients understand their own oral health and allow them to be their own best advocate in maintaining their oral health. This way, he can help their teeth last a lifetime.

Dr. Hermansen has been married since 1975 to Holly, who is a registered dental hygienist. They have two daughters and two sons, and they enjoy the company of their six grandchildren. His hobbies outside of the office include gardening and reading.

Dr. Derrell Washington is originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from Purdue University. In 2015, he moved his wife and two kids to San Francisco, California, to attend dental school. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry in 2019.

Dr. Washington has devoted his professional career to all aspects of dentistry, with a special interest in dental implants. He continues to advance his dental training by keeping up with the latest technology and attending yearly continuing educational courses.

I am committed to educating and providing quality comprehensive dental care to each patient with compassion. I understand the anxieties that may arise when it comes to visiting the dentist. Therefore, my goal is to help make each patients dental experience as comfortable as possible.

Michele has been an integral part of our practice for over 20 years. She attended the College of San Mateo and graduated from their dental assisting program in 2001. While Michele worked to receive her dental assisting degree, she actually began working in dentistry much earlier in life. When she was in high school and age 16, she began a program called Dental Careers. While her classmates worked at the mall on holiday break, she was working in a dental office. This truly gave her a head start in life, and she is happy to work in a well-rounded and family-oriented dental office. Her years of knowledge and experience help our office to run efficiently, as does the great communication of our team. She always has fun but gets the job done.

Beatriz graduated from the dental program at College of San Mateo in 2020. Shortly after graduating, she was given the opportunity to work alongside one of her instructors and the great team at Dr. Hermansens office, and she has never regretted her decision to do so. Beatriz takes every opportunity to keep learning and to expand her skills.

We have enjoyed having Jacqueline, or Jackie, on our team for over five years. She received her bachelors degree in dental hygiene from the University of Hawaii. She loves being a part of a practice with such friendly staff and great patients.

When she is not working, Jackie loves to hike and explore different national parks. She especially enjoys being in the woods and admiring the majestic creation. She also has a wonderful husband and two boys, who are both in college.

For over a decade, Jan has contributed greatly to the well-being of our patients. She enjoys the many people involved in our practice, from the office partners to the staff. Outside of the office, she enjoys skiing, tennis, gardening, cooking and yoga.

Holly has been with our practice since its inception in 1976. She graduated from the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry with a B.S. in dental hygiene in 1971. Her favorite aspect of her job is talking with patients about their families, some of whom she has known for many years.

She has two daughters and two sons, and she enjoys the company of her six grandchildren. In fact, taking care of her grandchildren is one of her favorite hobbies. Growing up in San Francisco, Holly did not know how comfortable and temperate the climate in Redwood City was. She and her husband now live just a mile from the office. Holly has recently retired from her position as our registered dental hygienist.
