Even at a young age, Dr. Marks had diverse interests. Beyond sports and music, he enjoyed drawing and art. He was good at science and solving problems. In addition, he loved helping others. Encouragement from his own, childhood dentist and a job during his undergraduate years in the lab of the local hospital opened Dr. Marks eyes to the potential of a healthcare career.

While pursuing a dual major in biology and chemistry in college, Dr. Marks realized dentistry was the best fit for him. It required extensive scientific knowledge yet provided the opportunity to be creative and to work with his hands. Most importantly, it made it possible for him to interact with his patients and to have a direct impact on the quality of their lives.

After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Marks decided to stay at Pitt and enrolled in their School of Dental Medicine. He welcomed the opportunity to continue learning, and he knew immediately he had made the right choice. The lab work fueled his artistic side while the clinical studies fed his love of science. And, there were plenty of opportunities to work with patients who truly needed help with their smiles.

Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Marks opened his own dental office in the State College area. In the early 1990s, he moved to his current location on University Drive and has enjoyed the culture and energy that comes with being close to the Penn State campus.

During his career, Dr. Marks has learned from and worked with some of the finest dentists in the world. Two of these mentors include Dr. Ron Nevins and Dr. Frank Spear. In turn, Dr. Marks has embraced his responsibility to share his knowledge with others. He is an active member of many dental associations and organizations, and he takes a proactive role in mentoring younger dentists and has been involved with the Penn State Pre-Dental Club, guiding young men and women who are contemplating dentistry as a career.

Along with these interests, Dr. Marks served as an official for various, local swim leagues, a softball coach and he continues to pursue his passions for gardening, photography and architectural design. In many ways, his personal interests mirror his professional career.

Really enjoyed my first time meeting Dr. Marks. He took his time explaining the possible causes of my TMJ. Drove an hour and a half just to see him and he did not disappoint. He is extremely knowledgeable in what he does, more so than any dentist I've ever been to IMO. I'm excited to see the results of what he's recommended for me! :) Also they hygienists and front desk staff are very professional and kind people.

While I haven't been to see Dr.Marks myself YET ( but will be soon), his office staff has been able to help our family out in several situations where we needed dental attention quickly. I so appreciate the helpful nature of the office staff~ They are friendly, understanding, and nothing seems to be a problem for them. Other dental offices should look upon this office as a great example on how to treat patients!

I was nervous going to Dr. Marks because of severe bruxism and worn teeth, I was told by a dentist two years ago I would have to have all my lower teeth removed and need to have dentures. That was my expectation going in and to my relief I would learn that isn't the case. Dr. Marks offers procedures that my regular dentist didn't take part in and as a result, my worst fear didn't come through and I will be able to have a beautiful smile in the future with my own teeth. The visit couldn't have gone any better and I look forward to working with their caring staff in the future.

I just left my first ever appointment at Dr. Marks and have absolutely nothing but good things to say. Morgan was as professional, personable and knowledgeable as can be. It was almost like I wasn't actually at the dentist. She's the absolute best! Dr. Marks has a fantastic 'chairside' manner as well and it was apparent that he wanted to make sure I understood everything and didn't leave with any questions. I would 100% refer Dr. Marks dentistry to anyone and everyone - and make sure to ask for Morgan!

This is my honest review of Donald Marks Family Dentistry as someone who is terrified of any and all dental work. I reached out as a new patient initially as I had just found a steady job in the State College area after graduation and I was having some inflammation of my gum and jaw from my wisdom teeth. The front office was amazing in gathering my information and helping me schedule as soon as possible. I am truly thankful for their effort in fitting me into their busy schedule. Upon arrival, the office had a very calming presence and I was greeted right away. The nurse/hygienist/doctor (I was still a bit nervous so I am so sorry that I forgot your name/title) where she went over my forms, allergies, and concerns. Since my jaw was swollen, it was hard for me to open my mouth so the doctor was nice enough to come in to personally examine me instead of forcing the xray into my mouth where it would have caused a lot of discomfort, which I was highly thankful for. As someone who is not familiar with dental terms and what might cause pain, the doctor was very patient with my questions and explained everything to me clearly and told me what he was doing and how he was going to do it. Both the doctor and hygienist truly went above and beyond what they had to do in talking to me about the process and helping me schedule an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth removal. They were also extremely kind and patient in explaining what I could do in the main time to keep the area clean and as comfortable as possible. This was the best dental experience that I have had ever and I look forward to returning for my next cleaning appointment. Big shoutout to this amazing office for helping me out. Thank you!

After years of miserable experiences with dentists who surprised me with extra costs, didn't explain services well, or were rude and abrupt, this experience felt so good! The staff smiled, took their time explaining things, discussed costs and insurance coverage before proceeding, were gentle and pleasant as they worked, and worked well together as a team. The waiting area is filled with the soothing scent of an aromatherapy candle, and everything takes place in the exam room - no walking here and there for x-rays and photos - so it was a very easy, relaxed experience from the moment I arrived.

First time coming here and the staff was great. Dentist was timely, cleaning was easy and even with out of network insurance, I was surprised by the affordable cost. If you're concerned about covid, or any health issues the dentist is happy to sit and chat with you. I've never had a dentist sit with me for more than a few minutes to check my teeth

Dr. Marks treated me today with great results in just a few hours of notice although his schedule was completely full. All my visits with him for dental care and sleep apnea problems over the years have been just great. I am grateful for his expert knowledge and excellent practice and always caring accommodations. He is always at the forefront of learning new techniques and bringing in new appliances for providing the best service possible to his patients.

NOTE: I am not a current patient of theirs, as I only work temporarily in State College. My crown fell out and I was trying to speak with someone when they opened, which was at 8am. I called a few times and figured the phones weren't letting calls through yet, but when I got ahold of someone at 8:10am (10 mins after they open) she basically said "I don't have time to talk to you right now" after I explained my situation because they were in their morning meeting. I don't remember the entire call, but the gist was I don't have time, we probably can't get you in, call other places, we'll get back to you when we can. All while being short, flustered, and in my mind rude as I wasn't an existing patient. UPDATE: I received a call today from the woman I spoke with as my review enticed her to "do better". She started apologetic, but then said she listened to the call recording and didn't think she was rude. The call evolved into excuse making and basically felt like arguing with me over what happened. I realized the call wasn't to apologize, but only in hopes to save face and for me to remove my review. Updated to 3 stars for the effort, I guess.

This was my first experience with this dentist as I recently moved to the area and it couldn't have gone better. I went in for a checkup due to pressure in my jaw and because I was overdue for a cleaning. My hygienist was Morgan and I would recommend her to anyone she did a fantastic job all around, most pleasant cleaning experience I have ever had. Dr Marks quickly noted the pressure I was feeling was impacted wisdom teeth and noted a couple of issues that I might want to address in future appointments. Roxy the receptionist was juggling several issues at once and still made me a referral to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth verifying that they would accept my insurance and got me out in no time. Awesome team all around.

Just had my first cleaning in longer than I'm willing to admit and chose Dr. Marks and staff. Couldn't be more pleased with my decision. From the receptionist, to the hygienist, to Dr. Marks himself - all went above and beyond. I will be going in every 6mo.

They were extremely careful, safe, and made me feel extremely comfortable going in and out of the office during the visit. Only one person enters at a time, they clean the room in between each person, they have you rinse with a 1% H2O2 rinse, and do a solid travel/health questionnaire before you arrive. Thank you for such a great job!
