I graduated from the Stony Brook University, School of Dental Medicine. I attended the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston for two years of advanced training in general and hospital-based dentistry and research, where I also served as Chief Dental Resident. I completed my formal training in a three-year orthodontic residency at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, during which I also obtained a Master of Medical Sciences degree.

At Harvard, I pioneered clinical research in dentofacial aesthetics and computer animated imaging. This research is the foundation for a wide range of studies that continue at Harvard, University of Chicago, and other universities in aesthetics and treatment goals guiding orthodontic care.

Welcome to dk Orthodontics, where we believe in treating each person in our care as a member of our family: with respect, kindness, and compassion. Our practice is committed to delivering personalized care, based on each patients unique needs, creating amazing, healthy smiles as unique as the individual.

Dr. Denise Kitay and each member of our teamknow that by developing individualized treatment plans, and creating patient-specific approaches to each person, we can ensure that each patient receives a beautiful smile in a timely manner.

We have created an office environment that is warm and relaxing, where patients of all ages, and their family members, feel welcomed and comfortable. We have an open door policy for our treatment areas, inviting parents to sit and watch what were doing, or come back and ask questions. Younger siblings are also invited in the care space, and seeing whats going on creates excitement in them, and less worry about what will happen when its their turn for orthodontics.

Were patient-focused in all we do, and everyone on our team loves our work. Creating smiles every day, smiles that will last for a lifetime, while increasing a persons self-esteem and the confidence with which they move through the world, is amazingly rewarding. Throughout the treatment process, we develop strong friendships with our patients, building relationships based on communication, laughter, and trust.

When youre visiting us, youll see an abundance of smiles, from our patients and staff, alike. And youll hear a lot of laughter, too. Were always swapping jokes, sharing stories of adventures, and just enjoying our time together. This is a positive, happy environment and patients tell us theyre sad when they complete treatment and realize they wont be seeing us regularly anymore.

Before starting orthodontic treatment, its essential you understand whats involved in the treatment process, your options in getting to the goal of a healthy, incredible smile, and that you find a practice where you know youll receive exceptional, professional, experienced care from people you trust and genuinely like.

For most people, achieving a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for receiving orthodontic care. If you're self-conscious about your smile, correcting your concerns with braces will greatly improve the way you look and feel.

When your treatment is complete, you will have the smile you've always dreamed of and the confidence to show it off! We also want you to feel comfortable and confident throughout your entire orthodontic experience, and our practice is dedicated to making sure that you receive the quality care you deserve.

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plastic. They may be removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper position.

Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can now choose clear or metal brackets and, in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces!

Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is. A big factor in a successful treatment is you! The more involved and diligent you are, the more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive or early treatment can also help provide a quicker treatment time.

Dr. Kitay has been my family orthodontist since 2001. She's very amicable and transparent. As a child and now a science professional, I could sense she really knew her practice and is very patient with explaining things. She made me feel like family. My teeth were very difficult to straighten and she was transparent and clear about each step with my family and I. She always is preventative and surgical with her approach. I have a great smile now! Even when I lost my retainer she was able to replace it in great turn around time. My family loves her.

Dr. Kitay has been working with me for the last 4 months utilizing, OrthoFX, a type of clear aligners. Dr. Kitay and her staff are very professional, courteous, and efficient. I'm never left waiting to be seen and they are very considerate of the my time. I would recommend Dr. Kitay to my own friends and family.

Several years ago I opted to begin treatment with Dr. Kitay because she told me that she could straighten my teeth by only treating just the bottom row of my teeth. (I had braces previously and my top row of teeth were still relatively straight.) Since this approach would save me about 50% off treatment costs compared to other orthodontists (as the other ones told me they needed to treat the top and bottom rows) I decided to go with her. However, to my dismay, halfway through my treatment Dr. Kitay began saying that she wouldn't be able to achieve ideal results unless I had commissioned a treatment for both top AND bottom rows of my teeth - contradicting what she had stated when I initially began treatment with her. Then when my braces treatment period ended Dr. Kitay placed a "permanent" retainer on my lower front teeth. That retainer ended up breaking several times over requiring me to revisit her office time and time again to have it fixed, each time having to pay her additional money for the office visit and repairs, and each time causing my teeth to become more and more crooked again. This happened so often that Dr. Kitay eventually told me that any subsequent instances of breakage would be repaired free of charge, however, some time later when the retainer broke yet again she reneged on her statement and said I WOULD have to pay to come in for my next visit after all. So instead of having my retainer repaired, I decided to have it removed altogether and to once again seek orthodontic treatment (for the third time).
