Although District Dental Center was founded in 2016, the practice has been around for over 40 years. Prior to District Dental Center, the practice was called Washingtons Choice Dental Care. We have been located in the Downtown/Dupont Circle neighborhood since inception, and have been in the current location for 4 years.
Dr. Schobel and Dr. Gialanella have worked together for over 5 years, previously at a practice in Arlington, VA. They decided to form District Dental Center about a year ago, and after much hard work and planning, opened the doors on July 1st, 2016. Both Dr. Gialanella and Dr. Schobel subscribe to the same philosophy that getting to know a patient is imperative to treating their oral health.
Matt Gialanella, DMD (or Dr G to his patients) was born and raised in Toms River, NJ. After graduating from Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, NC, he attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ where he received his DMD. He then completed a General Practice Residency at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill Hospital.
Dr. Gialanella has been practicing dentistry in the DC Metro area since 2010. He enjoys staying up to date on the most current dental technology through his hundreds of hours of continuing education courses. He is an active member of The Renaissance Study Club in Washington, D.C. as well as a member of the Chevy Chase branch of the world famous Frank Spear Study Club.
Dr. Gialanella enjoys being able to create a patients ideal smile through cosmetic bonding, porcelain veneers and crowns, and Invisalign. His obsessive attention to detail and gentle bedside manner put patients at ease while getting the best results possible.
Dr. G resides in American University Park, in Washington D.C. with his wife Anne, and their two children. He enjoys begin outdoors as much as possible, running and exercising. He is an avid NY Giants fan despite living in Redskins territory.
Dr. Schobel grew up in Massachusetts and attended the University of Rochester in New York. While there, he earned his degree in Biology. After graduating he worked in oral microbiology research for two years before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.
Then, he completed an advanced training residency in General Dentistry at Abington Memorial Hospital. It was there that he expanded his knowledge and skill in all fields of general dentistry including cosmetic cases, crowns, bridges, Invisalign, and implant restorations. Dr. Schobel loves his work and really enjoys building relationships with his patients. He believes that communication and comfort are essential, and really treats all his patients like family.

Beyond Amazing!!! Dr. Schobel, Dr. Gialanella and their team are absolutely great. I have been working on my teeth with Dr. Schobel for about a year now and he was super patient as we went through my Invisalign journey. He is very detail and cared about my priorities. I tend to be a perfectionist so it took a bit longer than we initially expected, but he heard my very detailed concerns and always took action towards addressing them. My mom sees Dr. Gialanella. She has a complicated history of gingivitis that has cause other issues but she can't be in better hands. She has maintain her oral health and Dr. Gialanella referred her to other amazing specialists that helped taking care of the additional issues. I can go on and on about how great they are as professionals and humans. But, I want to dedicate a few lines to their staff who are equally awesome! From the front desk to their hygienists team you will be treated with so much kindness and care. They always have a positive attitude and a snail won't heir face. I moved from Los Angeles to DC about two years ago and I have to say that this is THE BEST dental office I've even been to.

I can't say enough great things about District Dental Center and Dr. Schobel. I've been going there for almost four years and the staff is always friendly and the appointments always start on time. Dr. Schobel always provides clear and helpful guidance.

Excellent practice. Dr. Gialanella is very knowledgeable, considerate, and up to date on the latest treatments. He's very detailed and educates you regarding every proposed treatment. The support staff also takes great care of you!

My experience at District Dental was outstanding from start to finish. I chose them because Dr Schobel is covered by my insurance and had great reviews on US News and Google. Bianca who works at the front desk is so cheerful, sweet, patient, and helpful! Vanessa who started with my x-rays was also super kind and sweet, working with me and distracting me when I had trouble with the x-rays. Finally, Dr Schobel was gentle, kind, and so courteous. He took the time to show and explain x-rays and pictures, answer my questions, and even start some of the cleaning process because he unexpectedly had some extra time open in his schedule. My far the best experience I've ever had with a dentist!

Hands down best dentist I've been to. I got new insurance and was going to switch dentists and after calling a few places decided no other dentist was even as close to as good as district dental. Incredibly kind staff, very clean, when my retainers broke they made new ones at no cost, I get anxious at the dentist and they talk me through and show photos of everything they are doing. I don't write reviews but feel really strongly about district dental center!
