A large part of my commitment to my patients and my profession is continuing dental education. I remain current on the newest techniques and technologies, through seminars, lectures, and conferences. By learning from the top leaders in my profession and researchers in oral healthcare, I ensure my patients receive the bestcare.

I am very involved with my children and familyas well as manycommunity based organizations.I was a charter member of the Dunellen Education Foundation,I give annual seminars at the Cancer Wellness Center in Pluckemin, N.J. I have been involved in fundraising forthe Summit Speech School, a wonderful school for profoundly deaf children.Im also active in our local schools throughout the year, but especially during Dental Health Month.

I grew up in Dunellen, literally steps from the door of the practice. In fact, our office is in the home where my once grandparents lived! Werenovated the buildingin 1992 when I returned home from Boston to open my practice. It serves as alovely, bright, and welcoming space for our patients.

My husband and I met in dental school and married in 1995. I have two wonderful daughters who amaze me every day with their kindness and positive spirits. Our family enjoys ourBorzoi thats a Russian Wolf Hound who is a love. I have an incredible family who mean the world to me.

We all love the beach, so when were not busy at the office, thats where youll find us. We enjoy playingtennis and kayaking in the bay. My girls have recently taken up running and are miles ahead of me already, in a sport Ive always enjoyed!

Like Dr. Sheenan, Dr. Akerman (Dr. P) is a graduate of Tufts University in Boston, where they met. He excelled in many areas of dentistry in school but particularly enjoys restorative dentistry, full and partial dentures, and implant restorations. He, like Dr. Sheenan, focuses on the needs and wants of the patient and he works hard to deliver the best and most affordable care available.

I was born and raised in Dunellen and raised my three children here, as well. When Im not in the office, I enjoy spending time at the Jersey shore. I also like traveling, cooking for family and friends, and losing myself in a good book.
