I love being a pediatric dentist. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful children, and the friendships that Ive built with my patients and their families are one in a million. It has always been my focus to make each patient feel at home during treatment, and I work hard to give my patients the attention they deserve.
My education in dentistry has provided me with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience. Additionally, by regularly participating in continuing education, I am able to stay current on the latest technology and dental treatments. Doctor Schow attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah after which he went on to graduate from Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska. Following dental school, he worked in the Phoenix area for three years in a dental office where he treated many young patients. He enjoyed working with children so much that he decided to go back to school and specialize in Pediatric Dentistry. He left Arizona for Anchorage, Alaska where he completed a two year pediatric dental residency.
During Dr. Schows hospital based residency in Anchorage, Alaska he gained more experience and became proficient in providing all aspects of dental care for children. He was selected chief resident by the faculty during his second year of training. Since then he has become a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, The American Dental Association and the Arizona Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Schow is also is a board certified Pediatric Dentist and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Schow and his wife Kerri have been married since 1997 and have four great kids. Dr. Schow and his family have enjoyed the fun experiences they have had living in different places. In addition to traveling, he also enjoys spending time with his family and sports.
Doctor James Johnson is a pediatric dental specialist. With his unique charm, he gets children excited about their dental care, helping them to develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Dr. 'J' (as his patients call him) attended Brigham Young University, then continued on to earn his doctorate from the prestigious University of Florida College of Dentistry. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Johnson underwent 2 years of additional training in pediatric dentistry, which included a hospital residency at the University of Florida. During this time, he learned how to deal with challenging children and performed many conscious sedation techniques for kids.
He has excelled in his specialty and is a member of many professional associations including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, The American Dental Association and the Arizona Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Johnson is a board certified Pediatric Dentsit and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

I was surprised how nice these people are from the front desk up to the dentist himself,I would definitely recommend these to all the parents around eagle river and also anchorage,they really took care of my sons need and payed attention with his struggle with toothache,and didn't waste time at all we got taken care off right away.thanks you so much,definitely best experience.Rafael loved it here.

I have nothing but good things to say about Discovery Dental! Every staff member is friendly and accommodating. They know how to work with kids of all ages and are incredibly patient. My oldest originally went to a "family dentistry" but unfortunately they did not know how to work with kids and it was a really bad experience for her. Discovery talked with her about her concerns and performed the same work, but correctly this time. Totally changed her feelings about going to the dentist! During our most recent visit, she had to get fillings between her back molars. She was terrified and cried a lot, but again the staff was very patient. They let me sit on the bed with her during the whole operation. Let me just say: the doctors and assistants here are the real deal! They pair quality with efficiency, and even though my daughter was on nitrous the whole time and didn't remember anything from the operation, the doctor spoke to her and kept her calm and happy. I have never been more happy to pay for a medical procedure, and for what I paid it was a steal! You will never get a better dental experience for your kiddos than Discovery Dental!

Been going here for almost 4 years and although the actual dental visits are great, I have continuously had issues with their billing department billing out correctly and sending out bills in a timely manner. I don't think we will be going back if the next visit has the same issues.

The staff at discovery dental was absolutely incredible! It was my sons first time at the dentist and I know we were both nervous. Nicole was super bubbly, patient and loving towards my son. Looking forward to going back!

We love Discovery Dental! They are so kid forward, it provides an excellent experience! The dental hygienists have been there since day one and make up the pleasantries. Doctors have come and gone but hoping Dr. Matt stays.

Our 2 and 4yo are patients here and always have good experiences. The staff is great, clinic is clean, and they are always on time. We are in and out within 25 mins. We would highly recommend them!

2022 Update: Kids are now 5 and 3 and we have been going to Discovery Dental for about 4 years and truly couldn't imagine going anywhere else. My kids are both pretty shy around people they don't know well and the staff at Discovery are consistent (sign of a great workplace) and so kind. They make my girls feel safe and welcome. My 3 year old had a few soft spots and I was really impressed with how they handled the fillings on a 3 year old, and Dr. Matt even sang to her while he worked on her teeth. The TV set up over the chair, the headphones so they can listen to a movie, the sunglasses to protect their eyes from the light..it's all top notch. Updating to add that this place gets better and better each time we go. My kids are now 3 and 15 months and loved their visit so much I had to drag them out of the building! We love Discovery Dental! The staff are super nice and the facility is great for kids! I love their waiting room and the toddler room is jungle themed! My daughter (2 years old) isn't a fan of being touched by anyone that she doesn't know and they are always so kind and patient with her. Wouldn't consider going anywhere else!

Can never recommend Discovery dental enough! We drive 40 mins from south anchorage because it is worth it. My daughter is 3 and has a hard time with dental/doctors offices. The staff and Dentist always take the time to make her feel comfortable I truly appreciate it.

This is by far the BEST pediatric dental office I have ever seen. The staff is absolutely amazing and always are exceptional when handelinf a difficult moment. My son who is autistic went in for a cavity and lets just say, I felt like I was stressing more about how my son was acting/responding then the Dr and assistant. SUPER CALM and knew how to work with him. Highly recommend!!!!

Best staff from front desk to dental team! My daughter is 2.5 and has been twice. She gets excited to get her teeth cleaned by the friendly assistant/hygienist and dentist. Most recent appt was super quick but thorough. We don't have any current issues we needed to fix or address regarding her teeth but they answered all my questions and were very thorough despite quick. They are conscious about getting consent from the kids before touching or using any instruments. They explain what they are doing so the kids can follow and also say no if they aren't ready to have their mouth touched. Great experience every time.
