Dr. Sheikh received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1992 and his Masters degree in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Minnesota in 1994. He practiced as an associate in different offices in Minnesota before relocating to San Diego. In 2000, he opened his own pediatric dental office in Carlsbad.
But it isnt like a medical career was entirely out of character for Dr. Sheikh. His dad is a retired pediatrician, and the good doctor says his fathers focus on his patients has influenced the way he practices pediatric dentistry in Carlsbad:
I have always aspired to the old school approach that the primary goal of being a Carlsbad pediatric dentist is providing care to kids. As a child, I remember my father answering the emergency calls at odd hours, and that dedication is second nature for me. We need to be there for the kids.

When away from the office, Dr. Sheikh enjoys spending time with his family in Encinitas. His weekends are filled with volleyball tournaments for his daughter and flag football for his son. He enjoys the outdoors; some of his hobbies include photography, hiking at Torrey Pines State Park, and fishing and camping with his children.
Dr. Stephan Yoon is a board-certified orthodontist in Carlsbad, CA, deeply committed to providing his patients with the best oral health treatment. Having completed his graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Dr. Yoon earned numerous scholarships for his valuable contributions in the academic field during his graduate studies.

The American Board of Orthodontics recently awarded Dr. Yoon the Orthodontic Board Certification to acknowledge his skills to impart the highest quality patient care, an achievement that only less than 30% of dentists have managed to attain.
You can find Dr.Yoon indulging in some snowboarding, hiking, or cycling during his leisure time. He loves traveling and likes to spend his winters on the slopes of Lake Tahoe. Besides, he firmly believes in giving back to society and has volunteered for numerous dental and orphanage mission trips in Honduras and Guatemala.

I have 4 kids with varying degrees of special needs, which means I need to be with them the entire appointment. Discovery does an amazing job of accommodating their needs and getting us in together so we can all be seen and I can support my kiddos and be aware of what's happening. Dr. Sheikh is excellent with my kids and they love going in for their cleanings. Highly recommend.

Year 2017 - Great experience! I love taking my 1 year old here. He has gone 3 times already because he grew most of teeth by the time he was 8 months old. Such a fun environment and friendly staff! Update. 9/2022. I now have 3 boys. That 1 year old will be 6 in a couple weeks and still amazing as ever!!! Boys (5, 4 and 2 yrs old) love going. (NOT the 2 yr old yet. But he will) the older one said "this is MY DENTIST" when we pulled into the parking lot. They get a coin for the prize machines at the end. And they all remember that. They have TVs on the roof with headphones for them to hear. They have themed rooms with elaborate murals and and an amazing waiting room for little people. I would never take a child anywhere else. They even have their own dental plan (my insurance covers it - but when they didn't, I definitely used it) I would give more stars if I could. He is the best and his team is even more amazing.

Dr. Sheikh is amazing! He has been our pediatric dentist for many years and we can not say enough good things about him and his staff! Dr. Wong (Orthodontist) is equally awesome!

We have been taking our son here for the past 3 years and every time we go everyone is so welcoming and kind. I love that they consider my sons feelings and don't force anything on him that he doesn't want to do or feel uncomfortable doing. The dentists, assistants, and the receptionists are all so kind. I highly recommend taking your child here for a great experience. I will be taking my second son here as well soon!!

They were so good with my 2 year old. It being her first time at a dentist. They showed her what they be using and see if they can check her teeth. Not forcing her to do anything she was not comfortable doing. Definitely be bring her back here.

My daughter recieved very compassionate care here. Went in for a routine checkup, had to have a few small cavities filled and they completed the work that same day. We were in and out in less than an hour. The up front staff were lovely, and the health care professionals were top notch! Highly recommend!

I took my nephew to Discover children's dentistry in the past, and this time I went there myself. I had a very good experience with Dr. Sheikh and staff. I wasn't aware that he is a family dentistry too before.

Extremely professional. My 2 year old came in for her first ever dentist appointment, and they were extremely patient with her. They explained what they were doing very clearly, and made her feel at ease. She's been begging to brush her teeth every day since. Waiting room is clean, and has a ton of kids' entertainment. Check in process was fast. Highly recommend.

My five-year-old daughter was referred to this practice for specialized treatment. The staff are so welcoming and the facilities are so kid-friendly that she couldn't wait to go back for the follow-up appointment. Her nine-year-old brother was so jealous when he heard about her experience that he wanted to come along as well. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I've been bringing my kids to Discovery Children's Dentistry for many, many years. The dentists and hygienists are great with kids, knowledgeable, professional, thorough, and quick. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a pediatric dentist.

Love this dentist but the office staff has definitely taken a hard hit. Since Courtney left this team things have fallen completely apart. Phone calls aren't returned. I've asked to speak to the orthodontist and do not get calls. My son was told at his appt that he no longer needs to wear rubber bands.... He never had worn them. Then before he had his teeth cleaned they asked him if he ever had braces??? He has braces in right now!!! I would have thought the hygienist would have looked over his chart before??? I received a call when my son showed up to his appt telling me his insurance was canceled??? Panic set in, then they called me back and said he was fine and the insurance was ok????? After his appt they called to set up his next appt and I was told the dentist wants him to have an ortho evaluation. I asked why and she told me the dentist thinks he might need braces? Oh my glitter!!! My son has had braces for almost two years. In August we drove from Temecula for his appt, when he arrived they told him he didn't have one and they would try to work him in. I had the text message from their office with the day and time!!! I confirmed the appt!!! Now they tell me they have a new system The staff member who I spoke to didn't seem to care about my concerns with the many mix ups. When this started going down hill I tried to understand their excuses about staff turn over and not being able to jerk up with return calls etc. I offered to volunteer my time with call backs or answering phones again "VOLUNTEER". I get it, we are all scrambling with COVID going on but at some point we really need to get help when help is offered or try something new. I still stand being the dentist is awesome!!! He is the only reason we still drove from Temecula to see him. Unfortunately if things continue to go downhill I will sadly have to find a new dentist. Is this office worth a try??? I do believe so.... you are in good hands with the dentist as long as you don't mind being bounced around by the staff. They no longer own their mistakes which is unfortunate. Especially when I advised I had the text with the appt reminder, the girl just glossed over it Hopefully these many issues get resolved and they can get back to the amazing quality and care we received when we first stepped into their office three years ago. Below is the review I previously left but wanted to add to it here: The office staff has contacted me and explained their challenges with staffing during Covid. I want to say they stepped up and that's all we can do. I truly admire when people own their mistakes. This office owned it, apologized and was more than sincere. I can't say enough about their professionalism and honesty. They are human like the rest of us and are awesome at what they do!! I truly loved this dentist till recently and I called over 15 times to get an appointment. I left 4-5 voice messages, spoke to someone and they promised me a call back the same day,.... nope, didn't happen. The other times I was unable to leave a message. Sigh, this happened once before but I'm hoping it doesn't continue. We really love the dentist and want to continue being a patient.

I will start by saying a have severe dental phobia. Deciding on a dentist for my children was a difficult task. We have been with Dr Sheihk since my oldest was 2 years old. It was the best decision we ever made. I wish all dentist were like him. I never thought I would ever write this about any dentist , He is the best!

Captain Floss is true to his name!! The trumpets sound when he walks in the room! He truly does save the day. He is quick and professional. His expertise is obvious by how calm and kind he is and knows straight away what to do. He shows he truly cares for children. I have taken my son in for a couple of dental emergencies that very day and he takes care of everything THAT day, there is no waiting. I have brought in my son for the sedation dentistry and Captain Floss took care of my sons 6 fillings under an hour! He is the true superhero of dentistry, thanks Captain Floss!!
