At Dientes, we envision a community where children can focus on school instead of a toothache, adults can make good first impressions and get a job because they have a healthy smile, and seniors can comfortably eat nutritious foods.

We serve publicly insured and uninsured patients of all ages through three clinics in Santa Cruz County and an Outreach Program with multiple locations at schools and community hubs. We offer affordable sliding scale fees for those without insurance. For low-income patients in our community, we are the only provider of dentures, oral surgery, and endodontics (root canals).

In a community where nearly 15 percent of Live Oak Elementary School students are homeless, 15,000 people do not have a doctor, and 78 percent of adults on Medi-Cal do not have a dentist, the need for integrated services is great and the demand far outweighs capacity. Dientes, Santa Cruz Community Health, and MidPen Housing are partnering to create 1500 Capitola Road, a vibrant 3.7-acre health and housing complex in the heart of Live Oak. This crucial first step toward increasing access to healthcare and affordable housing in Santa Cruz County will provide healthcare for up to 10,000 patients, along with affordable housing for 157 people.

We believe that having access to oral healthcare is a social justice issueone that we fight to correct every day. Dientes addresses inequities created by race, ethnicity, language, zip code, income, education, gender, and age by providing access to high quality, affordable oral healthcareso that everyone has the dignity that comes from a healthy smile. We also do this by supporting a diverse workforce and providing opportunities for all races and genders to advance in their careers.

Our primary patient population includes uninsured and publicly insured families, the elderly, the physically and/or developmentally disabled, the homeless, pregnant women and new parents, farm workers and their families, and HIV positive individuals. Approximately 95% of patients are Santa Cruz County residents; 27% of them from South County. 13% of our clients this year lacked any form of dental insurance including public insurance. We are one of very few dental providers in the county serving Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

We also serve a large number of disabled adults and children. We have taken many measures to make our facility completely accessible and welcoming to those with disabilities, including procuring equipment that make positioning easy for every patient and allows ample access for wheelchair patients. In many cases, patients can be treated directly in wheelchairs.

Medicare (the public health insurance we all get once we turn age 65) still doesnt cover oral health. This leaves our seniors struggling to speak and eat nutritiously. It affects self-confidence and can lead to social isolation. Seniors on fixed incomes cant afford the cost of expensive, private dental insurance or for paying out of pocket.

My little girl needs two fillings and they said not appointments available to call at the end of the month. I've called 5 times a day for the last three days and they don't answer. I've left voice messages they don't have the courtesy to call back. What is even more annoying Is that when you are at the clinic you see them all talking and hanging out, taking the sweet time. The other problem is that my husband needs an appointment, too but according to them I can't do it. When I'm the one encharge of everything in my family as my husband is a truck driver for safety reasons he cannot be using his cellphone also he's working up in the mountains (fire recovery) and there is not much of cellphone coverage available and what for? If they don't even answer anyways, SO FRUSTRATING.

Dientes is the best dental service in Santa Cruz. They have the best hygienists and in particular Daniel who is a recent dental graduate so he has all the new skills and does such a thorough job with gentleness. And every dentist there is great, Dr Hana Mixter tops the charts. I feel so lucky to have their services. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

IT's been over 3yrs. since I've visited Dientes and so happy after my appointment today, I was not disappointed ..If anything, I felt more comfortable and cared for than before and I didn't think that was possible..Thank you Sarai for your kindness while checking me in and out. That is so important to me..Also, thank you so much Angie and Dr. Kim for the wonderful care..I'm 62, very claustrophobic and today, I had no anxieties what so ever..You were so kind, caring yet so professional and I walked out of there knowing I'm in good hands for my next visits..Thanks to all the staff at Dientes...Someday when I am able, I will donate..You do so much good for our community and I hope to pay back my gratitude ...Thank you again.

One of the more frustrating businesses to deal with. Their systems are a mess. Very difficult to talk to an actual person (on the phone). You need to confirm your appointment or they'll cancel it on you. Isn't "making" an appointment inherently "confirming" it?! Our daughter was told she needed two fillings. OK, let's schedule it. . . Sorry, you can't schedule more than two months in advance and we're booked for the next two months - try again later. Awful. Terrible. Every time.
