Very friendly, but when I made my appointment, I gave my insurance information over the phone. I was told that I would be notified if they did not accept my insurance. I was never notified. Throughout the visit, they recommended several x-rays, never mentioning that they did not accept my insurance. During my visit, they said I had multiple cavities and needed to get them filled. A month later I went to another dentist for a second opinion. New dentist said I had no cavities and was very surprised Dexter Family Dentistry made me pay out of pocket for my visit when they had never notified me that they did not accept my insurance. Do not trust this facility.

On December 7, 2019 I had and appointment for a cleaning. At that time Dr Kolb did his usual exam and expressed concern about a blemish on my nose, he advised me to see a Dermatologist. I made an appointment with the Dermatologist and a biopsy was done, it was positive for melanoma. On February 14, on to he U of M for surgery and removal . On February 25, Plastic and reconstructive surgery was completed. The melanoma was caught while on the surface before deep penetration. The dermatologist asked me how I knew to act on this, I said my dentist, she said keep him. My surgeon asked how did you know to act on this, I said my dentist, he said do not leave him. Thank You Dr Kolb many times over.

We had been going to Dr. Kolb for over 3 years and loved him and everyone in the office until our most recent experience, which was horribly unprofessional. I took my 5 year old son in for a cavity filling with Dr. Kolb and he quickly lost his patience with my son who was nervous and wiggly. He poked him repeatedly with the needle while trying to numb him and caused my son to be very upset and scared. Then he scolded me for trying to talk to my son and calm him down. After about 10 minutes he completely lost his patience and told us to reschedule and we would try again with some gas. I made our next appointment with Dr. Kolb again but my son was too scared to see him so I rescheduled with Dr. Robison only to then have the receptionist call me back to say that the doctors felt it was best to not see my son at all and have us go to a pediatric dentist. I found this to be incredibly unprofessional to make the receptionist call me and not talk to me themselves to discuss my sons care. We did end up seeing the pediatric dentist which then cost me double what I would have paid originally but my son did great. Took less than 5 minutes and no tears. Amazing how a little patience can make a difference. Also the pediatric dentist told us he only had 1 cavity that needed filling and not 2 like Dr Kolb said, which makes me wonder how many other cavities he has been filling unnecessarily. Save your money and go see someone else who actually cares about their patients. I originally gave this review 1 star but have updated it to 3 stars after Dr. Kolb called me to discuss the case. He apologized for not handling it right and offered to reimburse us for the increase in charges.
