When gum disease is caught relatively early, we can often put a stop to it with a special type of cleaning called scaling and root planing. First, we remove all of the bacteria-filled tartar accumulated around the gum line, and then the roots of the teeth are slightly reshaped and smoothed. This jumpstarts the healing process and also makes it more difficult for plaque to gather near the gums in the future.
Laser dentistry has completely revolutionized the way dentists treat the gums. Rather than using incisions and sutures to help patients with advanced gum disease, we can take a gentler, more precise approach using a soft tissue laser. The light it emits gives off practically no heat or sound while it quickly and seamlessly removes bacteria and infected tissue, meaning the patient basically feels nothing while in the chair.
As gum disease progresses, it can cause pockets of bacteria to form between the teeth and gums that are extremely hard to clean with conventional methods. So, we can instead apply a topical antibiotic called Arestin, which looks like a powder, but its actually thousands of microspheres filled with medicine. After its applied, the spheres slowly melt, allowing the medicine to reach the tiniest spaces and eliminate the infection wherever it might be hiding.

I can't even begin to explain how thankful I am for Dr. Rizkallah and her team! When I was very young (3rd grade), I broke my front tooth on ice which led to a lifetime of dental visits and a crown that I hated. With my wedding coming up, I was so unhappy with my smile and started seeing dentists to see what my options would be. Until here, I felt like my options were either "deal with it" or go the route of veneers. Devonshire Dental was my last hope - I went in for a consultation and Dr. Rizkallah took the time to analyze the tooth, my mouth and my smile and discuss my options with me. Ultimately there were 3 key reasons I hated my smile and we realized 2 of them could be remedied in the short term for my wedding which got us 80% of the way there. I am so happy with the work she did - plus she is the sweetest. I would recommend Dr. Rizkallah and her team 10000%! Thank you so much!

Edited to add that I'm still a patient, two years later. They're the best. Devonshire was my third call when I needed an emergency root canal. After my regular dentist couldn't get me in for two weeks (!!!), I called around until getting to DDA--and thank god I did. The entire staff was wonderful, from the first call to finding me a specialist to see the same day. Thank you Devonshire for your kindness and non-judgment, you were appreciated on a very painful day. I'm definitely switching to their practice.
