At Desoto Dental Services our mission is to make a positive impact on the oral health of the populace of the mid-south area. We are dedicated to providing quality care that is accessible to most patients. Patient comfort is important to us and we make every effort to make their dental visits comfortable. Above all, we respect our patients' right to be an integral part of determining what treatment is rendered to restore and maintain their oral health.

The Diode Laser makes it possible to offer a number of soft tissue procedures with minimal or no anesthesia, rapid healing and no bleeding. Previously, these procedures were done with a scalpel and often required sutures. Some of the procedures available with the Diode Laser include:

in the past, when dentists have needed casts or models of the teeth, we have used an impression material in a tray to make a mould of the teeth that can have a dental stone (a kind of plaster) poured into it. This gives us stone casts or replicas of the teeth to use for study of the teeth and surrounding tissues. Impressions are also used to create accurate casts for dental laboratories to use in the fabrication of crowns, bridges, veneers, and removable partial dentures. with an intra-oral digital scanner, we can make a digital impression that is accurate enough for fabrication of crowns, bridges, veneers, and removable partial dentures. once the dental arch is scanned, the electronic file is uploaded to a dental laboratory for fabrication of dental prostheses. In many cases the patient is able to forego a mouth full of impression material. While this technique is appropriate for crowns, veneers, bridges and removable partials, it is not suitable for complete denture impressions.

For years, dentists have used x-ray images to diagnose tooth decay, periodontal bone loss, cysts, and tumors of the oral cavity. X-rays are also an important part of root canal treatment, and of implant treatment planning and placement. In the past, x-ray images were projected onto a film and developed before a diagnosis could be made. With traditional film x-rays there is a time lag before the image can be viewed.

With digital x-ray images, the image is projected onto a sensor and immediately available to view on a computer monitor, and exposure to radiation is decreased by well over 50% compared to traditional film x-ray techniques. At Desoto Dental Services, we utilize digital x-ray technology for our Panoramic x-ray and for our intra-oral images. This allows us to save time for you and reduce your exposure to radiation at the same time.

These are images that are produced with the sensor in the mouth. These images are used to see the areas between the teeth to detect decay, and to look at the area beyond the tip of the tooth root to diagnose pulpal abscess and to monitor root canal treatment.

These are images that are produced outside the mouth and display an image of the entire upper and lower jaws. These are used to detect un-erupted and erupting teeth, cysts and tumors of the bone, location of sinuses, and the position of nerves and blood vessels relative to teeth and potential surgical sites.

The practice recently incorporated CBCT, or 3D imaging into its arsenal of new digital technology. This technology enables a more precise three dimensional view of the teeth and the surrounding structures in the oral cavity. This provides the capacity to determine ideal placement of dental implants, the need (or not) for bone grafting prior to implant placement, the proximity of tooth roots and existing or potential implants to nerves, blood vessels, and sinus cavities. With a CBCT scan a computer generated guide or template can be produced that provides for optimal implant placement to support single crowns, bridges, or full arch restorations. We use the KaVo ORTHOPANTOMOGRAPH OP 3D.

We employ digital photographs to document the condition of your teeth and of your smile both before and after treatment. The digital photograph is displayed on the computer monitor so that you can see what we are seeing, and thereby better understand the treatment that we recommend.

Dr. Powell is fantastic, but his dental asst. Jennifer, is stressed out due to short staff. At least that's what she said. She yelled at me about an appointment, that was missed, but an appointment was never made. She told me it was, it was on her book. I told her that day, I was sorry if I upset her, because that was not my intent. I called in to find out about an appointment for my husband and she jumped on the phone and was rude again. She than called me back and was rude again. I called back wanting to know her name so I could do a review and again she jumped on the phone, I was talking to someone else, she had her attitude turned on bad and let me have it. I didn't deserve it and gave it right back. Now being the growns ups we are, you would think we could peacefully get along and get past this, instend she refuses to be in the office if I'm there. Maybe that will give her some destress time. Totally uncalled for treatment. Still love Dr. Powell!

I'm putting the whole office on the Angel wall because that's exactly what they are. This is the only dentist I have ever gone to without any pain after any procedure and I have had some pretty rough ones.....

I went in for an appointment on 7/18/17 due to excruciating tooth pain that came on unexpectedly the prior Friday (7/14/17). The hygienist performed regular procedures - x-rays; checked around my mouth, etc. finding that I did have a few cavities and my wisdom tooth would soon be coming in. The dentist then followed up as usual and checked out my x-rays as well as my mouth. He stated that I had a few cavities; however, none of them should've been causing me pain aside from a little sensitivity. I once again proceeded to inform him that my pain was unbearable and there had to be something wrong. The dentist did not look into it any further and stated that he did not see anything on my x-rays nor in my mouth that would be causing me excruciating pain... referred me to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth and sent me on my way. The pain worsened as the day went on so I contacted the dentist later in the day to let them know that I was still in pain and to see if he could give me any kind of prescription for pain, only to be told I would need to go to the ER if I needed something for pain. Of course I did not go to the ER. Since Tuesday, I have barely been able to eat or drink anything as the pain would worsen upon putting anything in my mouth. Today (2 days later) the pain was so bad it was causing my whole entire side of my face/head to hurt and nearly bringing tears to my eyes. As I couldn't take the pain any longer, I decided to reach out to another dentist (Dr. Denney) that said he could see me right then. I told him what was going on and he proceeded to check my mouth.... turns out I had NOT ONLY 1, BUT 2 FRACTURED TEETH (EXPOSED/DAMAGED NERVES) and both needed root canals done. He prescribed me antibiotics to keep the nerve alive until I could come back as well as pain medication. Needless to say.... I will NEVER go back to Desoto Dental and do not recommend this dentist to anyone.

Best dentist ever. Dr. Powell and his staff was amazing. I am terrified of any dentist and has had bad experiences in the past but Dr. Powell was patient, gentle and made sure I did not feel a thing. If your looking for a great dentist that knows what they are doing and not just after your money then this is the place for you.
