Dr. Tenney graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boise State University in 2009. In 2013, Dr. Tenney graduated at the top of his class from Midwestern University Dental School with his DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry).
Dr. Tenneys postgraduate training was completed during his four years of active duty in the United States Army. Returning to civilian life, Dr. Tenney is now focusing on providing men, women, and children in and around Glendale with the safest, most comfortable, most advanced, and most rewarding dental experience possible.
The Arizona Dental Association requires dentists complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE) every year. Dr. Tenney routinely completes four to five times that amount, often completing up to 100 hours of CE in a single year. By committing to several courses at the same time, Dr. Tenney is able to spend significant amounts of time learning from some of the nations most experienced dentists, enabling him to safely incorporate advanced techniques and technologies that improve patient experience and outcomes.

Committed to patients and passionate about dentistry, Dr. Tenney attends multiple weekend courses throughout the year to ensure everyone who walks through our doors is provided the safest and most effective treatments available.
As a lead dentist for the Army, Captain Tenney was committed to implementing new technologies such as 3D x-rays and intraoral scanning, helping our troops maintain optimal oral health. His intelligence, adaptability, and skills earned Dr. Tenney an invitation to spend time with the Oral Surgery residents while still an officer, enabling him to gain first-hand knowledge and experience with advanced services including extractions, dental implants, and sedation dentistry.
Dr. Tenney 's passion for and commitment to dentistry was so obvious during his time in the Army that his commander, Colonel Hemker, an Army Dentist with over 30 years experience, once called Dr. Tenney 'the most talented young dental officer I have seen in my career.'
Dr. Leigh-Ann Schuerman graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1996 and relocated to Arizona. She has been practicing dentistry for over 25 years. While Dr. Schuerman enjoys all aspects of dentistry she has extensive training in Cosmetics, Orthodontics and Sedation Dentistry. In 2008, she joined Midwestern University School of Dental Medicine as an Associate Professor and Clinical Care Director. She was later promoted to develop and direct the Pediatric and Special Needs Clinic and remained in that role until 2017. At that time, she changed her educational focus overseas and became involved with The University of Technology - Oral Health Sciences program in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. Schuerman still today continues her passion for helping those less fortunate.
In addition to her role in education and general practice, she is also a consultant for county, state, national, and international dentistry. Her role with the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners (AzBODEX) involves evaluations of current dentists applying for Oral Conscious Sedation permits. She is a consultant for a national and international dental licensing examinations, The Commission of Dental Competency Assessment (CDCA), and lectures regarding Pediatric and Adult Oral Conscious, as well as, Adult Intravenous Sedation throughout the United States. Dr. Schuerman has completed a fellowship in Forensic Odontology at the University of Texas in San Antonio and currently consults with both Maricopa and Pinal County while simultaneously working towards Board Certification.

Everyone in the office is so nice. Rachel did my teeth cleaning and did a great job. I had x-rays so I saw Dr Tenney and he's always so nice.

This is an amazing dental practice. The entire team lead by Dr. Tenney, is fantastic. There is nobody on this earth who is more scared to go to the dentist than me. They never gave up on me. Today I had the most amazing visit that may have changed my entire outlook about "going to the dentist"....Jesus, did I really say that??? Those are words that I never thought I'd ever say. I just had a tooth filled and appreciate the care l was given. Unfortunately l was nervous due the location of the filling. Dr. Tenney put me at ease which was great. Kim also helped ease my fears. It is good to trust your dental team. You can't put a price on great care!

Today, I really enjoyed the quality care and expertise that I have received at the Desert Smiles. Dr. Tenney & the Dental hygienist are very professionals & knowledgeable. What an amazing dental office! I was a dental hygienist for many years and have practiced in multiple offices throughout the valley. Trust me when I say this is by far one of the best practices you will find. Dr. Tenney and the team are knowledgeable, efficient and most importantly to me, honest. There are too many offices out there that will over-diagnose and push unnecessary treatment, but not Desert Smiles. The doctors, assistants and hygienists have a kind and compassionate chairside manner and the front office team is wonderful when it comes to scheduling and letting you know exactly what your insurance benefits are.
