Derek Cohlmia, DDS is a third generation dentist dedicated to his patients' overall health needs. Born and raised in OKC, Dr. Cohlmia began his dental career at the University of Oklahoma for his undergraduate degree. From there he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.
Throughout his time in college and dental school, Dr. Cohlmia served within his community and and across the world through mission trips. He is a member of both the American Dental Association and Oklahoma Dental Association.
As an educator, his dental assisting school provides accelerated, hands-on training for individuals seeking a career in dentistry. Students look forward to an active learning environment for a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience.
Brandon Cohlmia, DDS is an Oklahoma native. He graduated from Heritage Hall High School and is an Eagle Scout. Brandon received his undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma. He was then accepted into the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry Class of 2019. As a third generation dentist with a grandfather, father, and brother in the same field; his dedication to serving the community is strong.
Dr. Cohlmia loves spending time with family, friends, and his chocolate lab named Bailey. He enjoys cooking nutritious meals and he is an outdoor enthusiast. Some of his favorite activities include tennis, biking, snow skiing, and rock climbing. He is a spirited fan of professional tennis, Thunder basketball and college football.
Dr. Cohlmia volunteers at Oklahoma Mission of Mercy and at the Good Shepherd Ministries free extraction clinic. He has helped educate and train dental assistants and his mission is to improve Oklahoma smiles to encourage the self-confidence needed to pursue the things they love.
As an educator, Melissa believes in providing every student the opportunity to achieve their own success devoting herself to facilitate this pursuit with high ethical standards of both integrity and excellence each day. Sharing with students the value of putting patients needs first iswhat fuels Melissa to continue trainingdental assistants.
Ronda has a true servants heart! She enjoys meeting new people and the opportunity to build lasting relationships while ensuring all patients have a positive experience. Ronda has extensive dental knowledge as both a clinical professional and front office administration. When not serving patients, Ronda can be found spending time with her family or driving her convertible VW slug-bug.' Be sure to ask about her ducks!
Sherry has more than 20 years experience understanding the importance of first impressions. She loves welcoming our patients each day and always has a smile on her face! When she's not serving up smiles, she can be found on the tennis court or spending quality time with her family.
Duke is a graduate of our accelerated dental assisting school and a pre-dental student. Born and raised here in OKC, he loves the communities and diversity of Oklahoma! He has a passion for serving others and ensuring our patients have the best experience possible. When he's not prepping for dental school, Duke enjoys playing the guitar, travelling, and spending time with his wife, Cassidy.

Dr. Cohmia and the entire staff at Family Dental Center are so wonderful and actually make me look forward to going to the dentist!! I would recommend them to anyone looking interested in a new dentist!!

This office is special. I took my senior mother to them during a toothache crisis and they accommodated her in every way. (She'd also been badly injured not quite weeks prior in a car accident.) It was mid-January and it was day they'd planned not to work; they took her anyway. If I had to summarize the experience, it was like they already old friends and proceeded in professional and knowledgeable manner to care for her issue, get her a teeth cleaning, and get her back home as soon as possible. I just booked my initial appointment with them today. 5 stars

I am really nervous going to the dentist but Dr. Cohlmia and his staff was amazing. Me and my 2 daughters had the best experience ever. I will not be going to anywhere else.

I moved to Oklahoma City from Chicago in November, 2015. I had thought to maintain my dentist in Naperville but it became too difficult to travel for appointments. I was facing 2 root canals and another issue that he was going to refer out anyways. He also did not have any suggestion for an OKC DDS. So, I ignored my dental needs... until they became urgent in May 2021. Through the magic of social media I found Dr. Cohlmia and 2 other candidates. The communication with Dr. Cohlmia far exceeded the others' regarding a sense of urgency; geniality; and professionalism. I was able to appoint within a day due to a cancellation. After the initial exam Dr. Cohlmia had a detailed treatment plan and the financial aspects were coordinated with Melisa. Truly well- balanced. I had an emergency the within 2 days- a bridge fell out- and I was leaving for Seattle in a few hours. Dr. Cohlmia fit me in and came up with a solution that was aesthetic and functional until I returned. I need to mention Duke - the dental assistant and future dental student. He is just great. Pre-anticipates needs and wonderful demeanor. With all this, I could not endorse this wonderful group more emphatically. I wish I met OKC family dentistry earlier but am so thankful I am here now. I grew up in a dental community and I feel right at home here. Great work Dr.Cohlmia, Melisa, Duke, front desk, and lady but not least- Dr. B. Cohlmia for extractions! Thank you! Well done!

Everyone here is sooo sweet and Derek is great. They really do care about their patients. I've been searching for a dentist in OKC for awhile and so grateful I landed here. I completely trust that my teeth are in good hands with Derek and his crew.

Love the friendly staff, they are very knowledgable and supportive. My family trusts the team and feels comfortable talking to them about concerns. We actually look forward to going to the dentist now!

After going through a horrible dental experience many years ago, I developed severe dental anxiety to the point where I avoided cleanings and dentist visits all together. I thought I would never make it back to a dentist because of the fear I had. Recently, I had no choice but to come to the dentist after 5 years due to a tooth causing me issues and I was recommended to see Dr. Cohlmia by a coworker. Dr Cohlmia and his staff took care of me so well. During the appointment, I had to get a crown... this made me upset as I was terrified of long procedures. In an effort to make me as comfortable as possible, they put on a Christmas movie for me and one of his staff members even offered to massage my hands while I was getting my tooth worked on. Dr. Cohlmia has a very positive and calming energy and his work was perfect. I left feeling okay about coming back to the dentist in the future which is a HUGE step for me. I can't thank Dr. Cohlmia and his staff enough for the enormous weight they have lifted off my shoulders. You guys are something special here.

Excellent communication. In our consult Dr. Derek and his assistant gave us clear explanations for several options to meet our orthodontic needs. The specific costs for each option, as well as financing and payment plans were clearly and openly discussed as well. So grateful to find the information we need to make a good decision!
