Pediatric dentists are specialists in treating the unique needs of children. A pediatric dentist has completed an additional 2-3 years of specialty training beyond dental school and treats the oral health needs of infants and children, including those with special needs. Pediatric dentists are skilled at using smaller equipment designed for a childs mouth and better understand the intricacies and importance of baby teeth in a growing child. They also focus more attention on educating patients and parents about preventive care to help children avoid complications such as decay, infection, speech problems, and cosmetic issues.

Primary, or baby, teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to erupt. It is important to remember that oral health affects more than the health of your teeth. Cavities in baby teeth cause pain and swelling that can be tremendously uncomfortable for your child. Oral infections can enter the blood stream and lead to other serious health problems. Bacteria can quickly jump from one part of the mouth to another, thus resulting in infections and cavities in new erupting adult teeth.

Dentistry for Children of Jackson, is excited to serve the community of Ocean County as well as the surrounding areas of Jackson Township, Lakewood, Toms River, Howell, Manchester, and Monmouth Counties.

Our doctors, Dr. Jenna C. Winokurand Dr. Donn H. Winokur are specifically trained as pediatric dentists to treat children and help them practice healthy habits at a young age. Our team is committed to providing quality pediatric dental care for children from their toddler years on through their teenage years.

If I could give negative stars I would!! We had a few horrible experiences with this practice. Firstly, my son was told he had 3 cavities at a routine visit. I wanted them to be addressed quickly so they wouldn't be painful and grow bigger. They scheduled him for 6 months later!!! After calling many times and even complaining of pain, they still couldn't help me! It is not normal for a dentist to do this to a patient. Don't take on more than you can handle!! Secondly, when his appointment finally came, I came to the dentist with a newborn baby who they wouldn't let me wheel into the room. I had to call my husband down so he could handle one kid while I handled the other. When making the reminder call they did not warn me that my son can't eat for 3 hours before the appointment and my son had eaten breakfast that morning. I told the receptionist right when we came. Instead of asking the dentist immediately, she waited over half an hour until the dentist was ready for me. Mind you, I came to my appointment on time. The dentist said they couldn't do the cavities because he had eaten. I begged them to do it without laughing gas because my son is very obedient and would have been fine and they refused to even try!! That is not normal!! So we wasted our whole morning!! and that was after waiting 6 months for that appointment. The next week he had another appointment scheduled that we went to. They required a new x-ray because the routine one was six months old! The technician, however, was too lazy to position the machine correctly, and said we would have to skip the x-rays because my son wasn't "cooperating". The dentist then came in and said that since there were no x-rays he would simply have to cap three teeth. No matter what my husband said the dentist came up with a different excuse each time. He refused to "try taking x-rays again" because the technician was "very good so imy son must be difficult". He explained that anyway my son wouldn't like getting a novocaine shot. And anyway the cavities grew and the filling wouldn't hold. And anyway the baby teeth will fall out. He insisted that the only other option was to take my son to the hospital and administer general anesthesia. This was all done very quickly, so my husband would have no time to think, and would just agree to the dentist. In about two minutes he had capped all three teeth. Basically he just wanted to make more money in less time and had no regard for how my son's mouth would look. Now my son has 3 silver caps on his baby teeth that show when he smiles!! Is this what a dentist is??!?!?!?!?!?! I would never use this dentist again unless you dont care about your childs teeth! They will no doubt respond to this review by apologizing for how I feel and stating that they try their best. A quick, easy way to brush me off rather than reexamining their staff and protocol!

I really enjoyed taking my 5 year old son to the dentist! It was his first visit so he was a little nervous, but Lauren, the hygienist, made him feel really comfortable by chatting with him and explaining all the procedures. They have this really cute feature at the end they have prize machines in the waiting room and they give all the kids a few tokens to use in the machines! My son said he loved going!

This office gets great marks for the orthodontic work that is done, but loses three stars for office staff that are increasingly incompetent. Multiple times the tech will say one thing (ie to schedule the next TWO appointments), but the front desk will claim that only one appointment can be made. On the next visit, the tech commented that we should have scheduled the next appointment already; in sharing this with the front desk, we were given dates for a particular procedure. When calling back to finalize that appointment, we were told that the procedure had already been done (it was not). Additionally, we have tried to move our business to another Dentistry for Children location, and members of the Jackson office have first said it is not allowed (corporate disagrees) and then that it would be too much work (for them!) to move us. I cannot wait until we are done with this practice, and I greatly wish we never got into business with them.

The office staff is a complete joke. They take 4+ months to schedule any procedures and they don't tell you that upfront. They are incredibly unaccommodating. They try to take my toddler without me being in the room because they wouldn't allow two adults with two kids. They're "so busy" then they shouldn't accept new patients. I would never recommend this place. Too bad the office staff is such trash because the hygenist was really nice. The doctor was pretty judgmental also. Stay FAR away.

My daughter has had nothing but bad experiences when it's come to dentists. A previous procedure at a different dentist left her completely traumatized because she wasn't numbed properly and a crown that was put on incorrectly. She had to get the tooth pulled today and I can't say enough about how wonderful the dentist was with her. She was so scared, but they talked her through it and when we left she said, "I'm not scared of the dentist anymore!". After dealing with so much fear and anxiety, this was the best thing I could have heard. Thank you so much to the dentists, hygienists, and office staff here for bending over backwards to fit her in and give her a great experience!

Very stuck up doctor that had an attitude for no reason. My mom was just asking what procedures he was doing today , my mom was just confused about the amount of cavities. She said nothing to this man as he explained and he walked out telling his assistant that we were looking for another doctors opinion although we never said that? and did zero procedures. He claimed he had other patients to see and walked out. Very odd... but I could tell he was stuck up by the way he presented himself. Pretty sure his name was Dr. Bryan.

My son was seen at the end of April for a routine cleaning. They told me he has a deep cavity that is already almost until his nerve. I wanted to get it taken care of as quick as possible, but nope! Earliest appointment was at the end of August. I've called multiple times only to have the unhelpful answering service tell me there's nothing available earlier. I was flexible with which office location and timing, put myself on the cancellation list, but still nothing. Apparently they don't care about their patients teeth. If they would, there would be timely appointments, and they wouldn't be taking in new patients if the practice is too full. On a positive note, my son does love going to the dentist. There is usually not a long wait and the hygienists are so kind and patient.

This office has been great until my daughter got a cavity and they made us wait 11 months to have it taken care of. I've spoke to a few of my family members that go there too and they are all leaving because of the horrible wait time, mostly over a year. These people care about the money they can make putting a kid to sleep at a surgery center because why not cash in on that. What a pathetic place to go to! Oh and did I mention they're taking new patients, stay away or don't get any cavities. That's all I can suggest!

I always recommend this practice to my friends! The office staff are friendly, the office is beautiful and clean, I have never had a wait time longer than a couple minutes, and the dental team is so good with kids! We were at the Jackson location recently and Lauren was our hygienist. She was really incredible with my kids, especially my very shy 3 year old. Thank you for making this possibly stressful experience much easier for our family!
