A local native, Dr. Rebecca (Heintschel) Howell grew up in South Hunstville. She graduated from Grissom High School then attended both the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and UAH. At the University of Alabama, she continued her ballet experience performing on Alabama 's dance team, The Crimson Cabaret. While attending UAH, she worked part-time as an oral surgeon assistant and she developed a passion for the dental field. In 1992 she finished her Bachelor of Chemistry from UAH then matriculated into dental school. Shortly before she received her dental degree from the University of Alabama School Of Dentistry in 1996, she married her husband, John. For over 20 years he has been employed for NASA and she has been at her current office location in Downtown Hunstville. John and Dr. Howell have three terrific children and one dog: Chase, Grant, Hope and Johnny 'Cash' the dog.
Except for water skiing, her current hobbies are Mom related: soccer Mom, band Mom, tutoring math at Jones Valley Elementary, Hope's baton classes, and Boy Scouts. Chase and Dr. Howell have been on numerous camping trips including BSA high adventure sites: backpaing at Philmont 2014, sailing at Sea Base in 2016, and Kayaking at Northern Tier is scheduled in 2018. Teaching the Dentistry merit badge and being a certified merit badge counselor is another way Dr. Howell supports scouting.
Dr. Howell encourages the growth and passion for dentistry through internships with students in both local high schools and local colleges. Being active in her community is important to Dr. Howell and that's why she sponsors these interniships for students who are interested in the field of dentistry. Students can come to observe the dental team perform various treatments on patients and discover their passion.

I love this place! They do excellent work. They are compassionate and understanding. And they make you feel like family. I never get dirty looks because I sometimes have purple hair or super short hair. I always get professional treatment. I have been coming here for a few years and am bringing my son with me. They offer comfort items, sedation dentistry, blankets, massaging chairs, and so much more. I highly recommend Dentistry Downtown.
