Established in 1997 by Dr. Richard L. Robinette, DMD, Dentistry by Design is committed to serving each patients dental needs with the utmost professionalism and care. We serve Spring Hill, Tennessee, and the surrounding areas, offering a comprehensive selection of dental services for children and adults. This includes dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, sedation dentistry, emergency dentistry, sleep apnea and TMJ treatment, oral surgery, dentures, crowns, fixed bridges, periodontal dentistry, and much more.
At Dentistry by Design, we tailor our dental services to each patients unique needs. Dr. Robinette is not a dentist who simply patches patients up and sends them on their way he develops lasting relationships with patients to truly fix their problems and help them avoid future issues.
Dr. Robinette spent his first ten years as a dentist in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Tinker AFB, OK, Florennes AB, Belgium, Spangdahlem AB, Germany, and Nellis AFB, NV. Dr. Robinette had a very exciting and rewarding Air Force career. While stationed at Tinker AFB, he was given the opportunity to fly in AWACS and he was a member of the 1984 Air Force Bowling Championship team and a member of the 1987 Air Force Bowling Championship runner up.
While stationed at Florennes AB, Belgium he was part of the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty to disarm mobile nuclear missiles. While stationed there he was given the opportunity to enter East Germany through Check Point Charlie in West Berlin, Germany. Dr. Robinette was the last person to be stationed at the dental clinic in Florennes as the base was closed as part of the INF Treaty. The Florennes dental clinic sign hangs in his office.
Dr. Robinette was stationed with the only mixed fighter squadron in the world while stationed at Spangdahlem AB, Germany. As part of his job at Spangdahlem AB, he routinely flew back seat in F-4 and F-16 fighters. Dr. Robinette was also in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down and East and West Germany were united as one country. Desert Shield and Desert Storm occurred while he was stationed there and his base was very active in both campaigns.
During Desert Storm Dr. Robinette was transferred to Nellis AFB, NV so that he could be a member of the dental clinic team with the Stealth Fighters at Tonopah Test Range, NV. During his time with the Stealth Fighters they were still a black operations unit.
Among the numerous awards Dr. Robinette received while he was in the Air Force; he was the Junior Dental Officer of the Year in 1986 for the Air Force Logistics Command. He was awarded an Air Force Commendation Medal and two Air Force Meritorious Service Medals.
Dr. Robinette practices comprehensive dental care looking at the health of the oral cavity and its relationship to the overall health of the patient. He places a strong emphasis on head and neck pain and sleep dentistry. Dr Robinette has extensive surgical skills in dental implants and periodontal therapy. He has earned over 5091 continuing education credits during his career.
Melissa joined the Dentistry by Design team in 2008. Through various positions and continuing education Melissa has honed her skills and has a passion for dentistry. Melissa helps to create an exceptional office environment. She genuinely cares about the patient experience from the moment they walk in the door. She loves getting to know each patient and family that she meets. Melissa enjoys the outdoors, traveling, watching soccer, and spending time with her husband and 2 kids.
Darlene has been in the dental field since 1991 and has worked in almost every aspect of dentistry. Darlene joined our team in 2005 and enjoys being part of such a great team. Helping people is what she loves about her job. Darlene cares for her patients as though they were family. Outside of work, her life revolves around her husband and children.
Christie has been with the practice since February of 2004 and considers herself a people person. Christie enjoys talking with the patients and making them as comfortable as possible throughout their visit. When she is not working, Christie enjoys crafting, drawing, and spending time with her family.
Lorie joined our team in May of 2008 as a dental hygienist. Lorie enjoys working with patients of all ages and giving them a reason to smile. Outside of work, Lorie enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids. Go Vols!

Dr. Robinette is an incredibly talented dentist and implant surgeon. It would be difficult to find a more experienced, better trained and technologically advanced practice in the Spring Hill area. If you are in need of any dental service or procedure, I would highly consider Dr. Robinnette. I would not hesitate to entrust him and his staff for any of my dental needs. A++

Very professional from scheduling the appointment to the after service check in. Doctor always takes a few minutes to check in with you even when you are in for "just" a cleaning. Super friendly, all of them, always with most current data on your dental status - they actually take notes each time and read them as well.

WARNING: MONEY HUNGRY. I went in for my annual cleaning today, took PTO from work and drove 30 minutes from Columbia. When I arrived the hygienist did my X-rays and discussed my dental history with me. I informed her that I would be moving out of state in a matter of weeks so I was just here for my annual cleaning. She left the room to go talk to the dentist and came back in to tell me that I had cavities and I let her know I was moving in just 6 weeks and would not be putting any money towards dental work before my move and would just like my cleaning. She left the room to go talk to the dentist again and came back in to tell me that since I wouldn't be doing any work and just a cleaning that I would be better off to get my cleaning done wherever I'm moving to so that they have all my records. Knowing that I am moving and they wouldn't reap the benefits of the work I need done they had absolutely no interest giving me the annual cleaning that I had scheduled and I'm sure they still billed my insurance for. Now granted, after the hygienist seen the utter disbelief on my face, she reluctantly told me "well, I mean if you really wanted I could just do your cleaning but..." I interrupted her and left. With absolutely no interest in wanting to give any business to a dental office that is so greedy, that doing something essential for one's dental health, like annual cleanings, is only important when there's additional revenue to come from it. Let's also keep in mind, by them doing my X-rays, I will still have to have my records sent to my new dentist as insurance isn't going to pay for additional X-rays. I'll be filing a complaint with my insurance as soon as I receive my statement.
