Dentistry by Design - General dentist in New Orleans, LA

As a practice, we are true believers that preventative care and education are the keys to optimal dental health. We strive to provide dental health care vs. disease care. Thats why we focus on thorough exams checking the overall health of your teeth and gums, performing oral cancer exams, and taking x-rays when necessary. We also know that routine cleanings, flossing, sealants, and fluoride are all helpful in preventing dental disease.

I stumbled across this dentist office while I was walking. I decided to give them a try since I'm due for a cleaning. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. The dental assistant scanned my x-rays into someone else's chart. I had to take the panoramic X-Ray which is extremely uncomfortable multiple times. I was led to the chair for my cleaning and then asked to take the panoramic X-Ray once again. At that point I decided to get up and leave. I am thankful they were able to get me in sooner than my 10:00 a.m. appointment but they still wasted my time.

I have been going to this dentist for almost 5 years now but the past month I'm not sure what's going on. First I was told by the front desk the day before my scheduled appt that I didn't have medical coverage when I did. A young woman who didn't sound the friendliest called to tell me I wasn't covered and they don't do same day verification. I completely understand the rules but I did have coverage. Fast forward to the next day, the day of my appt, A different woman called to tell me I wasn't covered and I would have to reschedule (she didn't sound the nicest either) regardless I explained I had coverage. She said she would check & let me know if she found any further issues. Later that day I had a family emergency, I called hours before my scheduled time to inform the office I would not be coming and I may not be able to answer my phone if they tried to call back. Clearly no one checked the message because 8 mins past my appointment time I received a call from the office but of course I wasn't able to answer. When I got home I heard the voicemail of the woman from earlier that day telling me that I was late & they don't allow patients to be late so I needed to reschedule. I figured they must check the machines in the mornings so at the time I was called no one received my message yet. I assumed when they came in the next day the message had been received & they realized I called way before my scheduled time. So today I called back to reschedule and I was told I would have to pay a $50 fee. Not sure when it turned to $50 instead of $35 for starters and secondly why would I pay for being a "no show" when I clearly called & communicated. It's not my job to answer the phone for patients or check messages. My job is to be where I said I'm going to be & to effectively communicate in a timely manner if I can not do so. So from where I'm sitting I did everything I was supposed to do. I love my dentist cause she truly does care about her patients & their oral health & she really does work to find the best & most affordable solution for each individual person. It's a black owned practice which I LOVE & before this month I have never had not one issue. But I'm a very big principle person & on principle alone I can not & will not be forced to pay for something I didn't do. I wasn't a no show. Between my insurance info being incorrectly told to me & my voicemail getting lost somehow causing me to pay a fee that is now double all of a sudden , it just seems very unorganized right now. I almost want to cry cause I love Dr. Amos and the care she give me but I can't keep having instances where I'm made to feel like I'm wrong or did something wrong when I didn't. So sadly I'll be finding another dentist. This is my personal experience & again before this month I've never had an issue and when I did it was with the staff. So feel free to still try Dr. Amos out, maybe a different day & different workers will give you the experience I remember.

When you visit Dr. Amos your smile is their top priority. her team is very helpful from the time you schedule your appointment until the time you leave after completing your appointment. The turn around time is very fast to get into the office for services and when you are in the chair you are the most important patient at that time. I would recommend Dr. Amos services for your smile and dental services.

I LOVE Dr. Amos , she is always pleasant and makes you feel really comfortable. I've been going there for the past three years and I've never had a problem seeing her or waiting long on appointment days. I would recommend her to anyone. She is super child friendly to.

Really five stars! First, I must admit writing reviews isn't one of my things to do.. but after relying on reviews a lot more this past year, I understand how much it helps and especially knowing firsthand the task of finding a dentist (I felt compelled) okay now here it goes, from my initial phone call to my appointment as a new patient, I felt welcomed. The entire staff was kind and professional and made me feel very comfortable. I had been dreading going to the dentist and somewhat embarrassed but Dr Amos and everyone I encountered made me feel human and as they genuinely wanted to help me. The office was cleaned and sanitized and they treated me like a priority. Everyone was hands-on and answered all my questions and I had many lol the first time I have ever wanted to revisit a dentist and I am 35 YAY I finally found MY dentist and I cannot stop smiling literally! I haven't smiled this much in many years. I am already looking for a reason to go back! Thank you AJ and Dr Amos and Lauren (sorry if I messed this up, I don't hear well with my mask on) and the lovely petite lady in the front. I really cannot say thank you enough!

My mother called to see if she can make an appointment for a tooth extraction as we had heard good things about Dr. Amos' office. Unfortunately, the receptionist who took her call was just downright rude to her. I am disgusted. We are Hispanic and English is not my mom's first language. She does speak English well if only a little slowly because she knows it's harder to understand accents over the phone. My mother only asked three questions: what was the pricing for the exam, the extraction, and when was the office hours. What I wrote is exactly what was asked. No more, no less. The lady who took the call spat out several prices for the exam. It honestly sounded like she was telling her anything to get her off the phone. She got super nasty when she was asked about the price for the extraction for which she was told several times "We don't give out quotes for extractions," when she only asked once and said okay when she was told the FIRST time. The call lasted all of 2 minutes but the receptionist treated her as if she was a second class citizen and wasting her time. Constantly speaking over her and giving answers to questions that weren't asked. Just garbage behavior. After my mom hung up, I called right back and asked the same three questions, but the response was a complete 180 of what my mother received. My English isn't accented. Before you ask "well how did you know it was her?" When my mom asked her name at the end of the call, she said it was Felicia. When I called, and forwardly asked if her name was Felicia, she stuttered and gave a non-answer. Take from that what you will. Safe to say, we won't be recommending to this office to any one, much less anyone bilingual. No one should be subjected to the treatment my mother received today. I want to clarify there's not any ill feelings towards Dr. Amos. I'm sure she's capable provider, but how can one give a good review or recommend her office when you can't even get passed the front desk?

I have never had anything but good experiences here since it first opened. Dr Amos is very polite, professional but easy to talk to, and let's you know what is necessary and what isn't. The staff are always very welcoming and friendly. They even got me in and out fast when my temporary crown fell off.
