Dr. Jon Rischer hails from the Northwest Missouri farming community of Maryville. Following graduation from NW Missouri State University, he attended the University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry, graduating in 1987. Dr. Jon began his dental career practicing in his hometown and teaching at the UMKC School of Dentistry, where he received numerous Distinguished Teacher awards.
In December 1996 he married Dr. Valle, becoming each others partners in all aspects of life when they opened Woodrail Dental Center in Columbia, MO in 1998. In November 2007, the office was moved and reopened as Dentistry by Design in Columbia. Dr. Jon has committed himself to constantly learning more about the evolving field of dentistry. In 2013, Dr. Jon received his fellowship from the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. LVI Fellow is the distinction awarded to those who have completed the LVI Core Curriculum which consists of a minimum of 278 continuing dental education hours of training in advanced aesthetics and neuromuscular science. He has also received numerous hours of continuing education from the Facial Beauty Institute.
When away from the office, Dr. Jon enjoys spending time with his children, Christian and Audrey. Their entire family enjoys playing golf. He is an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and both he and Dr. Valle provide protective athletic mouthguards to athletes at Father Tolton Catholic High School.
For Dr. Valle Wilhite Rischer, dentistry has been a way of life from an early age. Many afternoons after school were spent at her fathers dental office in Macon, MO. She has attended Truman State University, the University of Missouri St. Louis, and finally the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Dentistry, graduating at the top of her class in 1995 as the recipient of numerous awards.
After practicing dentistry with her father and in Kansas City, Dr. Valle opened Woodrail Dental Center in Columbia in 1998 with her husband, Dr. Jon Rischer, whom she married in 1996. The practice changed its name and location in November 2007, and is now Dentistry by Design, at its present location in Columbia. Post-graduate education remains integral in Dr. Valles dental career so that the entire team can provide the highest quality of dental care and service to patients. After several years of intensive coursework and training at The Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), she received the LVI Fellowship distinction. She also attends and is a member of the Facial Beauty Institute.
Outside of her three days a week at the office, Dr. Valle loves spending time with her children, Christian and Audrey. In 2007 she ventured out as an author, writing the book Angels on Earth. She is a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Our Lady of Lourdes Interparish School, and is a Tolton Catholic High School parent. She volunteers regularly as a lunch lady in the cafeteria at Tolton. One of her favorite things to do is play golf with her family.

When I say there is no other person that is as patient, concerned, and invested in your dental health than Dr. Vallee I say it with all confidence that you will not find another like her! She listens when you speaks, validates what she is hearing, then will go above and beyond to do what is requested and needed. Dr. Vallee does not rush, and doesn't rush you. If you have questions she is ready to answer. If you have concerns she is ready to easy them. If you are scared she is ready to hold ya hand! Seriously my family is amazed by the grace and knowledge she has. Now as for the staff they are amazing too. You can see that it is evident that they are treated as family!

I can not adequately express how thrilled the entire family has been with Dr Valle Rischer and the Dentistry By Design staff. We are new to the area and chose Dentistry by Design based on the great reviews. They are warranted! Fantastic service! Personable staff!

Dentists and staff are all very kind and trustworthy! Bonus- minimal/almost no pain (especially compared to former dentist) when getting work done. My kids love them too. Highly recommend!

I cannot day enough great things about Drs Jon and Valle! We have been patients there for the last 15 years. The staff is patient with my two small children and they can't wait to go. It's so nice having such wonderful, educated doctors so close to home! Highly recommended them!

Dr. Valle and Dr. Jon have been our family's dentists for almost 20 years! And our 15 year old daughter's only dentist! Great staff, wonderful dental care and always on time. We really couldn't ask for better!

I had TMJ really bad about 2 years ago. My dentist referred me to Dentistry By Design of Columbia , MO. So I went and They explain my condition in detail of what needed to be done to fix my TMJ. Dr. Jon & Dr. Valle are amazing. I've been with them since I found out about them . I live about 40 min away and I go every month (it's worth the drive). Now they got my jaw all lined back up and now they are working on getting my bit back where it needs to be! I really don't think you could meet 2 better doctors (who knows what they are doing) and their staff! They are very pleasant, always cheerful . After they get me back where I need to be, I'm going to continue my regular maintenance with them. They also do all other dentistry work, so Please look them up, you won't be disappointed !!!

For now I will give a 2 star review. I was recommended here for a chipped tooth and when I called to make my appt that's what I went in expecting to get my tooth fixed and some cavities filled. Upon my arrival I was greeted by a friendly staff and prompt service, not knowing the routine of this dentist I was going with the flow of things going on had films taken and teeth looked at met the dentist and hygienist and all was going as expected. The dental assistant then asked when I was able to come back for another appt. I was caught off guard by this question still thinking my my tooth was getting fixed and the appt was for a cleaning and cavities filled. No that was not the case at all. The appt she was asking to schedule was for everything. So now I'm going into week 2 with a chipped tooth and a wasted appt in my eyes. As I could of done the initial exam and basic new patient setup on another appt. Hopefully all goes well on next appt and get the things I need taken care of this coming Tuesday my review may change after that.

Went to Dr. Jon for a couple years. Always needed fillings, didn't go back last year due to money and just not comfortable with what they were saying. Had routine cleanings, and fillings needed every time on teeth that weren't noted as being an issue before. Went to a new dentist in Columbia, 2 of fillings I'd had at DBD were causing issues. Both I had complained to about previously. One felt cracked, wasn't filled in all the way. The other hadn't been filed down so it caused pain upon biting down. New dentist fixed it all during the initial routine cleaning, and said I didn't need any more fillings. Which was a surprise since, I had 2 that I needed the prior visit at DBD. First time in years I went to the dentist and didn't have to come back to give more money. The fillings I had had at DBD, I never had tooth pain prior to the fillings and always tender post fillings. My husband sees the wife, and has had the same problems with pain after a treatment never before. He was sent for a root canal on one of his first visits to DBD on a tooth that was NEVER an issue, he had absolutely no sensitivity or pain. After the root canal though, he has pain to the point he doesn't chew on that side. I wouldn't refer anyone to Dentistry by Design.

Dentistry by Design is by far the best dentist office that I've ever been to. Incredibly friendly and personable staff from the front desk all the way to the dentists themselves. It's a shame that I can't take them with me when I move back home.

I have TMJ so bad my jaw hurt with shotting pain and it was affecting the back of my neck hurting to turn my head either direction. Starting going to Dr. RISCHER and with her expert knowledge of my problem she has my pain almost completely gone and my terrible neck pain is completely gone. I would refer Dr. Valle Rischer to everyone she's a very caring dentist and her assistant is equally good. So happy and Thankful I found this Dentist to relieve my pain.
