Our Program membership is for 12 months. It includes 2 cleanings and exams with fluoride treatments, a full set of digital dental x-rays, and a yearly oral cancer evaluation. In addition, we offer you 20% off of all of your dental treatments with 10% off of braces/Invisalign, and 50% off of in-office whitening and bleaching trays.
Angela has been in the dental profession for over 15 years. She is a member of the American Association of Dental Managers and is Dr. Detars left hand (she is left-handed after all!). Angela is the building block of our office and her positive attitude and ability to overcome all obstacles make her an invaluable member of our team. She takes continuing education classes to bring the best dental care to our area possible. She fell in love with dentistry as an assistant before taking her place in management. Working alongside Dr. Detar to bring comfort, compassion, and education to patients while achieving their healthy smiles. She loves to see patients who are apprehensive about coming to the dentist overcome those fears as they spend time with the team gaining their trust knowing they want only the best for them. They are here to truly serve the community. She resides in Spring Mills with her husband and 3 boys. She has 2 grown children and grandchildren. When she is not at the dental office she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Tonya grew up in the pleasant gap area with her parents and 3 older sisters. She is a 2015 graduate of Bellefonte area high school. She also attended the Central Pennsylvania institute of science and technology where she received her Dental assistant, radiology and infectious control certification. She has worked with Dr. Detar since 2015 and has excelled at patient care, orthodontics, and surgery. She is a pleasure to spend time with and Dr. Detar could not get through the day without her. In her free time she likes to spend time with her family and fianc Seth. She enjoys tubing, kayaking, fishing, walking her dogs and of course shopping.
Sierra is our Expanded Functions Dental Assistant and has been in the dental field since 2015. She is a graduate from YTI Career Institute of York in 2020 with her EFDA. Shes a people person who loves working with and getting to know each patient. When she is not assisting Dr. Detar, she enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing and going to the gym.
Alexa is from Bellefonte and is a graduate from CPI for Dental Assisting. You will find her Assisting Dr. Detar and Dr. Swogger in the office.She enjoys spending time with her friends, going to the beach on vacation and Sunday morning Church with her family.
Melinda graduated from McCann School of Business and Technology in 2002 with an associates degree in Business Administration and a Major in Accounting. She has worked in dental insurance and billing for the past 12 years. Melinda is such an invaluable asset to Dr. Detar and our team. Melinda currently resides in Drifting, Pa with her husband Bryan and their two dogs Storm and Gunner. When not working she enjoys hiking, reading, and agility training with her dogs.
Karissa started with our office in 2021 and is from Mohrsville Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Gateway Christian School in 2011. She has previous office experience with scheduling and customer service. Karissa has an older brother, sister, and younger brother. In her free time, she enjoys being outside, hiking and kayaking with her boyfriend. She also likes to spend time with her family and friends.
Ashley has been with Dr Detar since 2013 after she graduated from Harrisburg Area Community College for Dental Hygiene. She enjoys educating patients about their oral care and making them feel comfortable. When she is not in the office, she enjoys spending time with her family husband Christian, 3 children Hannah, Jasper and Gretchen and their 2 dogs Bailey and Reba. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and going to the children' sporting events.
Janelle was raised in Curwensville. She started her education at Penn State Dubois then continued to Fortis Institute of Erie where she received her Associates of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene in 2017. She first became interested in oral health when she began orthodontic treatment at the age of 14. Janelle found that changing her major from occupational therapy to dental hygiene was the best choice she could have made regarding her career path. She is very passionate about dental hygiene and loves helping and educating patients of all ages. Outside of work, Janelle loves to ride four wheelers, go fishing, work out, and spend time with her family, friends, and dogs.
Laura has been with Dr Detar since 2013 when she graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology Dental Hygiene Program. After that she continued her education to receive her Master of Health Science at Lock Haven University in 2017. Laura enjoys meeting and getting to know our patients to help with their oral health. When not working in the office with Dr Detar; Laura enjoys being outside and spending time with family, friends, her dog Shadow and cat Loves.
Jess joined our office in 2021 and has been working in the dental field for 8 years. She is our Sterilization Technician and helps Dr Detar and our Assistants keep our rooms ready for patients. When she's not in our Lab she is enjoying going kayaking and spending time with friends and family. She loves all animals and hopes to make it to the Australia zoo!
Dr. April Detar graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a minor in psychology. She went on to receive a Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2000 where she was an esteemed member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. In 2001 she completed her General Practice Residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2001 she joined Kotary & Kotary P.C. and went onto become a co-owner at Kotary, Detar & Associates until she left the practice in 2017 to follow her dreams of creating a family-oriented, patient focused practice offering comprehensive and caring dentistry.
Dr. Detar enjoys all aspects of dentistry and feels that in order to provide her patients the best possible care, she must pursue continuing education and practice with the most current methodologies. She has had extensive training in both Tip-Edge and Straight Wire Orthodontics. She was certified in 2015 to become a speaker for the International Association of Orthodontics and teaches various techniques to her colleagues. She is also certified in Invisalign and Clear Correct aligner orthodontics. Dr. Detar has had widespread training in Implantology. She received training from many institutions including but not limited to the Bicon Institute of Implantology, the Medical University of South Carolina, and Implant Educators. She places short diameter Bicon, Zimmer, Legacy and MDI small diameter implants. She is a fellow at the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She is certified in oral conscious sedation and also provides Nitrous Oxide Sedation for her patients who are anxious with dental procedures. Dr. Detar is one of the few in this area certified to provide Pinhole connective tissue grafting. Dr. Detar trained under Dr. Chao to master the only graft free, suture free, scalpel free surgery to correct gingival recession and create keratinized tissue. Dr. Detar is a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association , The Academy of General Dentistry, the Centre Dental Society, the International Association for Orthodontics, and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She also participates in a local endodontic study group.
Dr. Detar is passionate about serving in her community. She graduated from Leadership Centre County in 2008, and has given her time to help treat dental patients at Centre Volunteers in Medicine. She has participated in Give Kids a Smile! Day, and she works with the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science in Technology in their mobile dental unit. Dr. Detar took part in a Dental Public Health Delegation to China. She is a member of the Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities Advisory Board in Centre County, helping to review and evaluate MH/ID needs and services to our local community. Both her and her husband are active supporters of Clearwater Conservancy. Dr. Detar also volunteers to mentor future dental students through the Eberly College of Science at Penn State, and is very proud of her mentor student that is beginning dental school fall 2018.
Dr. Detar is married to her husband, Chris Magent, who works as COO at Alvin H. Butz, Inc. Construction Manager. They have two shelites whom they love with all of their hearts, Duke & Daisy. In her free time, she is a member of the Mount Nittany Dog Training Club where she enjoys agility training with her dogs, is continually trying to become better at golf, and pi-yo. Both Dr. Detar and her husband enjoy traveling and try never to return to the same destination, as their goal is to see the world. She and her husband are members of Good Shephard Catholic Church, where she hopes to serve on her first mission trip in the Spring of 2019. She served on her first Misson Trip to Maggoty, Jamaica in the Spring of 2019 where she took out over 100 teeth in just a few days and left many Jamaicans SMILING!
