Dr. Kourtsounis or Dr. K is a pediatric dentist originally from Long Island. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1998. After graduation, he returned to Maryland where his family had moved and was accepted into the top ranked University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2003.
In 2006, Dr. Kourtsounis was accepted into the pediatric dentistry specialty at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City. He served as chief resident and helped author various publications, which appeared in local and nationwide dental journals.
Dr. Kourtsounis has continued to stay on at Mount Sinai as an attending faculty and has dedicated his free time to teaching at the residency and performing dental rehabilitation cases in the operating room under general anesthesia.
Dr. Kourtsounis and his wife have a six-year-old son who is also very interested in becoming a dentist like his dad. He is a diehard Chicago Blackhawks and NHL fan, and a car enthusiast who enjoys racing his car on the weekends

I enjoy taking my kids here. I use to have trouble with other dentist becuase of lack of pacience. The receptionist help me alot with things i might not understand. Recommend dental smiles

Dental Smiles for Kids is a wonderful office with the friendliest and most helpful staff. Kim at the front desk was so sweet and helpful. My children are always so happy here and very comfortable. Its a great experience! Highly recommend :-)

My son had an appt to my knowledge at 12:50 (I was off 10 minutes) my fault. It was actually at 12:40. At exactly 12:40 I get a phone asking if I was there. Literally 2 minutes away was my reply as I was saying "I'm not late yet am I I thought it was 12:50" they hung up on me before I could get the full question out. I showed at 12:50 and they said I was 10 minutes late and the dr. Could not take my son. Meanwhile, he is 3 years old and I was amping up how exciting it is to see a dentist and they totally crushed him by being rude and rejecting his appt. The lady at the desk was so rude and wanted me to show her proof of why I thought it was for 12:50 because "they don't make 12:50 appts" I will never go back and then I have to calm my son down and explain not all dentists are like this. I brought my son here for the first time a few months ago and the hygienist, Stephanie was amazing. The dentist we saw; rushed the whole process, didn't even let my son warm up. You can tell she has no patience for children, esp for their first visit. I had scheduled another appt with a different doctor thinking I would give them another chance. I had to cancel my appt (due to the snow) and called 3 times and left a message, stating if they could call me back to make sure they received the messages and so I can reschedule. Nobody ever called back. I took this as a sign to not go back here.

So the docs and hygienists are great which makes me sad to take my kids somewhere else.. it's unfortunate but not being able to communicate with the front desk staff makes it impossible for me to stay there.. my appt was 2:00 pm, I arrived 10 min late for my appt, so they said I had to wait until 2:30.. I was a little upset about this because it's not me ur making wait it's my children; you're a PEDIATRIC dentist, but I dealt with it because in all fairness I was late .. 2:30 comes around and they call 3 different people in and by 2:45 I walked out.. they were very nasty.. I pulled my kids out of school to end up wasting their time and mine .. and the best part yet, is the fact that they won't see my 3 kids in the same day!!!! What kind of bull is that.. "because of COViD" well I almost lost it when she said this because it makes no sense.. everyone wants to use COViD as an excuse to be lazy, not do their job and be nasty, but it makes NO SENSE! All my kids live in the same freaking house.. so ur making me take off of work for 2days just for the dentist.. insane!!, NASTY!! So upset! A friend referred me to small smiles, and I haven't gone yet but appt is scheduled... at least they will see all 3 of my kids in the same day so seems better already

I went today my 5yr daughter to get filling no asked me to pay EXTRA $100 for drug to numb. no xray she did not tell her she was inject her hid it didn't communicate what the procedure was. The dentist said she had 4 cavities proceed to inject her 3 times with numbing than she FORCED almost bite her lip she was COLD CHOKED W/RUBBER TOOLS without telling her. DRILLED CLEAN Put cap without really educating me. CROWNED WOW want BALLOON NOW NO NEW TOOTHBRUSH GREAT RECEPTIONISTS!!!Asst LOOKED FORCED! BUT THE PLACE LOOK GOOD DONT IT! My son came Before thought nice place so decorative no problems no cavity. Cavity and walls open up crashing down she in so much pain.==========================> Weeks later. Hardly sleeping. Not wanting to eat. Think about this before u make appt on POTION RD IF YA CHILD DONT HAVE PROBLEM YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS PLACE EASY FAST FOOD JOB FOR THEM GO STONY BROOK EMERG DENTIST NOT DRS .GET FACTS... I came here to get braces ! Staff are very friendly especially they have an easy sign in ! You just have to put the first three letters of your name and a photo of you will appear! If you need a translator jo speaks Spanish and can help :)

I LOVE this office! The front desk girls are very kind and friendly! They make it so easy to make an appointment and are very accommodating , they really try their best to get us the soonest appointments and show they care! All the hygienists and doctors are awesome! My children feel very comfortable coming here and I would recommend this office to anyone!

We took our 4 yr old twins for their first dental exam and cleaning. I loved the inviting set up walking into the waiting area. These 2 kiddos are very active, but once they sat in the exam room they were so calm and compliant!! Very happy mommy right here !!(I'm pretty sure it was due to the entire staff being so professional , kind, and patient.)I was amazed with how they interacted with our boys and enjoyed watching them. Both boys handled their cleaning like a pro. (Samantha was our hygienist and was all about kids! Super sweet!) Dr. K was just as nice as well as all the other staff. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a pediatric dentist!
