Dr. Clarizio earned his Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering and Doctor of Dental Surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his hospital-based specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Clarizio has been in private practice in Seacoast New Hampshire since 1986 and currently maintains offices in Portsmouth and Somersworth, New Hampshire. He lectures both nationally and internationally and has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on a variety of dental implant-related subjects.

Dr. Clarizio is more than a renowned Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. During Dr. Clarizios 26-year career he has also used and developed numerous surgical instruments designed to minimize trauma and maximize efficiency for oral and maxillofacial surgery, he has authored numerous articles in medical and dental journals and publications. He also has extensive experience presenting at medical and dental conferences and seminars throughout the country. Below are some highlights of his achievements and contributions to the field.

The inside of the mouth is normally lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is smooth and coral pink in color. Any alteration in this appearance can be a warning sign for a disease process. The most serious of these is oral cancer.

These changes can be detected on the lips, cheeks, palate, and gum tissue around the teeth, tongue, face, and/or neck. Pain does not always occur with pathology and, curiously, is not often associated with oral cancer. However, any patient with facial and/or oral pain without an obvious cause or reason may also be at risk for oral cancer. We recommend performing an oral cancer self-examination monthly and remember that your mouth is one of your bodys most important warning systems.
