Dr. Michael Messina completed his undergraduate studies at St. Josephs College in New York. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1989. Dr. Messina has completed advanced training for the diagnosis and treatment of Occluso-Muscular Dysfunction, as well as Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJD) from the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study and the Piper Institute.
Dr. Messina has served as a Member of the U.S. Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee and is on the U.S. Soccer Federation Medical Advisory Committee. Dr. Messina has been a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry since 1990, earned his fellowship in 2001, and served on the Board of Directors for the Academy from 2000 to 2003. In 1999, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association. He also was voted top rated dentist in the Washington Checkbook magazine and recently mentioned by Washingtonian Magazine as one of the Top Dentists in the Washington Metro Area, as selected by his peers.
Our doctors have extensive training and experience in providing a variety of dental services in family general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, crown and bridge restorations, implant-based restorative treatment, temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD), oral sedation, Invisalign, sleep apnea appliances, oral surgery and sports dentistry. We also have Board Certified Endodontists on our staff to provide root canal treatment. Our experienced Registered Dental Hygienists are trained in treating periodontal disease as part of our soft tissue management program. And our dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties, and often work chair-side as dentists examine and treat patients.

Dr. Emilio Canal, Jr. completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Miami, Florida. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1990, where he received Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society Award for Excellence in Clinical Achievement.
Dr. Canal has served as member of the U.S. Lacrosse Sports and Safety Committee and is on the U.S. Soccer Federation Medical Advisory Committee. He is a Fellow of the Academy for Sports Dentistry and was elected President of the Academy in 1999 and 2009. Dr. Canal also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association in 1999. He has been voted Top Dentist in Washingtonian Magazine, Washington Checkbook Magazine, Virginia Living Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine.
Dr. Anthony Moawad received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from Saint Joseph University in 2005. He then graduated with High Honors from Boston University as a Doctor in Dental Medicine in 2008. He was awarded the Quintessence Award for Clinical Achievement in Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Moawad has completed advanced training in Cosmetic Dentistry, Implantology, Sedation Dentistry, TMD, Laser Dentistry, Sleep Apnea and Invisalign. He received his Fellowship Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2015.

This was my first appointment at Dental Group at Reston Station, as I recently moved to the area. I was truly impressed, it is excellent in every way. From the moment you walk in the beautiful office and are greeted by the front desk staff, all extremely professional and helpful, you know you are in good hands. I saw Dr. Canal, for an initial check up. He has a warm and friendly bed side manner, made me feel extremely comfortable. He also took the time to explain everything in great detail and answered all my questions. He is the dentist everyone would wish to find: kind, thorough, extremely knowledgeable and professional. I am so happy I found this practice and highly recommend it.

This is hands down the best dental practice I've ever visited. I personally use Dr. Colomo. He is professional, kind, and clearly well-versed in his specialty. All other members of the practice have been great too. I came here after 10 years of not visiting a dentist because I was basically afraid of another terrible experience. Great experience here. I wish I could take them back to Florida with me!

This excellent group of Dentists and staff offer exemplary care to their patients. Appointments are consistently on time, The facility is well situated with ample parking. Dr Messina in particular is proficient and compassionate. The exam and X-ray areas are well equipped with state of the art instruments and offer on site procedures without moving from room to room. Casey, a kind and thorough detail hygienist, makes the cleanings pleasant. I would recommend this practice over all dental practices I have encountered.

This dental practice is second to none. Excellence is in everything they do. Dr. Messina has been my dentist for three decades snd his care is outstanding; as well as being considerate, creative and well thought out. He's brilliant!
