Welcome! Youre probably reading this because you want to get an idea of who I am, and whether or not you should trust me to be your dentist. Thats totally fair, and I would advise all of my friends and family to have the same level of diligence youre doing when choosing a health-care provider.
Im absolutely grateful to be doing something I love. Remember when you were 10 and had to write that essay on what you wanted to be when you grew up? WellI wrote down DENTIST. No joke, Ive wanted to work on teeth for as long as I can remember. So without sounding like too cliche, this isnt just a career, it really is a true passion of mine.
Im grateful to my parents, who may have not had the financial means to support me through school, but had enough confidence in me to co-sign on the absurdly expensive student loan at NYU that Im still paying for.
Im grateful for my family for helping me keep it together, because its not easy being a working Mom. According to my kids, Im the absolute best dentist in San Diego, and it makes me extremely happy that they want to follow in my footsteps and eventually take over the office. Ill do whatever I can to help them follow their dreams.
My name is Mimi Tran and I am a San Diego native, originally from Mira Mesa. I received my bachelor's degree at UCSD and went to dental school at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. As a general dentist, I keep up with the newest advances in my field in order to provide the best care possible. I believe in building meaningful relationships with my patients and empowering them through oral health education.
I am passionate about community service and giving back to those around me. Each year I volunteer at events sponsored by the California Dental Association where I provide dental services to the underserved. Abroad, I had the wonderful experience in 2013 to serve the rural people of Jamaica through a humanitarian mission trip.
My interests include yoga, baking, camping and traveling the world with my husband who is a practicing pediatrician. Some of my favorite destinations include Thailand, Japan and Yosemite National Park.
We have quite the team here at Dental Design SD, and we're here to bring you the best possible dental experience. We know that going to the dentist is never fun...but if we can make a not-so-fun experience tolerable, then we've done our job :) Check out our Instagram page to get to know us!

I am a new patient of Dental Design and must say I'm very impressed. From the friendly and helpful front office staff to the dental assistants, hygienist and dentist, everyone is very professional. I met Dr. Lillian Wang yesterday and she was very helpful by explaining everything she was doing before she did any procedure so as to alleviate any concerns I may have had. The office itself is very clean and well equipped with modern equipment.

This place is a drive for me but it continues to be worth it. They were very friendly and did a through job. Wish the TMJ was covered by my insurance but at least I get good regular dental services.

I am so happy I switched to dental design. I was a little reluctant to go to the dentist because I had not been for a couple of years while I was dealing with a major illness. I walked in embarrassed that I had not been taking care of my teeth, but they made me feel so comfortable and were genuinely empathetic. The hygienist did an amazing job cleaning my teeth, and she made sure I was comfortable the entire time. Dr. Wang spent a lot of time examining me, and she answered all of my questions. I have another follow appointment for my TMJ, I am so happy I found them. Highly recommend.

Dr. Wang and the entire staff was excellent! Everyone made me feel at ease and comfortable. And as a big plus (aside from the thoroughly explained and planned dental care) if you have qualms about going to the dentist with the current pandemic happening, this place is where you should go - loove how they have air filters everywhere!

Horrible experience. My case of TMJ was not severe to have 30 units of botox each side. I have extreme cheek bone pain and neck pain and my pain is overwhelmed and it has been increased 10 times worse. I told Dr. Agatep that I am sensitive and I need less units but she did not listen just because they wanted to charge me more and also I have paid $50 dollar in advance and once I told them, they were like mmmmmm we cannot find it. Then I needed to screen shot the $50 dollar and send it to them for reimbursement. Why should I lie for $50 ??? What a horrible experience!!!!! Please do not go there. Extreme pain with waste of money and disreptful attitude!!!

I have a very long-standing and serious case of tmj. Multiple doctors and dentists, acupuncturists etc were unable to touch it. It is still in process, but Dr Agastep has changed the game for me. I no longer have to hold on to my jaw just to speak, I have very little pain, comparatively speaking, my headaches are gone. I am so grateful.

I'd been going to Mesa dental for 5 years and when I had to go on a road for an implant I started looking for a really good one. I found Dental Design. Visited just for a second opinion but I liked the dentist and everyone else!! So far I got one extraction for implant and one crown done. (Few more jobs to go) Dr. Tran is so thorough and kind. You never fee the rush they'll you experience in doctors office. More importantly, my experience for extraction-I'm in my late 40, female- was like even half of what I was worried. It took only 10 min and not much push or pull. Numbing was probably the best of what I had experienced before in other dentists, like 30 times. Eric was also the kindest receptionist I've ever met in doctor's office. I'm a curious one. I asked him multiple questions about the pricing and procedures. Everyone else have left and it was only me and him yet he was very patient with me and answered all my questions. Liz, the assistant is a born carer. She soothes me in case I get nervous and also patient with me all along. Embarrassed to say but I still ccan't fall asleep at night before dentist visit. After several visits to Dental Design, FINALLY I can go to bed without worrying sick before visit. :) thank you all of the team there! I strongly recommend

I had my first visit and everyone was very nice and professional. The office was very clean and I felt like I had a thorough check up and cleaning while feeling comfortable. The dentist was upfront and walked me through the whole appointment. I feel like she did a great job pointing out areas where I could improve my dental hygiene and what my next step and future steps could be. I didn't feel judged or shamed for not flossing as much as I should or waiting too long between cleanings. The staff was super nice and I felt my comfort was very important to them. I also appreciated that I was able to sit and go over possible procedure costs with my insurance information so I could plan ahead as needed. While I have always hated the whole dentist experience, I felt like the whole appointment was well thought out and my comfort was a priority to everyone I interacted with. I have been to dentist in the past where I felt like it was an assembly line situation and I appreciated the individualized experience at Dental Design SD. I have my next appointment already schedule and will be back.

Friendly and competent staff. Cleanings are comfortable and effective, my hygenist is always looking out for me. Also have had some fillings over the last seven years with no issues, the dentists are top notch. Highly recommend.

Dr Agatep is awesome! As is the rest of the staff. I made an appointment for Botox treatment for TMJ, but it was going to be like a month out. I called back because the pain was getting to be excruciating. I have a pretty severe case of TMJ that's really wreaked havoc on my life. Agonizing pain and I've had to miss work numerous times because of it. Dr. Agatep's nurse called to let me know there had been a cancellation and they got me in early. Dr Agatep and her nurse took an excellent history, and Dr. A examined me and actually felt my face while I opened and closed my mouth to feel how my jaw joint was tracking. She took the time to explain the science behind why I'm in so much pain, and even was able to explain some symptoms- like tingling in my fingertips- were actually caused by the TMJ. She then explained my options for treatment. I was thrilled to find out she could help heal my jaw using oral prostheses to help correct the bite. This is awesome! No one ever told me that there was a way to possibly cure this condition without surgery. I chose to have Botox until I can afford to begin the non-surgical treatment. The Botox was expensive (she initially used 30 units per side for 60 units total, $15 each for a total of $900), especially since it was not covered by insurance. I was able to use my FSA account though. However, this price was in line with prices I have been charged elsewhere in other states. Except those providers only used 15 units per side and that didn't help me fully. BUT, it's now been 2ish weeks since my injections and y'all: I CAN SLEEP WITHOUT MY NIGHT GUARDS! It's been literal years since I could do this. I didn't realize how much of a joy it is to sleep unassisted and not wake up in excruciating pain every day. Dr. A told me to compare selfies from before/after Botox because I'd be able to see how swollen and puffy my face was due to the trauma of the constant bruxing. Well I kind of forgot about this until comparing my face today with my work ID badge picture. The badge pic was only taken about 8 weeks ago and I've not lost any significant amount of weight and the difference between the two pics is astonishing. I feel like myself again! Very much looking forward to beginning the TMJ treatment. I would recommend this dental practice to anyone, but ESPECIALLY those suffering with TMJ like myself.
