Dental Center of the Carolinas - General dentist in Winston Salem, NC

After graduating from Howard University in 1983, Dr. Kelly accepted a position working with one of his former professors and also worked at the University as an Academic Reinforcement Instructor. Dr. Kelly realized that this was not the career path that he wished to follow so he moved back to Los Angeles, California to establish his practice. While waiting to pass the board examination Dr. Kelly worked at Southern California Edison Company as a Medical Analyst. This allowed Dr. Kelly to negotiate health care contracts and it also gave Dr. Kelly the opportunity to conduct health care seminars for the employees of the company.

Shortly after becoming Board Certified, Dr. Kelly joined a group practice, which allowed him to gain invaluable experience in the various dental disciplines. Dr. Kelly eventually opened his own practice, which proved to be a great move, and eventually opened a second satellite practice in Playa Del Rey, California, which is one of Southern Californias more affluent neighborhoods. This practice immediately excelled and became the primary practice until he moved to North Carolina. The move to North Carolina was spawned by an offer that would allow him and his family to live in a more peaceful, and intimate environment. It also afforded him the opportunity to move into the type of Dentistry he had long envisioned, Oral Implantology, continuing Family & Cosmetic Dentistry. Due to Dr. Kellys love for the science of dentistry, this seemed the ultimate road to travel.

Since arriving in North Carolina Dr. Kelly has served as a Deputy Examiner for the North Carolina Sate Board of Dental Examiners. Also Dr. Kelly donates several hours of his time per month to free dental clinics in the Piedmont Triad Area. Dr. Kelly is an active member of the Forsyth County Dental Society, The American Dental Association, The North Carolina Dental Society, The Piedmont Society of Advanced Dental Studies, International Congress of Oral Implantology, Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and an a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. Dr. Kelly has served as an examiner for the American Board of Oral Implantology and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Dr. Kelly is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Dr. Kelly is an avid learner and strives to stay well informed of all new techniques and developments in his beloved profession.

Dental Center of the Carolinas - General dentist in Winston Salem, NC

The team at Dental Center of the Carolinas believe in the importance of preventative care. We focus on keeping patients in good oral health so that they can live a full, healthy, and enjoyable life that is free from oral pain. This starts by educating our patients on what they can do to stay healthy at home. In our family dentist office we recommend that patients eat a healthy diet that consists of green leafy vegetables, lean protein, nuts, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and veggies. Eating these foods along with drinking water can help to keep teeth healthy and make them stronger. By simultaneously reducing sugar intake, patients can also reduce their risk of cavities.

It is also important to brush and floss throughout the day. Instead of waiting for bedtime to brush teeth, carry a small toothbrush and use it after meals and snacks. This makes it possible to remove sugar and bacteria from the teeth and gums before it has the opportunity to turn into acid that can attack the teeth. This preventative step can greatly reduce a persons' risk of getting a cavity or gum disease. We understand the importance of taking these steps at home and will spend the time necessary to educate and inform patients so that they can stay healthy overall. Education, after all, is essential for living a long and healthy life.

Understanding the importance of these regular dental exams, the staff at Dental Center of the Carolinas work to make each patient extremely comfortable. This includes being welcoming and kind while performing dental treatments in a way that is painless and relaxing. Patients visit our dentist office because they trust us to do just that take care of their teeth and gums, gently. The majority of our patients are local and come from the greater Winston-Salem area, we also see patients that are looking for gentle dental care.

Seniors, on the other hand, often struggle with gum disease and oral infections. As people age, their teeth can become weaker and infected more easily. Bone loss is incredibly common with seniors and by conducting regular dental exams, the team at Dental Center of the Carolinas can help seniors to have strong teeth and reduce the risk of them falling out. Since over seventy percent of U.S. adults suffer from tooth loss, preventative care is important.

A. Primary, or 'baby,' teeth are important for many reasons. Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to come in.

A. First, rinse the irritated area with warm salt water and place a cold compress on the face if it is swollen. Give the child acetaminophen for any pain, rather than placing aspirin on the teeth or gums. Finally, see a dentist as soon as possible.

A. Sealants work by filling in the crevasses on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This shuts out food particles that could get caught in the teeth, causing cavities. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

A. Have your family dentist evaluate the fluoride level of your child's primary source of drinking water. If your child is not getting enough fluoride internally through water (especially if the fluoride level is deficient or if your child drinks bottled water without fluoride), then we may prescribe fluoride supplements.

A. Soft plastic mouthguards can be used to protect teeth, lips, cheeks and gums from sport related injuries. A custom-fitted mouthguard will protect your teeth from injuries and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

A. There is very little risk in dental X-rays. Family dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which you and your family are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation. Digital x-rays provide an even greater level of protection by using up to 90 percent less radiation.

For many people, dentures are an integral part of their daily lives, and their oral health can be very different when they have them in than when they dont. Thats why taking care of your false teeth and maintaining excellent oral hygiene with or without them are key to improving your overall health and well-being

Many individuals are familiar with gum disease. What may be unknown, however, is the relationship of diabetes to problems with the gums. Diabetes is the result of multiple diseases within the body that accumulate from too much sugar in the bloodstream. Sugar often becomes the culprit that is responsible for an individual's gum disease. Continue

Over time, dentures can become worn or damaged, resulting in a need for denture repair. While dentures are meant to be a permanent solution, they do experience wear and tear. Additionally, unforeseeable accidents can happen. Whether dentures are broken or simply worn, it may be necessary to undergo a denture repair, which may consist of

This place don't wait until you can call them back. I got a call at 1230 p.m. for an earlier appointment to do my surgery tomorrow morning at 9 a.m and called back when I got of work at 230 and it was already taken. People do work and it's wasn't right for them to wait until I returned the call. I am very upset because now I have to wait until October 18th. They need to give patients more time to respond. I have called a few times to get an earlier appointment and was placed on a call list. This is very unfair.

A native of the Triad area returned for retirement to learn that my dentist had proceeded me in retirement. After trying two local dentists in hopes of finding one who was of the highest quality and reasonably priced and being disappointed, Dr. Kelly was recommended by a friend. My first visit was outstanding! Although the visit was somewhat longer than usual I was very impressed by Dr. Kelly and every staff member I met. From the two ladies in reception, the x-ray technical, and the financial consultant among others, Dr. Kelly seems to surrounded himself with courteous, professionals. I actually look forward to my next visit and would recommend Dr. Kelly and his staff to all.

The Dental Center of the Carolinas has given me hope again that there are doctors that care for their patients! Since I found them last year they have helped me get my teeth fixed & improved. The lady that cleans my teeth is the sweetest lady I have ever met in my life & Dr. Kelly is the best! He has a wonderful personality & he knows what he is doing & how to help fix any problems you may have with your teeth. Plus the front end staff is great & always nice. I just wish I found this practice earlier!!! If I could I would leave them with more stars on my review~

I have had a very poor (and I am using that word lightly) experience with Dr. Kelly's Office. I would suggest to anyone thinking about having dental implants to go to another dental office. I had my implants done over a year ago and had to go to another dental office (who I am very happy with) to have the proper dentures made and to make me feel like I mattered as a patient and a person.

The wait time is outrageous every single time I come here. It's very disorganized and makes me uncomfortable about what else could be going on behind the scenes. It's impossible to get in touch with someone over the phone as well.

I wish I could give this place no stars or negative stars. If you are a woman of color and educated, I suggest you do not go to this dentist. They will try everything in the book to trick you into paying more money than you should. I have been there 3 times for appointments.. always leaving without any procedure done because of my insurance they say. It's unprofessional, office staff very loud, whispering amongst themselves about patients. I had prepaid my visit and when I told her I did not like this place and wanted to go to another dentist, she said she would try to get my money back. I told her try, no she would. While writing this review, I was notified I would receive partial payment, but not all as she stated. So I will continue to pursue my money , mainly because it's the right thing to do. Dr Kelly and staff, you all should be ashamed of yourselves of how you treat women. It seems this is an office that only serves men, due to the flirting of the ladies especially around my son. My son likes going there, and I pray that you will treat and care for him the right way with his dental procedures. My son is a grown man, and my horrific experience should have no bearing of the dental treatment of my son. His treatment needs to continue to be A plus care. I hope you will stop this travesty of trying to trick people out of their money. I want the rest of the money I was told I would receive from prepayment. I will never prepay forget a service(s) I never received.

After being with this practice about 10 months, we are still finding Dr. Kelly to be exceptional. However, the office staff are not very responsive. It is hard to get a callback or a live person on the phone when calling for information. Disappointing because Dr. Kelly is top notch , but his office staff needs better management. The staff here are very kind and efficient, they know their jobs well. Dr.. Kelly was able to offer a treatment plan for my wife that no other oral surgeon has been able to offer. His depth of knowledge and experience are both far and above expectations. Dr. Kelly is clear and honest in his suggestions. I am grateful that we found this office.

Dr. Kelly's staff are friendly and care about their patients needs. Dr. Kelly seems very knowledgeable and communicates well with his patients and what their immediate needs are and what should be addressed after restoration work is complete. I chose to utilize their services and will update after restorations are complete as to my satisfaction with my implants. 11/29/21 After many months and a redo on one of the three implants I had to have done, my new teeth have been ordered and should be in mid January '22. This last visit was a bit more than I expected for sure but everything went well. I am really looking forward to seeing the end results.
