Native to Astoria, OR, Alan Neal, DMD, hopes to be a great local hometown dentist to his patients. He hopes to able to answer any questions concerning teeth and smiles. Dr. Neal's ultimate professional goal is to own a dental office where he can grow his clinical skills and continue to provide quality care using the latest trends in dentistry.
Dr. Neal's vision of Dental Care of Canby is to provide gentle and personalized care; to be current in the latest 21st Century dentistry trends; to be committed to the community; and to provide treatment plans conservatively, within the means of the patient's budget.
Dr. Neal graduated from Eastern Oregon University with a Bachelor's degree in biology. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine under the USAF Health Professions Scholarship. After receiving his doctorate in 2003, he went to his first assignment at Shaw AFB in South Carolina to meet his future wife, Lisa.
While in the South, for the first time for Dr. Neal, he learned about Southern Cuisine and spent the first two months attempting to say, 'y 'all,' correctly! He continued training with a one year post-graduate Advanced Education General Dentistry assignment at Barksdale AFB, Louisana. This assignment covered a large spectrum of dental specialties.
While on active duty, Dr. Neal participated in humanitarian missions to Honduras, Dominican Republic, Thailand and at home in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He achieved the rank of major, two Air Force Commendation medals, and the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.
Since earning his doctorate in 2003, Dr. Neal continues his education with over 100 Continuing Education credits per year. He earned a Fellowship in the American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), in July 2008, which is an honor bestowed to only 2% of all dentists.
Together, Dr. Neal and Lisa bought the Dental Care of Canby practice to settle in a nice community, and be near their parents and extended family. Dr. Neal and Lisa's hobbies include: travel, hiking, reading, photography, Project Life, growing the meanest, greenest lawn in their neighborhood, and going to as many beautiful Oregon State Parks as possible.
