Dental implants can be an ideal solution to replacing damaged or missing teeth. They can restore not only the functionality of teeth but can provide a great new look as well. Dental implants are a standard cosmetic dental option offered at Dennis Baik, DDS.

People tend to assume that the gap left behind after losing a permanent adult tooth can remain empty. The reality is that an exposed tooth socket faces the risk of infection, can cause teeth to shift out of alignment, and can cause other issues as well. With a dental implant, we can help patients avoid those oral health issues We have the tools and skills necessary to provide patients with a customized dental implant to meet their specific needs.

Dental implants can even help prevent facial structure from changing, providing the functionality needed to perform the same as before the original tooth was damaged. Supplementing them with a dental crown can also ensure that the dental implant looks perfectly natural along with your other teeth.

Once you are cleared for the procedure, the staff at Dennis Baik, DDS will take an impression of your mouth to create a new tooth in a dental lab. Each synthetic tooth will match the size and shape of the surrounding teeth, along with having a perfect color match. This way your smile will appear completely natural once we complete the procedure. Many patients are satisfied with the results since no one can tell the difference between which teeth are real and which ones are synthetic.

Teeth restored with implants will not get cavities. A replacement tooth, or crown, does not decay like a natural tooth. However, you still need to brush, floss and care for it and your surrounding natural teeth in the same manner as natural teeth. Regular professional cleanings and dental checkups are also essential.

The next step in the procedure is to implant a metal post under the gum line. This aspect of the procedure is what sets an implant apart from other forms of cosmetic dentistry. The metal post is secured to the jawbone in order to create a durable, synthetic root system that rivals the strength of natural roots; with one exception that the metal cannot face infection. Over the course of a couple of months, the metal post and jawbone will fuse together. This creates a level of durability that cannot be replicated in other types of procedures.

Afterward, we will secure the new synthetic tooth to the metal post at the surface of the gums. The new tooth is attached so securely, that patients can eat their favorite foods, maintain an active lifestyle, play sports, and more, without fear of their tooth becoming loose or falling out. Patients can enjoy the benefits that come from never having to worry about their tooth again.

The team at Dennis Baik, DDS provide dental implants in a way that is comfortable and functional. We take the time to make sure that every aspect of the procedure is completed correctly the first time.

Once implants have been installed, they are extremely easy to care for. We hear patients throughout San Jose ask questions that range from 'Do implants come out' to 'How do I brush my teeth'. Fortunately, the answers are not as complex as some people might believe. Since we install dental implants by creating a synthetic root system, they are durable and secure. The dental implants will not fall out or become loose. This means you can go play basketball, run in a 10k marathon, and wrestle with your kids without worrying about your tooth coming out.

In order to care for your implants, we advise patients to brush and floss their teeth throughout the day like normal. Additionally, it is important to schedule dental exams and cleanings with Dr. Baik at least twice a year. The staff at Dennis Baik, DDS will help to clean your teeth and ensure that they stay healthy. While dental implants cannot become infected themselves, the teeth around them can. If, in the future, you suffer from a severe case of gum disease or a dental abscess, the infection can spread into your jawbone. This puts your implants in jeopardy because in order to stay secure, the jawbone must be in good health. If it becomes infected, your dental implants and all of your teeth will be in jeopardy.

A. Generally, this is not a good idea. We find that it is generally much better not to attach implants to teeth. We frequently attach implants to each other, which can improve strength and works well. So in a case like this, although it may be more expensive in the short term to place two implants instead of one, the long-term success is likely to be much better with the two implants.

Q. I lost my upper back teeth on one side and have gone for years without doing anything about it. My sinuses always seem to bother me more on that side than on the side that I have back teeth. Could these problems be related to one another?

A. In a large majority of people who are missing their upper back teeth for a long period of time, is the increasing downward growth of the maxillary sinus. At birth, it is the size of a pea and progressively grows as the skull matures. This growth is at the expense of the surrounding bone. If you are considering replacing those upper back teeth with fixed teeth that stay in all the time, it may be necessary to perform a sinus elevation procedure to allow room for placement of dental implants into this area to support those teeth. This involves placement of bone and/or bone substitutes into an area which was previously occupied by the lower part of the maxillary sinus. Most importantly, this procedure increases the available bone use to place implants and restore the missing back teeth.

A. In most cases, with the new options available today in the field of dental implants, some form of treatment is possible. We encourage people to get help as soon as possible if they are already having some problems with their current situation. These problems include excessive use of denture adhesives, chewing only soft food, unable to taste some foods, constant mouth sores, unhappy with the appearance of one's teeth and bite position (in some cases the nose and chin getting closer together). The sooner we correct the problems with dental implants, the more choices one has available for treatment. If you have any or all of the above symptoms, implants can very well be the answer for you.

A. It is not necessary to have an implant for every tooth that is being replaced. The number of implants necessary to provide support depends on the type of implants used and the type of teeth (removable vs. non- removable) that will be attached to the implants. A thorough oral exam and panoramic x-ray is all that is necessary in most cases, to determine which implant can be used and how many must be used. Sometimes additional X-rays or CT scans are used in more complicated cases.

Q. I consulted a dentist several years ago about using implants to replace my lower denture and he told me that I did not have adequate bone available to place enough in-the-bone implants without danger of fracturing my now fragile jawbone. Are there any alternatives?

A. Because of the advances in the field of implantology, there are now more choices and techniques. It is rare for a person to not be able to receive an implant or a combination of implants. Today we have available many types of implants designed to accommodate multiple problems.

A. Teeth that have root canals can fracture more easily than other teeth because they are weaker and somewhat dehydrated. They can sometimes be as brittle as glass. In the past, the best available treatment was to remove the tooth and file down the adjacent teeth to make a bridge - caps on the adjacent teeth with an attached 'dummy' tooth between. Sometimes this still is the only way. However, in many cases an implant can replace the fractured tooth and we will not need to grind down a tooth to at all.

General dentistry treats oral health, functional and cosmetic concerns, and it includes teeth replacement with dental implants. Learning more about dental implants, including what it is, how the process works and who it is for, can help you decide if it is the best way for you to replace missing teeth. All general dentists develop their

When a person is missing a tooth or multiple teeth, this creates many issues that impact the look of a smile and the overall dental health. While removable dental appliances are a popular answer for tooth loss, more and more people are turning to dental implants to aid crowns, bridgesanddentures.A cosmetic dentist would like to

A dental implant is an excellent option for long-term tooth replacement, but a common question is how long do dental implants last?Factors that alter how long dental implants are viable depend on the patient's lifestyle and dental hygiene. The technology of dental implants has become so progressive over the years that implant failures due to

Dental implants are the standard treatment procedure for teeth replacement. Implants fuse with the bone to support dentures and crowns. They are small posts made of titanium to substitute the roots of a lost tooth. The dentist performs a minor surgery of inserting the dental implants into the jawbone. After adding the implant into the

A smile makeover involves multiple reconstructive and professional dental procedures to restore and enhance various aspects of the patient's teeth and mouth. Smile makeovers are a commonly offered cosmetic solution provided at Dennis Baik, DDS.

Yellow and stained teeth are a sign of age since teeth are whiter the younger you are. By eating foods that are artificially colored, drinking coffee, tea, wine and smoking teeth can become yellow and severely stained. This will negatively impact your appearance and can even make you look unhealthy. As a result, patients throughout San Jose have their teeth whitened to remove the stains.

When completing a smile makeover, some patients use dental veneers to make their teeth appear larger. Some adults, for example, have teeth that appear too small for their smile and their frame. When this is the case, veneers can be used to elongate the teeth and make them appear more natural. Patients throughout the local area enjoy the results that they receive by using veneers.

When teeth are more severely damaged or broken, a dental crown is often a better solution for transforming its appearance and functionality. A crown can be made in an all-ceramic or all-porcelain material that surrounds the tooth entirely. This improves the appearance of the tooth and strengthens it since when a crown is used, nothing touches the natural tooth. In the past, people may have had dental crowns that were made out of metal. These are functional but are unattractive and make it difficult, if not impossible, for a smile to look natural and healthy. Replacing metal crowns with ceramic ones makes it possible to have the restoration that you need without anyone knowing your tooth had ever been damaged. We can treat patients who want their smile makeover to include getting rid of outdated metal crowns.

Dental crowns can accomplish similar goals to veneers. They can make teeth even, close gaps, cover stains, and restore cracked or chipped teeth. The major difference is that the crown surrounds the entire tooth, so there is additional stability that comes with this procedure.

Our patients trust our team at Dennis Baik, DDS to replace their missing teeth in a way that looks completely natural. Dental implants are an excellent way to restore missing teeth because once the procedure is completed; you can enjoy all of your favorite activities and foods without worrying about the tooth falling out or becoming loose. This is important because, with other procedures like dentures, teeth can get loose while running around or eating lunch with friends. Dental implants are so durable that you will not be able to tell the difference between the implant and natural teeth.

In this procedure, a metal post is implanted under the gums and secured to the jawbone. Over several months, the bone and metal will fuse together in order to create a synthetic root system that is just as strong as a natural root system. Once healed, a new tooth is secured to the metal post for a natural and beautiful looking smile. This procedure is commonly used in smile makeovers because it allows us to replace any teeth that are missing.

Some people may also use dental implants to straighten teeth that are crooked or teeth that are not responding to orthodontics. This is an important part of a smile makeover because if all of your teeth are white and beautiful, but one is severely crooked, your new smile will feel incomplete.

Thinking about what your options are when it comes to improving your smile? Lots of people are getting a smile makeover these days, which is partly due to the fact that there are so many dental treatment options now available for those who are looking to improve their smile. The best staff and my best experience at the dentist ever I found them last year (~Aug 2021) after moving here from New York, with a broken crown that fell apart the week I had to depart I have awful panic attacks and have to be sedated, luckily I found Dr. Baiks office right away! Dr Baik always makes sure to explain to me what he sees in my x-rays, all my options, and his staff clears things financially with me before anything. He always makes sure to check in a week after my sedation appointments to make sure I had been comfortable, explain to me how the procedure went, and recommend changes for my next sedation when necessary. They still take COVID precautions very seriously, as of Nov 2022, so if you are immuno-compromised or putting off dental work out of precaution, this place is a great option to look into. This place feels like home and I can't emphasize that enough! I'm really shy and socially anxious and you wouldn't be able to tell while I'm there because of how comfortable I feel with them. I don't think they would believe that either if they hadn't seen how I get right before going under lol. I'd probably drive at least an hour to continue coming here!! Love you all

I have now been a patient of Dr. Baiks for the last 17 years and I can say every time I've had to visit it's a great experience. I'm always greeted by name and with tons of positive energy. I am very scared of being in the dental chair for any procedure (yes! Even cleanings) but Dr. Baik and his team always make sure I'm doing ok and ready before taking me back. The hygiene team is great, very kind and detailed. Dr. Baik is great, always full of energy and ready to dig into these teeth without a doubt. I love how he really takes his time to explain anything that concerns him. I don't always understand the first time so when I ask he explains again for me without any reluctance. He really re-assures me that things will be ok since I have such a big fear of being in a dental chair. He allows me to take many breaks (TMJ issues) and lets me know throughout the procedure what is going on. Ginger and Eva are awesome as well, very approachable and gentle. When my visit comes to an end and time to pay and reschedule Anabel or Lupe are available to help. They are so patient and helpful to accommodate my crazy schedule. Lupe is very responsive and professional when answering any questions in regards to co-pays and my out of pocket expense. Dr. Baik's practice is very modern, clean and up to date on technology. I love this. Shows he makes an effort to continue his education and keeping his team up to date as well. Overall Dr. Baik is running a great practice from his beautiful clean office to his team and quality of work. I highly recommend Dr. Baik to everyone that asks me what dental office I go to. Once you meet him and his team you wont have any hesitation to become a patient for years to come.

I had hard time finding high caliber dentist/implant specialist in my neighborhood for quite some time. Luckily, I was introduced to Dr. Baik in 2021 and am now truly grateful to Dr. Baik for his very detail-oriented dental care and professionalism provided to me in both 2021/22. He clearly explained to me on what implant/crown treatments will work best and was also very honest about minor mistake found during dental crown procedure and volunteered to change with brand new crown without reservation. I have full confidence anyone getting any type of dental service from this dental office won't regret. His staffs were always very kind also. Highly recommend!!!!!

My kids and I have been going to Dr. Baik for over 10 years now and he and his staff have been wonderful. My wife finally switched over to Dr. Baik a few years ago after her dentist couldn't resolve an ongoing issue with her teeth. Dr. Baik resolved it without any issues... my wife wished she switched over much sooner. Dr. Baik and his staff are very courteous and professional, and I highly recommend him if you are in the market for a new dentist.

Dr. Baik is truly the best. My kids and I have been going to him for several years now and it has been wonderful. My daughter (12yrs) recently had to get two teeth pulled and was incredibly nervous. Dr. Baik walked her through the entire process ahead of time. He showed her the tools that would be used, the noises they would make, and the easy steps of the removal. She felt very safe and didn't feel any pain during the appointment. We always appreciate how caring Dr. Baik and his entire staff are. We are lucky to have found such a wonderful team!

I highly recommend Dr. Baik's office. I've been seeing Dr. Baik since I was a little girl and I'm 34 years old now. He is patient when I'm scared of needles and very thorough, although loud at times. The staff is super welcoming and understanding. The office manager, Lupe, is the best and helpful if you ever have any questions. Dr. Baik did my veneers for my front teeth many years ago and they still look amazing. He has filled cavities over the years and has efficiently addressed all my dental issues.
