He was initially inspired to become a dentist by a family friend who owned a private dental practice. Since Dr. Mathias was drawn to artistic skills that required the use of his hands, he ended up pursuing dentistry as a way to implement these interests with the service of helping better the lives of other people.
Dr. Mathias & his staff are kind, caring and thorough. He takes the time to make sure that his patients understand any procedures and all your options. Everyone in the office is friendly & welcoming, which makes the visit much more pleasant than the typical dentist. They go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied with your smile
Before moving to Florida, Dr. Mathias taught for several years at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry and worked in a large New Jersey clinic setting. During this time he was able to learn exactly where he wanted to go with his private career, focusing on personalized care when he came to DeLand.
Outside of the practice, Dr. Mathias enjoys spending time with his family outdoors. With perfect access to the beach and wonderful weather, he often spends his free time surfing, bicycling, or playing tennis. He is an Eagle Scout and enjoys working with the local Boy Scout troop, while also serving as a committee member.

Dr Mathias and Staff are horrible! The Hygienist has hands like the hulk! Not Gentle at all! Mask Nazis there is no current Mandate, COVID is over and I was yelled at and thrown out of his office in the middle of having thousands of dollars worth of work! I do not recommend going here! Expensive jerks forcing their ideals on you. Thank goodness I was thrown out! Their care plan is just a plan to drain your wallet! They said they don't do financing there. So after being turned away because of a mask! I saved 5000 dollars by going to Universal Smiles. Which financed a Implant for 99.00 a month! Thank God!

I highly recommend Deland Smiles! Best Dental Care In Deland and Volusia County. Ultra clean with State of the art equipment. Following all Covid -19 safety guidelines and protocols. Very friendly, professional and knowledgeable team. First visit, I immediately felt comfortable and knew I was under the best and safest care with Dr Mathias and his amazing team! Bonus...I no longer dread my visits to the dentist!!!

This is a top class facility. All the staff is extremely professional and Dr. Mathias is in a class of his own. He is excellent at what he does, provides you with all the information on what he is going to do and is very caring. I am up in age and have been to several dentist and offices and this by far is the best and Dr. Mathias is #1 in my book. Thank you for providing a great service.

Dr. Mathias is terrific and did a great job on my teeth today! Even though I was nervous, he and his team made me feel as comfortable as possible and it went very well. Office is really nice too. Thanks so much to him and his team :)

The technology is very up-to-date at DeLand Smiles as-is the environment. They advertise themselves as "modern family dentistry" and this is absolutely the case. The assistants I saw (Jennifer and Shawnta) were very personable and capable of answering any questions I had. Dr. Matthias (well-spoken and also personable) took time carefully examining each of my teeth as well as my jaw alignment using various techniques before prescribing a treatment plan. SEVERAL composite resins/fillings later, I am pleased at the five-star-level with DeLand Smiles! Even my cleaning with Julia was efficient and informative. Highly recommended!

Will not go back! I had a cleaning with their new hygienist. Upfront I told asked her to be gentle as I have chronic mouth sores due to dry mouth. She informed me that she would be aggressive if she felt like she to need to. I heard her tell another staff member that she was in a time crunch. She was obviously in a hurry. I felt like I was being manhandled. She was argumentative when I tried to tell her she was being too rough. This is not the first bad experience I've had with the condescending staff who don't seem to get the fact that they are working for the patient, not the other way around. Dr. Mark is okay, but it seems like almost every time I went in, he wanted to do an expensive procedure even though I was not experiencing any problems or pain. And I take very good care of my teeth. The nice, helpful receptionist, Leslie, is about the only good thing I can say about this practice.

I have had some of the best dental care on this planet by various dental services. My days as a child were not the best and caused me to shy away from proper dental checkups until I enlisted into the US Navy. IN the navy I had no choice at avoiding dental checkups and care. The fantastic care I received over many years with the Navy eliminated my fear of going to a dental office. I visited a Deland Florida practice and have been with it now for over 25 years. The practice changed hands during my tenure. I was always happy with this office however The Dr Mathias Dentistry is light years ahead of what I thought was fantastic over the years, His office staff is always so kind and knowledgeable, Dr Mathias is the most kind and gentle Dentist you would ever find. His office is advanced in the newest most technological devices and equipment. During my last visit Dr Mathias said to me "raise your hand if you feel any pain or discomfort". His service is always painless, therefore I wanted to say wake me up when your done. Yes it is that comfortable. IF anyone that reads this is afraid of going to a Dentist because of a past experience or maybe a story someone told this is the office to put all that to rest. Waiting until you are in terrible pain to see a Dentist is just foolish. You can avoid all that pain with Great oral Hygiene and a painless Dental visit.

The DeLand Smiles office is a top-notch state-of-the-art dental office. I have been a patient of theirs for over four years and have never been disappointed. Dr. Mathias and his assistants have always been very thorough with examining and taking care of any problem I have had in the past, whether it was cleaning my teeth, repairing a cavity, root canal, or placing a crown. His up-to-date software program allowed him to draw and design the new crown I needed right there in the office. That meant fewer office visits to complete the process and less amount of time of discomfort. The dental chairs are fully padded with heat and massage which has definitely helped me to relax while getting work done. One of the things I became most impressed with the last time I was there getting my teeth cleaned was how clean they keep their work and lab areas from bacteria entering or forming. They are extremely cautious to avoid contact with germs and bacteria in those areas that could cause illness to their patients or themselves. You'll find Dr. Mathias and his staff to be very personable and your visit a pleasant one.

I went for a cleaning, and even thought I have dental insurance (and cleanings are 100% covered by it) I ended up paying a $80 "deductible" for just a check up, and they wanted me to schedule a second appointment for the cleaning. Receptionist said that they are not one of the providers of my insurance. Why didn't told me when I asked??! Seems like all they care about is charging patients!
