Dr. John Keller is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Dentistry, as well as a member of the American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, and the Indianapolis District Dental Society.
Dr. Keller has a passion for volunteer work. In addition to his work at the Indiana Mission of Mercy and a recent service mission to the Dominican Republic, he also donates time to Chicagos Lincoln Park Zoo, where he performs emergency dental work on animals (lions dont like flossing either). Dr. Keller enjoys meeting new patients as well as seeing the progress of returning patients.
We all have situations that make us anxious. For some, the thought of going to the dentist and having their teeth and gums examined is enough to keep them away from the dentists chair. Dental phobias are more common than you may realize. Roughly 10% of U.S. adults state they avoid going to the dentist due to a dental phobia, whereas nearly 60% report some level of anxiety while undergoing dental procedures. You should not feel embarrassed mentioning that you have dental anxieties. After all, you are among the majority.
Conscious sedation is a technique used in dentistry and other medical practices that helps patients feel at ease in situations where they would normally experience anxiety. The most common form of conscious sedation is a gas known as nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as laughing gas.
After about two minutes of breathing in the nitrous oxide-oxygen mix, you will begin to feel less nervous and more at ease. Some describe feeling tranquil and somewhat euphoric. In addition to being a mild sedative, nitrous oxide also serves as a pain reliever, making it suitable for more invasive forms of dental treatments.
The calming effect of nitrous oxide works by temporarily blocking the GABA(A) (Gamma-aminobutyric acid) receptors. These are the same receptors responsible for feelings of anxiety. Nitrous oxide also temporarily elevates norepinephrine and dopamine (the brain 's 'feel good' chemicals).

Today was my first time visiting the office. Mary the hygienist took EXCELLENT care of me today! The office was friendly & welcoming! Highly recommend seeing Mary for your cleanings! Literally making appointments for my entire family to see her! Honestly, I have found MY hygienist, I'm tellin everyone about her! Its very rare that you meet someone who literally makes you feel like you've know them forever! I dont have enough words to express how knowledgeable she is & the comfort she provides! Love her!

This was our first time to see doctor Keller. I take care of my baby sister who is special needs. Staff members TOTALLY professional and super sweet. The doctor was very helpful and very thorough. He treated her as if she was his sister. Gentle and gracious. Definitely be back in the future.

Went in to get my teeth cleaned ended up needing some cavities filled. They were great about getting me in that same day to fill them. All the staff was so welcoming and did an amazing job at explaining what exactly they were doing.

Wonderful place. Atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. Unique in the sense that the dentist sat and asked about family life (whereas most doctors seem to bounce in and out as quickly as possible). All of the staff is very personable and they take insurance! Moving about 30 minutes away but will 100% make the drive there for my appointments.

I would have to say that this was the best dentist office that I have been at in years.... Amanda did an awesome job at keeping me company and comfortable and actually made me forget what I was at the dentist office for she helped take my mind off of a lot of stuff cuz I was nervous..... But on the other hand Dr Keller did an awesome job work very hard at extracting my tooth if he wasn't a strong man I don't think he would have been able to get it out of there cuz the tooth gave him a good fight.... Overall I recommend this dentist office to anyone, elderly, disabled, an kids.... Job well done Decatur Woods Dental....

I cannot recommend this office enough! Dr. Keller and his group have worked us in THREE times for dental pain in the last week and a half, and we have not waited long (which would have been understood), and he and his staff have excellent bedside manner and skill. Do not hesitate to go here. Really, look at the reviews; all 5 star!

My experience was great! Dr. Keller has the best bedside manner from any doctor that I have ever experienced. The entire staff was friendly and helpful and I am so thankful that they helped me in my time of need. I would highly recommend the entire staff at Decatur Woods Dental.
