Xerostomia, more commonly known as dry mouth, is a condition related to the salivary glands, which help keep the mouth moist, thus preventing decay and other oral health problems. When the salivary glands do not work properly, the amount of saliva in the mouth decreases, resulting in xerostomia. Everyone has a dry mouth once in a while, but if you often find that your mouth is dry, it could be a sign of certain diseases and conditions, according to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

Prescription and over-the-counter medications are the most common cause of dry mouth. There are more than 400 medications that can contribute to mouth dryness, including antihypertensives, antidepressants, painkillers, tranquilizers, diuretics and antihistamines. Dry mouth also can be caused by radiation therapy and chemotherapy, hormonal alterations or other diseases, such as diabetes, lupus, Alzheimers disease and kidney disease. Other contributing factors include stress, anxiety, depression, nutritional deficiencies and dysfunction of the immune system.

Saliva is a natural defense for teeth and is vital to everyday processes such as tasting, swallowing, speaking and digesting. Without it, teeth are vulnerable to tooth decay and bacterial, fungal and viral infections. Human saliva is composed mostly of water, but also includes electrolytes, mucus, antibacterial compounds and various enzymes. The components of saliva play a major role in keeping your mouth healthy by rinsing away food particles, neutralizing harmful acids and providing enzymes to help digest food.

I have been trying to get a hold of this place for a month - they never answer the phone nor return calls from voicemails.

I will likely invite Dr. Shukoor to my wedding. It felt like I was with family every time I visited. Best experience I've ever had at a dentist office. Seriously. Thank you so much for improving my life.

I went to see the Dr Shukoor a month ago and ended up in the hospital with an infection, in the hospital they told me that it had been by some instrument used by the dentist that was not sanitized, I was lucky that the infection was not much greater, this is serious I could have contracted AIDS

Dr. Shakur is either behind on the science or a liar. After expressing concerns about metal fillings, he told me there was no science to support amalgam fillings being bad for health and that the only reason to be concerned is when getting them removed (google it. there are peer-reviewed studies everywhere but I guess they're cheaper so that was the motivation?). First of all, amalgam fillings (that he referred to as "silver" for my comfort) are 50% mercury. MERCURY. In my mouth. And when he removed my prior filling, that was also MERCURY, he used one extra suction tube. No nose cannula so I was smelling and breathing in the toxic fumes. He didn't ask about medical history that would have 100% demanded I get either composite or porcelain fillings. Now, I either have to get them removed (pain, cost, damage to my teeth and lungs) or slowly breathe toxic fumes every time I chew. How is this person still in business???? I'm devastated.

Just had my first appointment here. I love this team. Office smells amazing and clean. Brianna asked what kind of music I wanted to listen to so that I could enjoy some music while getting my teeth cleaned! She was was incredibly nice and super comforting especially because I haven't been to the dentist in so long. Dr. Kambez Shukoor is incredible. Obviously smart but also kind, easy to talk to, honest and pretty funny! Very grateful I found a good team for my teeth!

Dr. Shukoor and his staff were kind and knowledgeable. I had a fairly complex procedure and Dr. Shukoor used the latest techniques and technology to improve the process, and patiently answered my (many) questions along the way. Thanks for the great service!

I had major dental work done by Dr. Shakoor last year, including 12 crowns. Within months, 3 of the crowns fell out while I ate soft food. The third one fell earlier today and I inadvertengly swallowed it, and had to abruptly leave a dinner party. Dr. Shakoor reglued the first one that had fallen out, but for the second one I went to a different dentist because Shakoor's office was closed. That created extra costs. The third crown, right in the front, that has now fallen out will have to be replaced by a new one because I swallowed the one placed by Dr. Shakoor. I don't dare leave for a planned trip for fear that another crown will pop out while I am away from home. I have never had such a disastrous experience with any dentist in my whole life.

Love my experience so far at this dentist office! Dr. Shukoor and his team are truly excellent! A good friend of mine told me about this office and only had great things to say so I knew I had to go for my needs. My first time coming in for an appointment was December 2021 and it really was a wonderful first impression. The office is beautiful and modern plus everyone was so friendly! I come in a couple of times since then and each time has been good. I love the dental hygienist, Adele, who took her time with cleaning my teeth and explained a lot to me about my oral health during the process. She has such a positive spirit just like the rest of the staff here! Thank you all!

Excellent and friendly doctor (Dr. Shukoor) and same goes for all the dental assistants and staff. I've been coming here for a few years (for cleanings and wisdom teeth removal) and I still feel really positively about the office.

Dr. Shukoor has helped me so much. I've been his patient for a couple of years now, and I genuinely trust this man's knowledge and quality of care. When I became one of his new patients at a difficult time (as COVID first appeared), Dr. Shukoor readily stepped in and rescued me from a dental emergency. He's also a terrific listener. If you've ever dealt with a healthcare provider who seemed dismissive, then you already understand the value of connecting with someone who really hears you. He even helped me with a dental implant - which sounds a little scary if you've never needed one before. But the doc was so attentive and caring that the whole procedure went smoothly. I've moved further away from his office, but will gladly navigate through extra traffic to keep him as my 'go to' dental professional!

Fantastic office and staff! Dr. Shukoor is extraordinarily great at what he does!! A friend recommended him to me. So, I drove in for one night just so I can see him. He saw me and my wife, with no appointment delays. He was even able to accommodate same day implant surgery. Today is the next day after surgery and I am driving back to NY (4+ hour drive). I have NOT experience ANY PAIN. Highly recommend!!! You will not be disappointed !! Thank you Dr. Shukoor.
