We pride ourselves in having an efficient office staffed with competent and congenial employees. We attend many continuing education courses both individually and as a group so we can stay on top of the latest information and techniques in dentistry and provide you with the best treatment possible.

Our practice was started in 1950 by Dr. Daviss father and Dr. Nixs grandfather, Dr. Roy G. Davidson, Jr. Following WWII and time as a POW, Dr. Davidson returned to Birmingham and married the beautiful Betty Jo Travis. He had decided during the war that he wanted to attend dental school and completed his undergraduate requirements for dental school at Howard College. At this time, Alabama did not have a dental school, so Dr. Davidson attended the University of Tennessee Dental School in Memphis, TN. Upon graduation, they returned to Birmingham and Dr. Davidson opened his first practice in Edgewood in 1950. He relocated to a new office on Montgomery Highway in Homewood in 1961, where the practice remained until October 2007.

In 1990, Dr. Jennifer Davis joined her father in practice. They practiced together for seven years, and after forty-seven years of practice, Dr. Davidson retired in 1997. Prior to dental school, Dr. Davis was a registered nurse at Childrens Hospital and taught nursing school. Dr. Davis ran a solo practice until June 2007 when her niece, Dr. Melissa Nix joined her. They relocated to a new office in October 2007 located at 2828 Central Avenue, Homewood, Alabama.

Drs. Davis and Nix follow the same method of practicing dentistry that was established by Dr. Davidson which is to use the golden rule. We strive to treat each patient the way we would want to be treated if we were the patient instead of the dentist. We want to provide the best possible service to every patient and never sacrifice quality for any circumstance.

Dr. Davis graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1990. She is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. She earned her undergraduate degree from UAB. Prior to dental school, Dr. Davis was a registered nurse at Childrens Hospital for eight years. She earned her Masters Degree in Nursing and taught nursing school for two years. She has been married to her husband, Jim, since 1976. They have two children, Beth and Katie. They are active members at St. Marys-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church and members of Friends of Old Time Music and Dance (FOOT MAD). Dr. Davis is a Rotarian and is active in local, state and national dental organizations. She is the past-president of the Birmingham District Dental Society and was the first female Speaker of the House for the Alabama Dental Association. She enjoys contra dancing, yoga, cultural events, and life in general. Dr. Davis volunteers dental services for Donated Dental Services, which serves disabled, elderly, and medically compromised individuals.

Dr. Nix graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2007. She is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. She graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a bachelor of science degree in Biology/Psychology. She has been married to her husband, Chris, since 2006. Dr. Nix is a member of Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church. She enjoys cooking, jogging and exercising, and traveling . She proofs dental articles for Oakstone Publishing. Dr. Nix is a member of Birmingham District Dental Society, the Alabama Dental Association, the American Dental Association. She serves on the executive council of the Birmingham District Dental Society, the Council on Strategic Planning and Leadership Development for the Alabama Dental Association and is co-chairman of the Alabama Dental Association Council for the New Dentist. Dr. Nix volunteers dental services for Donated Dental Services, which serves disabled, elderly, and medically compromised individuals.

Jane has been a hygienist since 1983 and was trained by her father, Dr. Floyd Worsham, in Anniston. Jane joined our practice in January 2007. Jane has a daughter, Stephanie, and a son, Alan. Stephanie is married and has a son and a daughter. Alan is married and has two girls. She enjoys knitting, reading, and playing with her grandchildren. Patients love Janes warm personality and her individualization of their treatment.

Pam has been a hygienist since 1990 and has worked in Dr. Davis practice since 2001. She received her hygiene degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is married and has a daughter, Cameron, who was born in 2001. Pam enjoys art, music, flower gardening, history, football, and volunteering at her daughters school. Patients enjoy Pams sweet nature and compassionate spirit.

Karen is Dr. Daviss dental assistant. She has worked with Dr. Davis since February 2000. She has been married to her husband, Kent, since 1996. She enjoys talking with patients and loves to cook. She and Kent enjoy traveling. Karen loves Alabama football.

Tammy is our financial coordinator. She can assist you with financial questions and dental insurance. Tammy has worked with medical and dental insurance and billing since 1996 and has been employed with Dr. Davis since September 2006. She is married and has a son, Keylon, who got married in 2012. Tammy enjoys traveling, riding motorcycles and tailgating in Tuscaloosa.

Sarah joined our practice as a dental hygienist after her graduation from the University of Georgia in 2010 and the Medical College of Georgia in 2012. Sarah married her husband, Alex, in June 2012. She enjoys disc golf, cooking and the beach. Patients enjoy Sarahs delightful sense of humor and painless dental cleanings.

Nicole has been Dr. Nixs dental assistant since 2011. She is engaged to be married this summer. Nicole has two dogs with which she enjoys spending time. Nicole plans on training to become a hygienist. She enjoys being outside, reality television and spending time with friends and family.
