The family history dates back to James Zachary who practiced dentistryafter the Civil War in the 1860s. His second child, Daisy was born in 1880.She apprenticed with her father to be a dentist until theNorth Carolina Dental Board was founded.TheBoardrequiredher to go to dental school and be licensed. In 1908 Daisy McGuire was the first woman licensed to practice dentistry in North Carolina. During this period, she married Wayne McGuire of the Norton Community in Jackson County, NC. She foundmore dentistry to do in Sylva than she could handle, therefore sent Wayne to dental school. He graduated in 1911. The couple raised three daughters: Noracella, Patsy, and Kitty Dean. All three became dentists. Noracella returned to Sylva and married Tom Wilson who became a dental technician. Patsy sat next to Harold McGuire in dental school.They married in 1937. Therefore the name continued. Harold and Patsy graduatedfirst and third respectively in their classes. The couple returned to Sylva to work in the office with Daisy, Wayne, Noracella and Tom as their technician. Kitty Dean met Bob Gamewell in dental school and married. Their practice was in Murfreesboro, TN. Dr. Daisy retired in 1977 at the age of 97. She was the nations oldest practicing dentist.
Dr. David McGuire became interested in dentistry after growing up in a family of many dentists. He graduated from Pfeiffer College and The University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. He enjoys meeting new patients and getting to know them and their families. Dr. David takes every opportunity to attend continuing educations courses to learn new treatments and follow new advances in dentistry. He is member of the North Carolina Dental Society, American Dental Association, Pankey Alumni Association, Academy of General Dentistry and Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and board member of the Jackson County Health Department. He is a member of First United Methodist Church and holds several church administrative positions. He assists and volunteers with several community organizations throughout the year. He loves the outdoors and spends time hiking with his dogs, camping, organic gardening and spending time with his wife Kathy and their grandchildren.

At 67 yrs old, I had a tremendous amount of dental work needed. Dr. McGuire and staff took a caring approach towards my dental health. Other dentist have always wanted to do a 'patch job'. I trust this practice as none other. PS....probably the most beautiful dentist office in the USA

The difference is night and day from the last dentist I had. They never informed me on how to take care of my teeth. They were so informative and knowledgeable. It will probably end up saving my teeth so I can enjoy them later in life. They do a very thorough examination to find all the issues and lay out a plan to correct your issues.

My husband and I were new to Franklin, NC and needed a new dentist, since my old dentist was in FL. One thing led to another and we ended up at Dr. David McGuire's office. We are both retired, but my husband is the pastor of Burningtown Baptist Church in Franklin. My previous profession is a dental Hygienist/ instructor. I was a clinical dental Hygienist for 28 years and a dental Hygienist/assistant instructor for 15 years. You can say that I am pretty knowledgeable in dentistry and very particular with who cares for my teeth and my husband's teeth. Dr. McGuire is the gentlest and the most professional dentist I've ever met. He is very thorough in his exams and his dental work is impeccable. I needed some dental work, and all I had to do was review my own X-rays to know he was so right in his diagnosis. My husband and I will continue to have this dentist and his professional staff to take care of our teeth!

No one likes getting their teeth worked on, but I can't imagine a kinder, more gentle and supportive place to do it than at Dr. McGuire's office. I highly recommend this practice. They're good and incredibly competent folks-all of them!

Dr McGuire is the best dentist I have ever been to and I am a person who has been obsessed with her teeth all my life. I have lived all around the east from NY to Fl and every time I move, the first thing I do is get a dentist. He's fabulous.

Dr McGuire is the best dentist I have ever been to and I am a person who has been obsessed with her teeth all my life. I have lived all around the east from NY to Fl and every time I move, the first thing I do is get a dentist. He's fabulous.

Worst experience ever. Literally should have left this review a long time ago. Dr mcquire insisted my son have a bunch of teeth removed at young age. His front two teeth were the only problem due to him using a sippy cup to long. So on his recommendation my son was put under local anitesia and teeth were removed. Doing this was a mistake because it shrunk his mouth causing us to spend thousands to correct this. When I spoke with the receptionist at Dr Mcguires office they didnt want to admit to any wrong doing. This is not my only bad experience with this place. Other people have had similar issues. Stay away!!!

I went to Dr. McGuire knowing I had one cavity, but after he poked around at four of my bottom teeth he said I had three cavities. I went to get a second opinion at another dentist and he said I had two broken filling one on the bottom and one on top. completely different than what Dr. McGuire said. The overall experience was discouraging and I didn't like the over all environment of the office.

Would highly recommend this practice! If they can help me chill during an appointment, they can help anyone with dental anxiety. Flat out kind. No shaming for dental isssues. Professional, knowledgeable staff. Great views while you wait.
