Dr Schaefer was born and raised in Independence, Missouri. He is a proud graduate of William Chrisman High School. Dr. Schaefer attended Graceland University for two Years before finishing his B.S. Degree in Biology at UMKC. He graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery, DDS, from UMKC in 1987. Since then, Dr. Schaefer has made a commitment to advancing his skills and knowledge by attending many continuing education courses and programs. He has participated in comprehensive course curriculum involving esthetics, occlusion, and restorative dentistry at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. Dr. Schaefer is a valued member of the American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, Greater Kansas City Dental Society, and the Eastern Jackson County Dental Health Group. He is a former member of the Independence Advisory Board of Health.

Dr. Schaefer and his wife Melissa have been married since 1987. They have one daughter, Kathryn Danielle Dani, who is a graduate of William Jewell College and holds a masters degree in public administration with an emphasis on nonprofit management. Dani is currently the Director of Grant Management for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City. Needless to say, her parents are very proud of her. Dani and husband, Brett, tied the knot in 2020. Dr. Schaefer and Melissa are very excited to welcome Brett into their family officially.

Dr. Schaefer and Melissa are involved in the community through their church and their work with the Mader Foundation (www.maderfoundation.com), a charitable organization that supports programs benefiting children in Greater Kansas City. Melissa is President and Dr. Schaefer assists in many aspects of managing the Foundation. The Foundation has had a considerable impact in the community and has partnered with great organizations including Childrens Mercy Hospital, JDRF, Hope House, Kansas City Zoo, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and many others.

Favorite things to do outside the office include cooking, golf, building sandcastles, and traveling to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They enjoy spending time together as a family and enjoy the company of their poodles, Pippa and Max.

Our Lead Hygienist, Jamie, joined our practice in 2013. She graduated from UMKC with a B.S. Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2007. Her responsibilities include performing oral prophylaxis (cleanings), oral cancer screenings, educating patients on home care and nutrition, and charting various conditions as well as disease and decay. Jamies thorough nature and close attention to precision make her a perfect fit for her position, as well as her gentle approach and friendly demeanor. During your visit, you will often hear Jamies infectious laughter as she and her patients share their time together. Her favorite thing about working with Dr. Schaefer and our team is the way our office promotes a positive environment and a genuinely family-like atmosphere. Jamie and her husband, Matt, have been married since 2002. They have 2 children, Linley and Charlie, and cute little dog, Gidget. In her leisure time, when she is not running the kids around to various activities (piano, sports, scouts) she enjoys attending church with her family, boating at the lake, swimming, going to sporting events and festivals, traveling (not as much as she would like to), shopping, hanging out with her family and friends, and watching movies and reality TV.
