The son of a medical doctor and a high school teacher, Dan Darnell grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. Art played an important part in Dan's family: his mother supported his father's studies in medical school by selling portraits, and Dan himself studied at the Birmingham Museum of Art as a child.
After graduating from Mountain Brook High School, he studied English and art at Samford University, and worked for Dunhall Pharmaceuticals and Bristol Myers. Upon returning to Birmingham, he worked for Southern Research Institute and graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham.
After completing his studies at the UAB School of Dentistry in 1986, Dan opened his first private practice in Hanceville. His practice moved to Cullman in 2002, just a short distance away from the original office. Dan is passionate about inventing and developing new products to make dentistry better for both patients and practitioners. He has been granted seven patents for teeth bleaching trays and methods, and his products have been licensed by companies such as Remedent and Nu-Radiance. Currently he evaluates products for companies such as 3M and contributes his expertise on DentalTown, an educational website serving dental students and practitioners, while continuing to offer his patients a variety of services to ensure their teeth look great and function perfectly.

I am the same person who posted the other negative review months ago. Since then, Dr Darnell and his staff have done everything they can to correct the situation. I was in a lot of pain and very frustrated when I wrote the last review and may have been a little unfair in my judgement. All said and done I would now say that I am happy with my teeth and smile and thankful to Dr. Darnell and his staff for all they've done. I would recommend them if you need work done. At the very least, I owe them an apology. I wish I could remove my previous review, but after several attempts I can not get it down because I was using a different phone when I wrote it.

Horrible experience. Lied to me, told personal medical information about me (even to the point of insulting me) to a 3rd party, and refused to finish the work I already paid for. Instead of putting in implants, which is what I asked him to do and was under the impression that was what I paid for, he put in a bridge, which causes all kinds of long term problems, from infection to bone loss. Here I am months later, and still in excruciating pain from one of the teeth I first told him about. Add that to a terrible bedside manner and rude staff. I even had blisters on the sides of my lips from them being so rough on 2 occasions. I had to practically beg them for a prescription for antibiotics and then he gave me a prescription for a Zpack which doesn't work well at all, but is very expensive. So, no, I would NOT recommend going here. Here I am 6 months later, savings depleted, in debt, and in pain with no idea what to do now.

Dr. Darnell is an excellent dentist! I recommend him to anyone looking for a nice dentist that truly cares about you and your teeth! He is entertaining and his staff is always very pleasant. I've been going to him since I was young and wouldn't go anywhere else!

I have been a patient of Dr Dan Darnell for a Number of years.I have always been treated very professionally with always excellent results. Everyone always been at work as a team to please me . Recently I sent a patient there and paid for all dental service he received there.Chris wrote in a review that he had already paid for when I paid for all on Chris Torrisi.He also received a root canal for which Dr Dan Darnell arranged at no cost to him.

I had an excellent visit with Dr. Dan Darnell,my dentist, recently. I just cannot sing enough praises about Dr. Darnell and his staff. Cindi, Deb and Vanessa over the years that I have been a patient at his practice. Everyone is friendly, prompt and professional. Dr. Darnell is honest and will let you know what is going on and what needs to be done. Many people dread visits to their Dentist but I can honestly say since I have been a patient of Dr. Darnell's it has been a pleasant experience and I always leave with a big smile and a good feeling. Thank you Dr. Darnell and staff! Also I have referred many family members and friends to Dr. Darnell because of his great care/services, staff and professional atmosphere.

I have been seeing Doc Dan since I was a child! I have always had the BEST experience here! There very up front about what procedures they will be doing and how much money, and they are very fair! The staff remembers me by name It's always felt like family. So thankful for a wonderful place to have all my dental needs met!!
