Dr. Dunwody attended Lanier High School for Boys in Macon, Georgia. He continued to the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. Dr. Dunwody then entered an orthodontic residency at Emory University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1977 and his Certificate of Orthodontics in 1979.
Dr. Dunwody has been in practice for30 years and has lectured on orthodontics to general dentists for the mastership program at the Georgia Academy of General Dentistry. In addition, Dr. Dunwody participates in many continuing education courses involving dentofacial growth and development from embryology to the dentofacial changes as aging occurs, occlusion (bites), temporomandibular joints and associated structures and practice management. Dr. Dunwody states, The challenges of the information age regarding orthodontic care are both enlightening and challenging. All of us are committed to lifelong learning that will benefit our patients care and improving our service and experience.
Dr. Dunwody also volunteered for 12 years as an Assistant Scout Master and committee member for Troop #648, volunteered for eight years as a soccer coach for West Gwinnett Soccer Club and volunteered for three years as United Way Co-Chairman for dentists in Gwinnett County. In addition to his time volunteering, Dr. Dunwody sponsors and supports the community and his patients sporting and cultural activities at over 10 high schools. His other sponsorships include The Cancer Ball of Gwinett County, Ducks Unlimited Banquet and the West Gwinnett Soccer Club.
In addition, Dr. Dunwody is considered board-eligible for Diplomate status in the American Board of Orthodontics. Also, Dr. Dunwody has had leadership positions in several professional organizations, including the:
'The study of orthodontia is insolubly connected with that of art as related to the human face. The mouth is the most potent factor in making or marring the beauty and character of the face. The form and beauty of the mouth largely depends on the occlusal relations of the teeth.
Our duties as orthodontists force upon us great responsibilities. There is nothing in which the student of orthodontia should be more keenly interested in than art generally and especially in relation to the human face, for each of his efforts makes for beauty or ugliness; harmony or disharmony; for perfection or deformity of the face. Hence it should be one of his life studies.'

Dr. Dunwody is a miracle worker! I came in with challenging issues with my teeth and bite. With patience and expertise he corrected these issues and I love the end result! His team is hardworking, competent, and caring. I'll really miss seeing them each month. Dr. Dunwody and his team really made my Orthodontic Treatment a great experience.

I personally am so grateful to Dr. Dunwody. If it wasn't for him going beyond just typical orthodontist work I would have never known the other medical issues I was having which now have been corrected thanks to him . The staff are so hardworking, patience, and caring. I give a special thanks to each and everyone of the ladies their awesome work. I would recommend this practice to anyone. Dr. Dunwoody and his staff are the greatest!! I was experiencing pain and discomfort from what I thought were complications from an oral surgery procedure. After a thorough exam, Dr. Dunwoody said "I think I know what's going on here". He adjusted my bite on both sides of my mouth and immediately, Athenpain was relieved. Not only is he a phenomenal orthodontist, but he's a great listener who seeks to please his patients. He communicates regularly with my dentist Dr. Bruce Carter to make sure that they are aware of my situations and progress. Dr Dunwoody is the third orthodontist our family has used and by far, he is the most outstanding. He treats the whole child and puts health first! He quickly recognized that our first priority was my daughters changing oral development due to enlarged adenoids and chronic sinusitis. He wrote a letter of his findings to our ENT and recommended to pull two teeth to relieve crowding while we waited for that first issue to be resolved. We are so pleased! It led us down a path of discovering and underlying immune deficiency and having surgery which was critical in getting our daughter into better health. He is a very caring and knowledgeable doctor.

I completed my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Dunwody two years ago and now he is treating my two daughters! I am impressed by the exemplary level of knowledge and professionalism of Dr. Dunwody and his staff. He is very skillful and methodical in everything he does. I've been going to Dr. Dunwody for a little over a year now. The best thing about his practice is I always feel welcomed and not just another patient or number. It seems like all of the assistants know the patients by name and try to relate somehow to them. Dr. Dunwody is very thorough and is very involved in every aspect of my treatment.
