I obtained my education at the University of Pittsburgh on a football scholarship where I was captain of the 1965 Pitt football team. In 1969 I graduated and pursued my Doctorate in Dental Medicine. In 1971 I went on to specialize in orthodontics receiving my Orthodontic Masters of Science in Dentistry degree in 1974.
Having the privilege of treating several generations of patients, I am extremely proud of how Dahar Orthodontics continues to gain a powerful reputation for professionalism, attention to detail, and the loving care we give to each and every patient. I am very pleased that my family has followed in the dental field. My oldest son, Nick also chose the orthodontic field and joined me as my associate in 2006. In addition, my daughter Sara, a Dental Hygienist, helps manage our three offices. My youngest son, Matthew graduated from dental school in June 2012 and will be specializing in pediatric dentistry.
Aside from my great love for my profession, I enjoy golf, golf, and more golf! I am dedicated to staying healthy and remaining involved in my familys lives, especially my beautiful grandchildren. I also take pride in supporting many charities, schools, and community programs through donations and activities.
My dedication to orthodontics is inspired by my desire to provide patients with an investment that lasts a lifetime. In addition to orthodontics, my focus has also included eliminating the headaches and migraines that can be caused by a bad bite.
I began my career at Carnegie Mellon University and obtained my Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD) in 1997. In addition to my DMD I also obtained my Masters in Business Administration, (MBA) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) at the University of Pittsburgh. I received my Orthodontic Masters of Science in Dentistry from Saint Louis University in 2005.
Don't worry! Braces aren't nearly as scary as you may think. In fact, braces today come in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, making life with braces much easier, more comfortable, and even more stylish than in the past.
Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. While braces may have had a bad reputation in the past, today's braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.
Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists states that one in five orthodontic patients is over the age of 21. Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too.
For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today's orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:
The main difference to remember when treating adults or children and teens, is that in younger patients the jawbones are still developing. For adults, these bones have stopped growing, which may mean the possibility of orthognathic surgery to align the jawbones. Other differences include:
Our practice also recognizes that adults and children have different needs, and require a different level of attention and care. We will work with you to ensure that you receive the most appropriate treatments, and that your needs are met with understanding and respect from us.

While trying to make an appointment for a resident In a program. I was told that people from programs don't pay their bills so they aren't seeing them anymore! Also said that they are a private practice and can see who they want!! Appalled by the discrimination, especially since no one from out program was ever seen there before

About 2 years ago my jaw locked into place, but i had always had a cracking and popping issue when I ate, talked or even yawned and never knew what it was. I went through a big process of trying to find the right specialist to help with my issue. I found Dahar Orthodontics and found out I was suffering from TMJ and my mouth opened wider than it should. Over the course of the two years, I met very great people that cared for my condition and they were very nice every time I went into my appointment. I had got braces and within weeks I had noticed a difference in the discomfort of my jaw joints. I want to give a special thanks to Dr. Dahar and his staff for helping me overcome this process, it may have been long but it was well worth it! Now my teeth are straighter and fit better and I have no pain or discomfort at all. This has changed my life and made me more confident in my smile.

More like a 2.5 though. They knew what they were doing but they did not wear gloves. They also made backhanded statements about my hygine whey they thought I could not hear it. Not to mention I dont know why but there were sort of hostile towards me. In all they knew what they were doing but they were not the nicest.

I go to Dr. Dahar for my braces and everybody in his office is really nice. Dr. Dahar knows I like to golf and remembers to ask me about it every time I am there. I'm glad he is my orthodontist and would tell anyone who needs braces to go to see him for sure

My children and I are patients at Dr Philip Dahar's office. We all were difficult cases and he was able to give us beautiful smiles. He is very kind and professional. The best orthodontist in the area.

Extremely unorganized, extremely rude, and I'm paying all over again just to go somewhere else to get a professional experience.

I have had a sever case of TMJ for several years to the point I could hardly open my mouth. Recently I had back and neck pain occur every day, to the point I was going to the chiropractor three times a week. Nothing was helping. A friend referred me to Dr. Dahar. It's only been two weeks since Dr. Dahar made me a mouth splint and my back pain has diminished greatly. Its hard to believe that my TMJ had caused all this pain, but I am now a true believer. Customer service has also been wonderful. Like many people, my insurance did not cover the expenses for treating TMJ. I had many questions and concerns prior to accepting the service and Dr. Dahar and his staff were very thorough in answering all my questions. Each week during my follow up appts, Dr. Dahar takes his time to explain my progression.

For nearly 3 decades I had TMJ issues, but it reached a point where my daily life was impacted. I had a very narrow ability to open my mouth, my jaw would catch and painfully grind, chewing was an issue as well as ringing in the ears and vertigo. My dentist insisted I was overdue to see Dr. Phil Dahar. I just didn't think that anything could be done and today I glad to be proven wrong. Over the course of 22 months, I went from using a splint combined with physical therapy to reposition my jaw and increase my opening ability. My range in opening changed from 25 mm to 45 mm. To establish this new jaw positioning, I also went through orthodontia treatment. My braces are off, my jaw is healed and working well, and as an added bonus, I have a gorgeous smile. I didn't expect a cosmetic change on top of everything else. The transformation is amazing. My dentist told me that "Dr. Phil is second to none with the treatment of jaws in this area" and I could agree more. My only regret would be to have not gone sooner!
