In 1919, Robert M. Parmelee donated his summer home in Peterborough for use as a community hospital, and in 1923 The Peterborough Hospital opened its doors. Parmelee hoped that his contribution would create a local hospital that the residents of the area would consider their own and would continue to support in the coming years. Mr. Parmelees dream of a community-supported hospital has become a reality. Monadnock Community Hospital is an integral part of the healthcare community in the Monadnock Region.
Monadnock Community Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital, owns a primary care network of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers. This network provides a wide range of primary and behavioral health care services for individuals and families with offices in Peterborough, Rindge, Jaffrey, Antrim and New Ipswich.

The MCH Healthcare Ethics Committee provides support and help to the MCH community among those seeking to resolve uncertainty or conflict regarding valueladen or ethical concerns that emerge in the delivery of healthcare. The committee also serves to educate the staff on issues related to healthcare ethics and is involved in the development of policies with regards to patient care.
If the staff, the healthcare team, the patient, and the patients family have unresolved or ethically challenging questions, have ethical issues that they feel are not being addressed, then a call to the ethics committee is appropriate. Discussions with the committee can be helpful and reassuring to the concerned parties especially when difficult choices must be made.
Patients, surrogates, family members, health care providers and any employee of the hospital can make a request. If the healthcare team, the patient, or the patients family has an unresolved ethical question or concern, then the ethics committee may be consulted.
The committee is composed of individuals from different health care disciplines such as physicians, clergy, nurses, social workers and administrative staff. The community is also represented by community members.
Volunteer Services responds to department requests for volunteer help and works with the requesting department to develop a written service description, if necessary.
