Dr. Curtis N. Kamisugi, a native of Hawaii, was born and reared in Wahiawa. After graduating from Punahou High School, he received his B.S. in biology in 1977 from the University of Oregon. He continued his education at Indiana University School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1981 and his Masters of Science in orthodontics in 1983. While earning his dental degree, Dr. Kamisugi was elected to membership in the honorary dental society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and also received the International College of Dentists award for outstanding achievement. In 1983, Dr. Kamisugi was the recipient of the Robert Farnsworth Award for the outstanding orthodontic graduate.

He is active in many professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Hawaii Dental Association and the Hawaii State Society of Orthodontists.

Dr. Kamisugi met his wife, Dr. Cynthia Merrick, in dental school and they share the Aiea office. They reside in Honolulu with their two children, Ryan and Maile. In his free time, Dr. Kamisugi enjoys photography, spending time with his family, traveling, surfing and playing golf.

Dr. Burt Kawamoto grew up in Aiea, Hawaii where he was a former orthodontic patient of Dr. Kamisugi. He attended Creighton University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Minor in Biology. Upon graduation, he moved to Kansas City where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Dentistry while also being inducted into the honorary dental society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Kawamoto continued his education at UMKC School of Dentistry to pursue his passion in Orthodontics and also receiving a Master of Science in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences.

Dr. Kawamoto is involved in many professional organizations including the American Association of Orthodontics, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, Hawaii Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association, and the Hawaii Dental Association.

Dr. Kawamoto is excited to return home and practice in the community that he grew up in. He thoroughly enjoys how through orthodontics he is able to create meaningful relationships with his patients and their family, while simultaneously having a positive impact on others. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Kawamoto enjoys cooking for his friends and family, finding new restaurants to eat at, running, hiking, and spending time at the beach.

Colleen joined Dr. Kamisugis team in March 1992 starting as an Orthodontic Assistant then transitioned to the front as the Financial Coordinator. She was born in Hong Kong and has called Oahu her home since she was four years old. Colleen is married and has one very kolohe four legged fur baby. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, traveling, loves to eat and spending time with family and friends! Colleen is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Our Treatment Coordinator Derrah had 4 years of dental experience prior to joining Dr. Kamisugis team in May 2009. Derrah works with Dr. Kamisugi and Dr. Kawamoto to give patients the best treatment options to achieve their personal orthodontic goals. She enjoys learning new things every day. Outside of work, Derrah enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach, and working out. Derrah is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Arianna joined our practice in October 2018 as our front office scheduling coordinator. She is usually the first face you'll meet when you walk into our office. During her free time she enjoys baking, shopping, traveling and spending time with her family. Ari is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Hazel started as a high school volunteer and then later became part of the staff in late 2009. In her spare time, she enjoys eating, playing video games, lifting weights, writing, and spending time with her family. In the future, she hopes to be able to travel the world and experience all the touristy things. Hazel is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Mary has attended numerous seminars in her 30 plus years of orthodontics. She wants to continue learning about the newest updates in technology in the field of orthodontics. Mary is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Candace received her certificate from Hawaii Schools of Dental Assisting in 2014 and previously worked in dental pediatrics for 3 years before joining Dr. Kamisugis staff. in 2017. She enjoys spending her days with friends and family. She loves dogs, Disney, shopping and traveling. Candace is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Daisy is a certified Dental Assistant by Hawaii Schools of Dental Assisting and has been working in the dental field since 2012. On her days off she loves going on adventures around the island with her husband and daughter. Daisy enjoys being apart of our patients smile and watching their smiles transform from start to finish. She loves spending her weekends with her family and enjoys finding new places to eat. Daisy is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.

Tati joined our Smile Team in June 2018. She enjoys working with the staff and getting to know all of our patients. Some hobbies that Tati enjoys are; going to the beach and on fun adventures with her husband, spending time with her family, playing sports and board games, traveling, and photography. She looks forward to learning more and expanding her knowledge in the orthodontic field. Tati is certified as a Specialized Orthodontic Assistant from the American Association of Orthodontists.
