Dr. Petersen attended the University of Utah with a degree in Medical Biology. He then graduated at the top of his class from the Medical University of South Carolina where he earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry. While in school he received several awards, some of which include Orthodontic Student of the Year, induction to the honorary dental society Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and Presidential Scholar for the MUSC College of Dental Medicine.
Upon graduation Dr. Petersen completed his orthodontic specialty training at Montefiore Medical Center, an internationally recognized hospital in the heart of New York City. These three years of orthodontic residency included advanced specialty training in smile esthetics, orthognathic surgery, Invisalign therapy, laser gingival contouring, TMJ treatment, and temporary anchorage device placement. Dr. Petersen is a member of the Umpqua Dental Society, American Dental Association, and is board eligible with the American Orthodontic Organization.
Additionally, Dr. Petersen has published and completed extensive research on esthetic options for patients orthodontic treatment, TMJ pain and treatment, and how to improve and promote dental research in dental schools. His research has been published in several peer reviewed journals, and he has presented this research at several conferences. Dr. Petersen realizes that the orthodontic profession is rapidly adapting, and is proud to stay ahead of the curve by attending orthodontic conferences, networking with orthodontists nationally, and allotting time each week to the continued study of the latest orthodontic research.
Dr. Petersen, his wife Katherine, and newborn son Jack are excited to live in Roseburg, and raise their family here. They are eager to be active participants in the community. Outside of the office Dr. Petersen can be found snowboarding in the winter, and hiking, biking, and fishing in Oregons beautiful outdoors in the summer.
Stacy helps Dr. Petersen by getting patients ready, cleaning braces, taking x-rays, making molds, and assisting during procedures. She was born and raised in Northeast Washington and moved here in 2005. Shortly after, she met and married her husband. They have a beautiful daughter, who loves gymnastics and dancing. They recently started a new exciting journey: becoming foster parents to a sweet little boy who enjoys sports and BMX racing. Stacy has been a clinical assistant since 2009 and going strong. She chose orthodontics because she loves building personal relationships with each patient and really enjoys being a part of patients achieving the smile they have always dreamed of. When Stacy isnt in the office, she can often be found, camping, riding 4-wheelers with her family, playing volleyball or softball, or watching her kiddos enjoy their activities. Stacy likes to get all dolled up and fancy but dont let that fool you she is also pretty good and getting a little muddy from time to time.

A five star review is the least I can do for the amazing experience I have had at Current Orthodontics, from my initial consultation to the completion of my treatment. Dr. Petersen exceeded my expectations on my smile goal. I always dreamed of having a beautiful smile I never thought it would be a reality until I met Dr. Petersen. Dr. Petersen is and definitely will be your biggest fan through your treatment even during the frustrating times. I also felt that I was treated more like family, the atmosphere of the office is very welcoming and everyone seems very passionate about their work, even during a crazy global pandemic. My daughter loves going to current orthodontics, she even asks when she can go see Dr Petersen even if we don't have an appointment. All of the staff have been great in her journey and we can see the results!

I've been so happy with the professional, friendly, welcoming treatment by all at Current! Dr. Peterson truly cares about each client and works diligently to get my alignment just right! I nene feel like they're rushing me through although they are always busy with clients. I've never had to wait more than 5 min to be seen. I can't say enough what a pleasure it's been to be treated by Current Orthodontics!

Dr. Petersen is very passionate and knowledgeable about his practice. He didn't try to shove me into a "cookie cutter mold" of how to achieve a better smile. He tailored a treatment specific to my mouth. Even after I finished my initial treatment he continues to follow my smile to make sure my retainers are meeting his standards. I also admire the way he treats his staff members. The way he treats his staff says a lot about his character. If my children need orthodontic treatment I know where I am taking them.

Always welcomed when you check in. It's never boring they always have a monthly giveaway or games, events like Tie Dye Day! Free ice cream in the summer. Coffee bar with every thing on it you could need for your coffee. Patients get a bag of much needed food and comfort items when they get their braces on. Then again when they get them off another bag of cool stuff. Straight out of Braces logo shirt is so cool! . It's like visiting friends when you go. They truly care about you at Current Orthodontics.

Current Orthodontics is and will always be an amazing place to take my children because of the absolutely dedicated employees they all are Dr. Peterson is one of the only orthodontist we have went to that chooses to love and care for his patient's as well as the entire family , always a pleasure when we see our family friends at Current Orthodontics our son has there most beautiful and perfect smile thanks again CURRENT!!!

Cannot recommend this business at this time, my son with sensory issues left in tears and mildly traumatized, the mention of Dr. Peterson makes my sons breathing quick and sharp. Luckily we immediately switched care to a female doctor across town, now we're just out $1,000 which Dr. Peterson collected, despite seeing my son once.

I never give bad reviews and like to try and see the good in most. Dr Petersen does go above and beyond for some of his patients. However, my experience was very poor and have heard the same for others I have talked to! I came to Dr Petersen in 2019 for braces and was talked into Invisalign promising big results in 9 months. I had a standard class II Div 1 bite (standard overbite) and opted to go for quicker results. With COVID, it only put me behind about 4 weeks in my trays and I followed every Invisalign compliance. 2 years later almost to the exact day, Dr Petersen told me my treatment was complete. My bite was worse off then before. Reached out to another local dentist and then Dr Lemert for 2nd opinion and was told by both that I was nowhere near completion. I am now paying for full braces and another 18 months to have Dr Lemert do correctly. My concerns were brought to Dr Petersen professionally and ignored following these appointments. I highly recommend doing your research and finding an office that values patient concerns even when the outcome isn't in the Doctors favor. At the end of the day I'm thankful I can honestly take those experiences and give a professional opinion to the patients I see next year as a Dental Hygienist in hopes they can avoid the disappointment I went through. I loved this office the first year of treatment, and it was upsetting with how everything was dealt with in the end.

Dr. Petersen is absolutely amazing! He is so wonderful, I drive from Springfield to Roseburg about every 8 weeks to see him! The office is beautiful and right on the river. You have a beautiful view of wildlife while you're in the dental chair.

Love this office! The girls And Doc are so nice! They make my daughter feel welcome and confident with her smile. I am very impressed with the cleanliness of the office and attitudes of staff and their positive perspectives when helping other teammates. Rachel did an amazing job with my daughters first apt and helping entertain my toddler who was not a happy camper during the apt. We are looking forward to starting treatment here.

The absolute best all around!! Dr. Petersen is the nicest and very informative. He talked me through everything he was doing for my Invisalign treatment. Made me feel really comfortable! Also very clean and relaxing office right on the river. Overall it was such an easy visit and I couldn't be happier with him and the progress with my teeth! Highly highly recommend Current Ortho!
