Dr. Jim Cunnington In my many years in Dentistry, what Ive enjoyed most is being able to help my patients maximize their dental health. Some of my patients have a focus on overcoming fear, some on stability, while others may have a primary concern with appearance. For each patient, finding a successful balance is both a challenge and personally fulfilling.
Ive always felt that taking advanced continuing education is an important part of serving my patients. So, through the years Ive accomplished the Fellowship, and later the Master in the Academy of General Dentistry, (agd.org). Ive been an active member of the Washington Academy of General Dentistry (washingtonagd.org). Ive participated in their Mastertrack continuing education program for several years. Ive been on the Washington AGD board, on their continuing education committee, and was asked to serve as their president. I am currently active with the Spear Institute (speareducation.com) in their Study Club Education program.
I was raised in Michigan and spent my school years in Southern California, where I majored in Physics, and then got my Doctorate in Dental Surgery at Loma Linda University. We had our first child while in dental school. I joined the Air Force and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana, where we had our second little girl. My oldest learned how to ride a bike there, but the only helmet I could find back then was a hockey helmet. So, she looked like one tough hombre on the base.
While visiting my relatives in the Northwest, I was attracted to its beauty, and so settled down here eventually adding three more children. My oldest daughter has a Masters in Environmental Sciences and works for the city in Bellingham, WA. My other 2 daughters live near Everett. One is a dentist and the other is a homemaker. My two boys each served in the military. One in the Air Force, and the other served in the Marines. They both are in college majoring in Computer Science.
When they were little, I would take them to Mt. Erie near Anacortes to go rock climbing. Climbing shoes back then were not available for wee ones, so they would scamper up barefoot. I took them skiing, back packing (only ONE cabbage patch doll per child please!), and snow cave camping among other adventures. They were real troopers, and its gratifying to watch them introducing these activities with their kids.
JES's first dental hygiene position in Port Townsend was in this office location with Dr Henry Nichols more than 30 years ago. She is passionate about music and dance: JES performs with the eight-member a cappella group Wild Rose and enjoys improvisational and expressive freestyle dance. She loves nature photography and being active outdoors. In the winter months JES likes sewing, quilting, jewelry making and other forms of handwork. Her special focus in dental hygiene is making the visit as pleasant as possible; she truly enjoys patients' personal stories and getting to know their particular dental needs and preferences in order to put patients at ease.
Julie was born and raised in California, Julie received her Bachelors degree in Dental Hygiene from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She moved to Port Townsend in 1994, following a 2 year sailboat cruise around the South Pacific. Julie is married to a General Contractor in town and has two grown daughters. She spends her free time running, traveling and boating.
Jaime moved to Sequim as a freshman in high school. The Olympic Peninsula quickly became her forever home. She married in 2009, graduated from the dental hygiene program at Pierce College in 2010, and has worked in this office ever since. She is currently working one day a week so she can be home with her two young girls; Jenna age three, and Josie born in May 2017.

I had my teeth cleaned there and it was a HORRIBLE experience. The dental hygienist did the job by hand, meaning without the use of an electric teeth cleaning machine to which I was accustomed. She constantly complained as she worked and the entire procedure was so painful. I still felt the pain a week later! NEVER GO THERE! They'll NEVER see me again!!!

My husband has sleep apnea and did a home sleep test through Dr. Cunnington. They made him a dental device to alleviate the symptoms which included constant snoring. I'm happy to report that our sleep is completely peaceful now and he feels so much better. Than you Dr and staff!! You are amazing!

The initial exam by Dr Cunnington was the most thorough I've ever had. He suggested several ideas that none of my previous dentists or periodontists ever mentioned. Both he and the staff are very professional. I'm definitely a fan!!!

If you want a dentist who is kind, compassionate and very knowledgeable, then Dr. Cunnington and his staff is the right place to go! I have been with this same office for over 9 years now and my mouth has never been in better health! From 3 times a year getting a wonderful cleaning to working through each problem area in my mouth over the years and finally last year the sleep study that showed I would benefit from the Norval mouth guard system to curb my sleep apnea (and snoring). This little mouth guard has been a life changer! (Just ask my husband! Lol!) I sleep so soundly most nights and almost no snoring! Thank you Dr Cunnington and staff! Highly recommend.

Amazing service. I was super scared to go to the dentist due to child hood memories but once I sat down everything was ok I didn't feel a thing. the receptionist Peggy was amazing and so was the dental staff

I enjoy going to this Dental Office...it's a beautifully place and the people are beautiful too. I have two bridges made by the doctor twenty years ago and they are holding up great . I'm ready for a tooth implant with no fear that the procedure will be the best therefore I will post five stars.
