Sam Collins, D.M.D. hails from the small town of Norris, Tennessee. He developed his work ethic from time spent on his fathers Christmas tree farm, and his patience from growing up with three sisters. A late bloomer to orthodontic care himself, he got his braces off just in time to head to Belmont University. During his time there, Dr. Collins earned his bachelors degree in exercise science and also became a fan of all things Music City. (Yes, even Vanderbilt football.)

After college, he attended dental school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While earning his DMD, he developed a passion for orthodontics, specifically the patient connections and gratifications that come with the field. Dr. Collins completed his orthodontics residency at Medical University of South Carolina in 2018. During his free time, he enjoys spending afternoons on the lake, golfing, fishing, and the occasional game of pick-up basketball.

White spot lesions (WSL) are areas that appear lighter than the surrounding tooth enamel. These white spots appear because bacteria or food acids have been in contact with the tooth too long and started to dissolve the tooth surface. When bacteria sits on your teeth, it produces acids that can wear away the enamel. The enamel then becomes discolored and chalky.

WSLs are a common issue for people who have braces. Braces can be challenging to clean around and trap food and bacteria around the teeth. Whether you have braces or not, the good news is that WSLs can be prevented.

To prevent white spots, brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes, especially before bedtime. Focus on the areas at the gum line or between the orthodontic brackets and gums where WSLs are most common. Make sure to floss at least once a day to remove plaque and debris from between your teeth.

A healthy diet is also important in preventing white spots. Reduce the intake of acidic sugary food, drinks, and carbohydrates, which basically break down into sugar. If you can, brush after every meal or least rinse with water. In fact, when it is time to reach for a drink, make an effort to go for the water more often! Many other drinks contain sugar or acids which will definitely contribute to white spot lesions. And lastly, dont forget to visit the dentist twice a year for a professional cleaning and check-up.

There are things you can do on your own or with your oral health care provider to take care of these spots. You can help repair the enamel with regular brushing and flossing and using toothpaste with fluoride.

Your dentist can use a remineralizing agent or microabrasion to improve appearance and protect against decay. Your dentist may also recommend a prescription fluoride toothpaste to help strengthen the enamel in the area of the WSLs.

Cancelled appointments continue to trigger numerous reminders and follow up texts. Wish the doctors had more availability.

Always friendly. Very clean office. Able to get an appointment when needed. Most importantly, my daughter is very comfortable being treated by the Orthodontic staff. Highly recommend!

I would recommend this place to anyone!! Hands down the best place I've taken my kids. My youngest would never get in the chair let alone allow the dentist to look at her teeth and have them cleaned. They are gentle, patient and very cautious and aware of 'scary' words that kids might get worried after hearing. We had Daijaie and Mikayla this time and I pray I get them everytime. This was the first time going to the dentist did not turn into an emotional Rollercoaster for my kids. Thank you all so much!!

We had a great experience at Cumberland. My son went for his first cleaning/exam and was comfortable and excited to be there. The waiting room is perfect for young kids. Mikayla, Daijaie and Dr. Ruth were kind and helpful. I would highly recommend!

Was great when it first opened now it's a total train wreck! This Mama will never be going back....from in the middle of a cleaning on my 6year old to look at a lunch menu at 10:30 AM ...to telling me I couldn't go into the room with my 7yr old for Nitro because the room is to small.. very little explanation on anything...to constant emails & text messages for confirmation after I already confirmed. Extremely frustrating

I transferred my children to the Cool Springs location from the M'boro one after moving to Franklin and highly recommend them. The front desk ladies, the dental hygienists, dentists, ortho coordinator; all of them are all very nice, friendly and polite. They made my 2 yr old feel comfortable with his first dental check up and made my 14 yr old feel comfortable with getting braces. My 14 yr old even commented how she likes them! Everyone in this office is very professional and polite and they don't make you feel rushed. They thoroughly explain their treatments and it shows that they care about their patients. Their office is very clean, modern and kid/teen friendly. I highly recommend this office if you are looking for a pediatric dental office.

Our displeasure started on our first appointment when the tech put on the wrong braces and then tried to blame my 12 yr old son. She stated why didn't you say something. They fixed that and then one of his brackets popped off. A couple of weeks later. I called to make an appointment and didn't receive a call back. When I called for the second time the earliest appointment was a month out. Currently canceling contract and going to Kemp and Rice.

Do not recommend! Not accommodating with my special needs child. I'm going back to Snodgrass and King even though they don't take my insurance, I will get treatment my child deserves there.

Hands down the best place I have taken my four kids to. Not only did my kids enjoy the staff but the staff made sure to keep me informed as to what was going on with my kids. It's such a relief finding a place that takes good care of me and the kids.

Such a clean, modern office! They have a pediatric section and an orthodontic section. There are books for kids to read in the lobby and they have a movie playing. Doctor and assistant are very friendly. And they have Invisalign!

Dr. Ryann is great with kids! This office is modern, and the kids love the TVs in the ceiling to watch during their appointment. They even got to pick what movie they wanted to watch!
