White spot lesions (WSL) are areas that appear lighter than the surrounding tooth enamel. These white spots appear because bacteria or food acids have been in contact with the tooth too long and started to dissolve the tooth surface. When bacteria sits on your teeth, it produces acids that can wear away the enamel. The enamel then becomes discolored and chalky.

WSLs are a common issue for people who have braces. Braces can be challenging to clean around and trap food and bacteria around the teeth. Whether you have braces or not, the good news is that WSLs can be prevented.

To prevent white spots, brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes, especially before bedtime. Focus on the areas at the gum line or between the orthodontic brackets and gums where WSLs are most common. Make sure to floss at least once a day to remove plaque and debris from between your teeth.

A healthy diet is also important in preventing white spots. Reduce the intake of acidic sugary food, drinks, and carbohydrates, which basically break down into sugar. If you can, brush after every meal or least rinse with water. In fact, when it is time to reach for a drink, make an effort to go for the water more often! Many other drinks contain sugar or acids which will definitely contribute to white spot lesions. And lastly, dont forget to visit the dentist twice a year for a professional cleaning and check-up.

There are things you can do on your own or with your oral health care provider to take care of these spots. You can help repair the enamel with regular brushing and flossing and using toothpaste with fluoride.

Your dentist can use a remineralizing agent or microabrasion to improve appearance and protect against decay. Your dentist may also recommend a prescription fluoride toothpaste to help strengthen the enamel in the area of the WSLs.

I took my daughter here twice. The first time was a good experience (besides the wait). The second appointment did not go well. We arrived ten minutes early and waited for an hour (with my three month old). I asked the receptionist where we were in line and she told me that she would check. I sit back down and wait for another ten minutes. I then go up again to check. She tells me that they never checked me in and would have to figure something out. I left and took my business elsewhere. I understand that mistakes happen, but she was not apologetic at all and wasn't working urgently to fix the mistake.

My 2yr old is very reserved. She was such a big girl. They explained everything before doing anything. They made her feel so comfortable til she was ready to help everyone once done. Lol.. They have wonderful customer service and care for the children. I love the patience they have for them and how the atmosphere is setup for the kids to enjoy the visit.

(Translated by Google) Excellent attention. The most important thing that my son said was that they had taken good care of him, they are very kind, he didn't scare me (he said). Thanks. I had to take my one-year-old boy and to tell the truth I was scared, but the people who attended us were very kind, my son did not cry, thanks for making it easier for us. (Original) Excelente atencion.

Would not recommend for a special needs child. The waiting area is very big and busy and messy. There are no additional accommodations made for a special needs child to help the experience be less stressful.

My son's appointment was at 8:30am. we arrived at 8:20am we were not seen until 9:23am. My son received a basic cleaning and x-rays. I will have to say the staff and the doctor are very pleasant, nice!!! they do amazing work!! they just over schedule I feel..

we need a 0 star option because this dentist is after money not after helping ur children's teeth .They push u into doing not needed things which just mess up the teeth.

They had a competency and efficiency I was impressed by, something a military mobilization processing site could learn from. However it lacked the warmth and intimacy I would have hoped from a pediatric dentistry practice.

The Murfreesboro office is AMAZING! But the Smyrna office was awful. A complete waste of time. How can you be considered a pediatric office, when you cannot handle kids.

I highly recommend Cumberland Pediatric Dentisty and Orthodontist of Smyrna! Not only do the staff provide professional service, but they are very kind and have lots of patience with my children. They have actives and movies to keep children preoccupied while they wait. Movies are also provided for the children while they receive service.
