Cumberland Dental Arts is excited to announce a new addition to our team! Dr. Julissa Guerra will be joining our practice in October. She is an excellent, experienced Dentist. Dr. Davis will still provide the majority of the dental care along with our outstanding team of Hygienists, Assistants, and Office Staff. Adding Dr. Guerra will enable us to increase our availability in service to our patients and community.

She was born and raised in Guatemala. As a teenager, her orthodontist enlightened her to what became one of her biggest passions: Dentistry. In essence, dentistry fulfills her strong desire to help people live better and healthier lives; it also combines her fascination for science, art, health care, and business management. She enjoys caring for others and guiding them to attain healthier smiles.

When she was 20 years old, her family moved to California, the placed she called home for the next 10 years. Moving to a new country came with many struggles, including learning a new language; but she was determined to become a dentist. She spent her first year in California mastering the English language before enrolling in college. A few years later, she graduated with honors at California State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and minored in Chemistry. During her undergraduate years, she was very involved with the local Pre-Dental Club, where she volunteered in different organizations and helped to create a community outreach program to teach oral hygiene at local elementary schools.

Julissa attended the University of the Pacific, Arthur A, Dugoni School of Dentistry to pursue her Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 2016. She then completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency through TUFTS University School of Dental Medicine. She fell in love with the diversity and exceptional beauty of the State of Maine, where she has lived for the past 4 years. Dr. Guerra enjoys trying new foods, learning new cultures, and cooking new recipes. She also spends some of her free time outdoors hiking, kayaking, and exploring new places.

She isvery happy to be joining our team and offering her services to the local community. Not only is she passionate about providing gentle, anxiety-free dentistry, but also, she feels very strongly about staying current with new techniques, procedures, and technology under the guidance of evidence-based dentistry.

1 star - front office 3 star - dentist 5 star - hygienist Unfortunately the front office shapes the dental experience and theirs has been awful. They didn't tell me they were no longer taking my insurance, didn't know they had previously taken my insurance and was paid in full by my provider, didn't cancel my appointment when requested, didn't call or anything to remind me of my appointment and thought telling me a month prior to reschedule due to a sick hygienist was sufficient, maybe they never send reminders... the hygienists are great but I've never had such a quick visit from a dentist before (in and out in a minute, no time for questions)

Before jump in to write the review, I want to start by saying, I am a dentist who practiced dentistry for a decade in Iraq before relocating to the US, I am not licensed to practice in the US as I switched to healthcare administration field since some time now. This practice is great for fillings, cleaning and restorative dentistry but it is not the case for teeth extraction. Unfortunately, the dentist has a very traumatic approach to pulling teeth, he uses the high speed turbine to cut bone before trying to pull the tooth with a forceps. This is very unnecessary and is well known for a traumatic extraction method. You only cut bone for partially or fully impacted teeth not for a normal tooth that is standing up in your mouth full length. My wife and my daughter have previously done teeth extractions in this place and were complaining for weeks, unfortunately I thought they were just winning, but Friday of last week I had my own tooth pulled. I am 50 years old, diabetic and the tooth in question was already mobile. So I was 100% sure that is going to be an easy job. The dentist started with drilling the bone, the surrounding tooth socket which I was very shy to ask why you are doing this? I have been suffering from a pain for few days now, my insulin resistance is at peak because of the trauma. What was even more amazing to me that he suspected to have a broken root still there inside the mouth and instructed his assistance to take PA (Periapical) x-ray to double check, yet he decided to use a suture to stich me twice before the x-ray, when the assistant took the x-ray she found the root, so he needed to cut the stitches, get the root out (another traumatic approach which I will explain later) and re stich the whole thing again. When I was leaving the assistant showed me the tooth and by simply looking at it, it was screaming that it is missing a root (rough surface/not even), so I wonder why they needed an x-ray in first place, and if indeed they needed an x-ray then why stitching the wound before seeing the x-ray. The other traumatic approach for getting the root out was using the high speed again to cut bone before trying to get it out using an elevator or chisel, he even used an instrument called a Cryer elevator with a 90 degree angle something I only used to use for lower teeth and not for upper teeth, because it traumatic to use for upper teeth extraction. Don't want to give a lecture here, but upper bone (maxilla) is spongy bone, lower bone (mandible) is compact bone, hence you need a stronger instrument for lower teeth, in addition to the way the roots are different in upper teeth versus lower, you can use Cryer for lower not for upper. Unfortunately everything here in the US is set up to be more convenient to the doctors not to the patient, time is money and they want to do the job faster, even if it is going to be harmful to patients. One last thing I want to say that he used lots of local anesthesia something I couldn't understand why at the beginning, but it turned out that he obviously knows that his approach is painful/traumatic so he knew ahead of time that he needs ton of lidocaine. What a shame! I recommend this practice for all sort of dental needs except teeth extractions, I have warned you!

I never enjoy going to the dentist, I don't know who does. This visit to Cumberland Dental Arts, blew all my expectations out the window. This finely tuned team had me in and out in 20 minutes. From the front desk to the procedure itself, I felt valued and in great hands! Rae-Lynn was very professional and knowledgeable, while being friendly and engaging. She asked me smart questions and kept me pleasantly engaged through the whole process. She made me feel like I had control the whole time! She also just made me feel confident that I was getting the best tailored care and support. Luke Chouinard Windham, ME

Just got back from this place, and can hardly explain how furious I am. Sat down for a procedure that I didn't understand and was never explained to me. Without a word of conversation, I get four or five syringes pumped into my gums. As I'm losing the ability to speak, the dentist tells me that he's sure that it's what I would have wanted. Actually, there is no way in hell I would ever have agreed to anesthesia during that visit if they had shown the basic human kindness of asking. Now, I've cancelled the two meetings that I had scheduled for after the appointment -- one of which I simply could not afford to miss. Honestly not sure if the opportunity I just had to forgo is going to re-present itself. Much worse, I'm a no-show at my daughter's school, having promised to meet her for lunch, and it'll be weeks before my schedule allows me to make it up to her. Before I lost my ability to speak, I told them how upset I was, and they just shrugged their shoulders and said it'd wear off in a "couple of hours". Well, it's been a couple of hours, and there's no improvement. A simple Google search indicates that it will in fact be three to five hours before this wears off. Speaking of Google searches, one also informs me of something called Oraverse, which is a pretty common option in this situation, although they did not mention to me, even knowing how upset I was about it. Needless to say, I'll never, ever set foot in this place again, but felt the need to warn others about the thoughtless, cruel experience I just had so they can avoid it themselves. I'm sorry, if you're about to literally debilitate someone and risk trashing their entire day, you say something. Steer clear.

I have been going to Cumberland Dental Arts for years. The service has always been exemplary, even with the change of ownership. They take whatever time I need to explain what is needed before I even schedule an appointment. Further, I have found that they are not "high pressure" like other dentists I have been to. They have explained about potential threats of inaction but have been honest about the outlook so that I can plan accordingly.

I had my first visit in July with Gina and Dr. Davis. The office is clean with up to date digital X-rays. The staff are very friendly and informative. If you are looking for down to earth people and excellent dental care this is the office for you!
