I am originally from Utah, and before I ever became a dentist, I was actually interested in joining the healthcare profession for a long time. I initially planned to become a medical doctor. I received a bachelors degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and worked in a hospital imaging center, which I did happily for about 8 years. Dentistry first came onto my radar thanks to my brother-in-law, who himself is a dentist.

Through him, I came to see that dentistry would be a great fit for me, as it allowed me to combine my love for science, art, and working with my hands in order to truly help people. I also liked the independence being a dentist afforded, as it enabled me to dedicate as much time as I wanted to my wife and five children.

After my undergrad at Weber State University and Utah State University, I attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry (at this point, I was already married and had the aforementioned five children!). Thanks to their support, I was able to not only complete dental school, but I also began practicing here in this beautiful area. I still take as many hours of continuing education as I can every year and have gone through both the Biomet Synergy Training Program as well as multiple Gordon Christensen and ADA courses. I believe its essential to stay on top of the latest advances in dentistry in order to provide the best possible care.

Overall, I have spent over 10 years practicing and learning about dentistry, and Ive certainly enjoyed it. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing improvement in the oral health, appearance, and function of a patient and knowing that Ive helped in some way.

When not spending time with my wonderful wife, three sons, and twin girls, youll most often find me doing something outdoors, whether thats snow skiing, mountain biking, running, hiking or camping. Of course, one of my favorite things is just watching my children participate in their various activities (soccer, gymnastics, cross country, etc.). Im also a huge Star Wars fan, and I even own (and will wear when the occasion calls) a complete Stormtrooper costume!

I am very active in my church, and I am also a supporter of Miriams House, an organization that provides outreach and services for our homeless population. I also like to work with Girls on the Run, The Boy Scouts of America (earned Eagle Scout rank), Gleaning for the World, and CVU Soccer. Basically, if it helps to put a smile on peoples faces, Im all for it!

My father is also a dentist but it never registered as a possible career for me until I graduated college. I had always leaned toward engineering or aviation as my eventual career. However, following graduation, I began to see how much fun my father had, how many great people he got to interact with, and how much he worked with his hands. I was instantly drawn toward Dentistry. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I love that I get to have interesting conversations with all kinds of people while providing an essential service.

I am a proud graduate of E.C. Glass High School before earning my Bachelors Degree at Ohio University. There I studied Aviation, my first true love. I have been flying since I was fourteen and was enthralled with the idea of being a pilot like my Great Uncle Lloyd who had flown for PanAm. Shortly after graduation, I realized the industry was very different from what it had been in the past; and made a career move to dentistry. I attended MCV School of Dentistry before going on to a residency at the University of Virginia where I served as Chief Resident for my final year. After residency, I covered a dental office in Richmond for a friend who had fallen ill before returning to my hometown of Lynchburg and going into practice.

When I'm not at the dental office I love spending time outside. Whether it is flying, skiing, hiking, biking, running, fishing, or just going for a walk, I can't get enough of the outdoors. My wife Hoa and I also enjoy traveling and seeing the world. One of our favorite places to visit is Vietnam for delicious food, beautiful scenery, and incredible people.

Im a big believer in service; which is why I enjoy volunteering regularly at the Free Clinic of Central VA and going on occasional international and local mission trips. I am a member of the Lynchburg Morning Rotary Club, have previously served on the Lynchburg Historic Preservation Commission, and am a former President of the Lynchburg Dental Society. I also serve on the boards for the Academy Center of the Arts and Miriams House, an organization that provides outreach and services for our homeless population.
