At Crestwood Dental Group, we provide a wide array of general dentistry services for the whole family.

Dr. James Maxwell is highly trained in advanced general dentistry techniques and has invested in the latest technologies and materials, such as laser dentistry and high-quality ceramics and composites, to provide you with the best possible care. Common general dentistry services we provide include:

  • Tooth-colored fillings Gone are the days when having a cavity means that you need to have an unsightly silver filling placed; tooth-colored composite fillings are invisible to others when you smile or speak
  • Dental bonding We can use the same type of tooth-colored composite material to repair issues with the shape or structure of your tooth, such as chips, breaks, or even cosmetic issues such as permanent stains or teeth that are a different size or shape for a beautiful, symmetrical smile
  • Crowns A highly versatile dental restoration, crowns can be used to repair and protect teeth that have been damaged, replace a missing tooth on a dental implant, affix a dental bridge in place, or even change the aesthetics of a toot
  • Root canal therapy When a tooth has become infected deep within the pulp or has severe pain or sensitivity, root canal therapy is often the bestand onlyway to save your natural tooth; this treatment is highly effective at stopping pain and preventing it from returning
  • Tooth replacement options If you are facing tooth loss, we offer a number of options to replace your missing teeth for a natural appearance and functional smile, including dental implants, full and partial dentures, all-on-4 teeth in a day, and dental bridges

Fact or myth? Expensive toothpastes are always better than cheaper ones. Myth, different toothpastes are better for different teeth and situations. Sometimes moderately priced toothpaste can be more effective. Ask the dentist about what might be best for your teeth and always look for the ADA seal of approval.

Fact or myth? Teeth whitening is harmful because it damages the enamel. Myth, there are many modern teeth whitening processes that have minimal harmful effects. Teeth whitening isnt for every mouth or person, though. Consult the dentist before you proceed with whitening treatments.

Among all of the new technologies that have advanced the field of dentistry in the last few decades, laser dentistry ranks among the top in terms of its versatility and benefits for patients and dentists alike. At Crestwood Dental Group, we have equipped our practice with Waterlase Dentistry to enhance the care and comfort of a wide variety of dental procedures for our patients in the St. Louis, MO area and surrounding communities.

There are several types of dental lasers available for use. Some lasers are designed to specifically treat hard tissues (such as teeth and bone) and others are designed for soft tissues (such as gums). At Crestwood Dental Group, we have invested in and used Waterlase Dentistry for the last several years, which enables us to treat both types of tissues safely and effectively. What makes the Waterlase device unique is that it uses a patented technology called Hydrophotonics that combines laser energy a focused beam of concentrated light with a stream of water and air. When the laser hits the tooth or soft tissue surface, the water molecules become energetic, allowing the laser to make precise and comfortable cuts while the water maintains hydration in the tissue to avoid overheating and discomfort.

This small, portable laser system can be used in place of scalpels in treatments, cauterizes nerve endings to reduce pain, and sterilizes as it treats. The diode laser can be used in procedures such as:

  • Often does not require anesthesia: because treatment with Waterlase is so comfortable, most patients do not require local anesthesia which means not babying the side of your mouth for hours after your treatment due to it being numb
  • Is safer and more precise: laser dentistry enables Dr. Maxwell to be more precise in his cuts and harms less of the surrounding tissue, and it sterilizes as it treats, reducing the chance of post-treatment infection
