Melissas career in dentistry spans well over 25 years so far, and she never gets tired of seeing patients happy smiles once theyve completed their treatment. Originally from Munster, she attended the University of Southern Indiana for her college education.
Melissa has two sons who are both very devoted to baseball and one daughter who is a bookworm and currently attending dental school. In her spare time, she loves traveling with her family, seeing new places, and decorating her home for the holidays. Her favorite channel is HGTV the shows give her so many ideas! In the future, shes really looking forward to going skydiving with her daughter.
Skye has been a member of the Creating Smiles, PC team for over 25 years so far. She studied at Indiana University Northwest and is certified in both CPR and radiology. She really enjoys working closely with patients and helping them overcome any fears or anxieties they have through the power of sedation dentistry.
Originally from Hobart, Skye has one daughter in college who is studying elementary education and another daughter who is currently a senior in high school. Outside of the dental office, her top passions are reading and adopting senior animals.
A Chicago native, Saras career in oral healthcare covers a full decade so far. She attended Olympia College for her education and is trained in coronal polishing, dental sealants, radiology, and CPR. Her favorite part of this job is an easy answer being able to give patients their confident smiles back is so rewarding!
Megan is from Valparaiso, IN originally, and she studied dentistry at Indiana University Northwest. She is also trained in CPR and radiology. Today, what she loves most about her job is being able to help patients achieve such healthy smiles.
Outside of work, Megan loves spending time with her sisters (one of whom is her twin) and her three cats. Her biggest personal interests include basketball, softball, and watching movies. Heres an interesting fact about her: shes never cut her hair before!

Dr. Kapers has been practicing dentistry since 1993, and he never gets tired of helping patients change their lives through high-quality oral healthcare. He takes pride in spending a lot of one-on-one time with each patient, discussing their unique needs and creating one-of-a-kind treatment plans that exceed expectations.
While he was in elementary school, Dr. Kapers went to an explorer group and got to visit a dentists office. Seeing the dentist work and interact with the patients had such a strong impression on him that he was inspired to follow in the mans footsteps. He made the decision to become a dentist in the 4th grade--and all these years later, Dr. Kapers is still 100% confident he made the right choice!
He completed both his undergraduate and Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees at Indiana University. Today, he is very passionate about continuing education and takes an average of 100+ hours each year in advanced courses on new technologies. He has a particular interest in sedation dentistry (he is trained in DOCS sedation) and dental implants.
Dr. Kapers is married to his high school sweetheart, Melissa, who has worked here in his dental office ever since the doors were first opened. He also has a daughter who is following in his footsteps by attending dental school, and two sons. One plays professional baseball with the Texas Rangers organization, while the other plays division one baseball for Valparaiso University and hopes to reach the next level one day.

Dr. Kapers and his staff are truly amazing. My family is so lucky to have found him. As a busy family he always makes time for us. We have been going to him for 10+years. His assistant Skye is such a nice person Dr. Kapers bedside manner is outstanding. Kind, caring and compassionate. My boys walk in like they are family. Dr takes his time and never rushes. He explains everything and takes the time to get to know his patients. Melissa in the front is so kind and helpful. She is open and honest about treatment plans. There are not many offices that you walk in and are greeted by first names, and you feel completely comfortable with it. Melissa takes the time to talk to the kids about themselves. If you can make kids happy at the dentist, you must be doing something right. We appreciate an office that cares about our time. If we have a 2:00 appointment, we are seen relatively on time. Melissa has called and let us know we are a few minutes behind if you want to run to the store. They understand that our time is valuable too. I am so thankful to the creating smiles team. I actually enjoy going in as they feel like family friends after 10+ years. My recommendation to all is if you want to feel cared for there is nowhere else to go. Thank you Dr. Kapers, Melissa and Skye see you in a few months!!!!

Update: I never received a claim and they won't provide me with any of my records. If you Google the name of the dentist there are a lot of complaints about billing and having to pay out of pocket. I wish I had read those before, but I only read the reviews for Creating Smiles. I visited Creating Smiles for the first time last week. They were quick to get me scheduled and the office staff was very friendly. I appreciated that Dr. Kapers took the time to explain my x-rays and answered all my questions. Usually, my insurance company is always billed and then I pay the claim. I was shocked once I was told that I needed to pay around $360 for an x-ray and consultation before leaving. I need to have work done on one or two of my teeth. I was set on Dr. Kapers doing the work but now I'm not so sure after reading all of these reviews. I'm hoping that we will get it all sorted out professionally so that I can continue to see him.

Do not go to this dental practice. Dr. Scott Kapers is not trustworthy and the billing is handled by his wife Melissa Kapers who does her job in a disingenuous manner. My mother, father and I were repeatedly given verbal statements of costs and then receiving bills that would be hundreds / thousands more for our various implant procedures, crowns. They also offer lots of "insurance" and "evaluations" that have hidden costs and fees that they don't discuss openly and honestly. That alone should be enough to stay away from this practice. However, Kapers himself has terrible customer service and does not put customer needs first - including both the way he practices dentistry and the way that he treats his own customer's schedule. Since I had been at his practice since I was a little kid, I assumed that dentistry had to be an anxious and sometimes painful experience by nature. I now know that this isn't the case and that everything from long wait times in the dental chair to being unclear about costs and availability of services for pain management / anxiety are not the norm at other dental offices. Kapers just doesn't care to do these things. When I shared a concern about him repeatedly rescheduling my appointments at the last moment, he openly argued with me in his office. This was infuriating to me since I had been at long time customers since I was a child. He wasn't even willing to consider changing to better his longtime customers experience. I would never recommend anyone come to this office and I wish that I would have left sooner.

I sadly had moved to far away to see Dr Kaper and his team for a few years. I recently returned to the area and am able to see him again. The team and Dr Kaper are always friendly, take time to listen to concerns and explain what being done. I trust him and his staff enough to being my 3 yr old in for her first real dentist visit.

Upon learning that I need a dental implant, I obtained an estimated treatment plan from this provider (Dr. Scott Kapers). I also obtained an estimated plan for the same implant from another dental implant provider within the NWI region. In comparing the two plans, the estimated fees from Creating Smiles were significantly HIGHER on average than the fees from the other provider's plan for the EXACT same treatments. Although it cost me a little more to get an additional treatment plan worked up, it proved to be well worth it...for in the end I will save THOUSANDS of dollars on the total cost of my implant by using the other provider (even with a 10% "buy today" discount incentive if you commit to a treatment plan with Dr. Kapers at the time of your consult). In short...Dr. Kapers OVERCHARGES his patients. So, prior to moving forward on any treatment plan with him, shop around first. The probability is high that you will be able to save significantly on a professional dental implant if you do the research upfront.

Dr. Kapers and his Team are AMAZING! I had major work done on my teeth by Dr. Kapers and he did an EXCELLENT job!!! Everything went smoothly!!! I felt no pain during or after my surgery and I am extremely happy and pleased with Dr. Kapers! I know I picked the BEST dentist in the whole state of Indiana and Illinois!!! I was very impressed with Dr. Kapers!!! After my surgery Dr. Kapers and his Team called to check on me. If you are looking for an experienced and qualified dentist I highly recommend WONDERFUL and AMAZING Dr. Kapers and his Team!!!! Friendly, knowledge, and polite staff. A little pricey for me but the level of professionalism with a pain free experience justifies the cost. In and out in one day with a temporary crown which will be replaced with a permanent crown in an upcoming brief visit.

I am very happy with all of the Creating Smiles staff. I have been going here for years after several disappointing experiences with other dentists. Dr. Kapers is a really good dentist with a personality that makes you comfortable. I have recommended him to many people.
